From Brian's site: **Thu 04 Aug 04** US MILTON KEYNES CD AND DVD Hollywood Records have announced both a CD and DVD of the Milton Keynes Concert 1982 are provisionally expected to be released on November 2nd in the USA - the DVD "On Fire At The Bowl" and CD is titled "Command Performance Milton Keynes 1982". Not too shabby! :D |
Pim Derks 05.08.2004 17:40 |
OMG - they just took the bootleg-cd title? :D |

Good news for U.S. fans - I wonder if they'll release the live CD in the UK or Europe? |
Holly2003 05.08.2004 19:17 |
Not too hot on technology but...why would anyone want to buy the cd and the dvd? If you buy just the dvd, isn't it easy to burn the audio from it onto a cd-r? ...and if so how do you do it? :p |
goinback 05.08.2004 19:30 |
Well you have to have DVD ripping software, choose the audio tracks you want (and hope the software has an option to not spend time ripping the video as well), etc. Then you'd have to split the file in half so it would fit on 2 CDs. It's not too hard but it's a little time consuming so personally I'd just buy the CD instead. Sometimes I've noticed the CDs for concert videos are mixed slightly differently too.... |

link I have it on good authority that the above website gives advice and links on ripping audio and converting it for CD-R use. And again, based on this same good authority, I'm not totally convinced that the audio ripped from a DVD then burned on a CD-R sounds as good as the original CD might. To me, it sounds softer and not as sharp. |
Adam Baboolal 05.08.2004 21:09 |
Well, usually I just stick an optical cable from my dvd player to either minidisc digi-in or my computer digi-in and et voila, excellent quality copy ready for cd. Bit for bit, indeed! Then it's just a case of burning a copy to cd. Pretty simple. Peace, Adam. |

When I remastered an expanded karaoke set from the recent DVD via analog cables whilst having the player set to downmix to PCM first, I was shocked how good it sounded. I was playing around with trying to edit together an extended version of 'I Was Born to Love You' and I couldn't match up the sound between this and the 2001 remaster... this had a much fuller sound, more bass.. was clearly the higher quality of the two. I think perhaps the analog cables added a bit of warmth that was missing from the original. But back on topic, I'm not surprised with this announcement at all.. musictap.net broke the news a couple weeks ago but few believed them, thought they were just talking about the DVD. The only surprise is that they're changing the title to an even worse one. I thought Hollywood was fond of having matching companion pieces. I think it's natural for a CD version to be released, though I wouldn't buy it myself. Brian is very happy with the new audio mix and perhaps the stereo mix came out nice enough they wanted people to be able to have both. The music industry can't operate on the assumption that people will make their own CDs from DVDs. It's too bad we didn't get a stereo preview on GVH2. That clip of Staying Power is mono. |

Yay! The US is getting some ... this is happy. (Separation by sea is definitely not fun.) |

It may just be that I'm not as versed as others in doing it myself. If it takes more patience or knowledge to do it, then we may be better off buying the CD if we want it like that. Mainly what I've ripped was concert DVDs that I wanted on CD. I have yet to be impressed with the quality, but it may be my inner idiot shining through. DF: The only surprise is that they're changing the title to an even worse one. I thought Hollywood was fond of having matching companion pieces.Which makes me wonder if the CD version is different than the DVD. Wouldn't surprise me if the CD is a cut version of the DVD and only 1 disc. |

For everyone saying "Why not rip the audio from the DVD?" the answer is simple.....not everyone has the capability of doing so. |

Such cheesy titles. Command Performance... that's a winner! Yes anyway, did they give a release date yet? (And if this is a stupid question ignore it please.) :) HOLY SHIT... I'm such an IDIOT. I love it when I don't read things that are right in front of me. Hahahaha |
inu-liger 05.08.2004 23:33 |
The only problem with ripping audio tracks from DVD's that have CD compainion releases (such as Avril Lavigne's "My World live" or 46664), that DVD's often have Dolby Digital as audio track formats, whether in 2.0 stereo or 5.1 surround sound, so the sound isn't going to be the full range as it would be with CD's, due to the fact Dolby Digital is a lossy compression format, as well as MP2 and DTS. Wembley '86 by Queen is an exception; it uses lossless PCM on the DVD, and is uncut, which is nice because the CD release (and rerelease) was split into two discs, which isn't as nice because you'd have to switch between discs to listen to certain songs from the set, whereas the DVD release has it all on one disc, and with slightly better sound than the CD release (because the DVD is 48kHz, while CD is 44.1kHz). |

Btw. I'd prefer Command Performance over On Fire At The Bowl anyday! |

Ergh can't they just use Live At Milton Keynes '82 or something? Anything??? |

I wasn't really saying that audio from DVD in general can be as good as CD, I was just pointing out that in fact it could actually be better to record it manually rather than 'ripping' in some cases. I enjoy projects like that myself. To me, it wouldn't be as much fun just extracting the sound, though I'd love to give it a try if I ever get around to getting a DVD drive :-P |

Easy method, if you have a DVD-ROM. 1) Play DVD. 2) Run wave editing program. 3) Create very long empty file. 4) Press record. Nonetheless, I'll still buy both. |

Nonetheless, I'll still buy both.I used a program called DVD AUDIO RIPPER 1.0 for ripping the Montreal 81 DVD. It's an very easy to use program. (You can rip directly to MP3 or to WAV) Here can you download the program: link If you don't want to buy the software you can easily find a crack or serial... |
Brian_Mays_Wig 06.08.2004 12:32 |
Most 'fans' will just buy both. Its less hassle. |
Maz 06.08.2004 12:44 |
When Hollywood re-released Live at Wembley last summer following the DVD, they added a few bonus tracks as incentives. Now maybe that was done because Wembley had been released previously on CD, but in my opinion, I doubt that this MK CD will be the same as the DVD if only to get fans to buy both. |

"yay! more of the same old shite that everyones already seen! hurrah, I'll buy both!!!!!" Bollocks. A DVD of Milton Keynes is exactly the kind of release a lot of people have been asking for for ages. By all means, let's hope the next one is an earlier show. But you can't seriously complain about this, can you? |

Excerpt from the "Greatest Hits" reissue press release: "Queen on Fire at the Bowl," a live DVD & 2 Disc CD from the band's previously unreleased 1982 concert at U.K.'s Milton Keynes Bowl, will come out this November." So the CD will be the complete show and not a 1 CD edit. Cool. |

We will see what happends.. If it will be released in complete form, then that would be really fantastic! |

Stereo mix of CD is often different to stereo mix of DVD, that's why I prefer buying the CD first, because, it give me more ways to approach this concert. I prefer music without video, it tends to disturb my mind. And often, video (especially in the 80's) is more quickly dated than sound. |

Hollywood released Live at Wembley first, as a double set rather than releasing 'Live Magic' in the U.S., they wanted something better for us :-P Then we even got a remastered version years later. We got 'Live Magic' eventually anyway, but Hollywood cares so much about Queen fans and giving them more.. sometimes there's so much caring there, I feel like I can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in. So of course it's the complete show. |
Liquid Scream 10.08.2004 12:33 |
I find it strange they didn't release "Live Magic" in the States, but they did in Canada. I saw a copy of the album on vinyl the other day and checked and indeed it says distributed in Canada. |
