Hi, Just curious what mistakes Queen made live. I know a couple of examples like Roger forgetting the words to IILWMC and Brian's guitar cutting out during hammer to fall in 86. anymore? Marc |

there are lots, I think there is a section of a site dedicated to it |

I'm sure Guitar Hero can tell you several. Someone has a website about it, don't they? |

Mr Scully's Fantasic Site link Lists many of them :) |

I don't list every little one on my website, cuz that'd take forever! Here are a few key ones... I won't copy/paste the reviews here, so just check out these dates at the link below: Osaka 3-29-76 evening, re: BoRhap Hartford 8-20-80, re: NIH Stockholm 4-10-82, re: Save Me Also, there's Milton Keynes 6-5-82, as I've mentioned before, with Brian's patch cord falling out part way through his guitar solo. Something else worth mentioning is from Oakland 78... before Love Of My Life, Freddie says, "John and Roger have gone backstage for their blowjobs. We get ours after the show". I died laughing the first time I heard that. |

I think Queen's biggest mistake live was including Spike Edney. Just teasing! We've all grown to love ol' Spike. I do have one Game-era bootleg where Roger stumbles on the words to IILWMC and Freddie takes over. It was surprising, and fantastic, to hear.... Also, doesn't Freddie trip up a bit on the words to It's a Hard Life at Rio? |

During the gig in Paris 86 you here some mistakes... One vision has one, Magic too.. I cant remember the rest if there are any.... I really like this concert... I think they really enjoyed playing that evening... They're very alive... I also think Spikey used another synth (or sound) during I want to break free.... I might be wrong.... The audience is SUPERB and you hear that there are many people in good mood.... I think this recording is quite special... Other recordings doesnt really show this that good imo... You can hear the audience very good, and at the same time the recording is almost excellent.... :) Download it now !!! |

I think the best ones is Immigrant Song, where Freddie forgot words and maybe don't know them? :P |
inu-liger 04.08.2004 04:41 |
There is a mistake on one of the Milan '84 gigs, where Freddie repeats a line twice by mistake in Radio Ga Ga (I don't have the gig with me, so I can't remember what line it is) |
Sebastian 04.08.2004 07:40 |
Vocally there are out of pitch notes here and there, specially by Brian (even though he didn't sing so often as the others), and Rog in '39. Instrumentally I don't know of many mistakes although by one side I haven't heard many concerts and the ones I have, certailny not many times |

I'm sure that, by their own account, they rarely played a show without a mistake. |

Not exactly a mistake, but John used to enjoy flicking peanuts at Brian during his solos. YAY JOHN! ;) |

Freddie forgot the beginning to Tutti Frutti on the Friday night concert at Wembley. And he slapped Roger with a tambourine. |

In the '81 Argentine show Freddies mic goes out during one of the songs, but I can't remember which one. More like a technical difficulty than mistake on their part. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 04.08.2004 13:11 |
On the WWRY video during the fast version of WWRY right at the beginning, Freddie sings the same verse twice. |
Rick 04.08.2004 13:38 |
There's another mistake during the Tokiyo 1982 show. The mistake is in the guitarsolo in BohRap, just before the harmonics-part, it sounds very weird. |

Rick wrote: There's another mistake during the Tokiyo 1982 show. For all you musicians, is was the second Bb scale in the solo, and he broke a string as soon as he let go of the full bend on the 18th fret of the high E. I can't tell if that's the string that broke, because the camera focuses on his face, not his guitar. But considering he had trouble on the last notes of the solo, it was probably the B string that broke. As a guitarist, I know that's one's worst nightmare in a performance, to immediately have to find another string to play the correct notes on. Split second decisions, and the right note isn't always hit. |
high-flying-adored 04.08.2004 21:37 |
Ouch. That's really not fun, breaking a string ... |
iGSM 04.08.2004 21:47 |
Imagine breaking a piano. Ugh, Freddie would've been pissed. |

I know it was during Killer Queen, Brian was very pissed-off at the moment, they had to re-start the song. |

Brian's solo during Somebody To Love, in Sao paulo... Exellent version of the song- actually, could have been the best ever!!!- and than... Brian played sth horrible on his guitar... |

What's that 70s concert where there's a massive noise right during the middle of 'My Melancholy Blues'? Might have been Earls Court. And what the hell was it?! |
Fenderek 05.08.2004 08:48 |
They couldn't play MELANCHOLY BLUES at Earls Court as it was before they released NOTW... It was at Earl's Court, however, and you're talking about YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY... To answer your question: no idea...:P |

Also - I have no idea whether this is true, but I've seen it in multiple places - during a show on the Queen Lizzy tour, Brian got hit by a dozen eggs while wearing a white shirt, slipped, and fell on his ass. That's the worst thing about wearing white, you know there's a mess somewhere with your name on it. |
Sebastian 05.08.2004 13:16 |
I don't have the live videos anymore, so I should ask: did Brian keep using the RS in the second part of Bo Rhap at Tokyo or did he change it by the Birch copy? If he used the original RS, then the roadies are so efficient because they'd have only the opera section for putting the string and tuning it |
Rick 05.08.2004 13:17 |
"What's that 70s concert where there's a massive noise right during the middle of 'My Melancholy Blues'? Might have been Earls Court. And what the hell was it?!" Well, that was not a mistake. You can hear the same noise when he performed it at Hyde Park, probably it's normal for the song. To me it sounds like someone's hitting something, maybe it could be a drum-sound, I really don't know. |

I heard that an amp exploded ... or something |
goinback 05.08.2004 19:20 |
Which show was it where Freddie started playing Spread Your Wings strangely and then said "I don't remember the chords"? I actually liked the way it sounded...I wish they would have played more of the song that way :) |

"during a show on the Queen Lizzy tour, Brian got hit by a dozen eggs while wearing a white shirt, slipped, and fell on his ass. That's the worst thing about wearing white, you know there's a mess somewhere with your name on it" Ah the mythical "Queen-Lizzy" Tour. My nipples grow erect as I think about it :) I read somewhere that there was a bit of competition betwen the two bands as to who got the best crowd reaction. Also that Brian joined Lizzy onstage on at least one occasion. Anyone have any info on this - any bootlegs available? |

Goin Back - It was Osaka 1982. |
El Shileno 06.08.2004 03:53 |
During the Magic Tour, Freddie forgot some lyrics of Radio Ga Ga on their show in Vienna. On the same show you can hear the audience singing happy birthday to Brian before Love Of My Life, nice thing. |

So perhaps that's the answer - they purposely didn't show the Red Special copy, probably because they didn't want to have an official video of Brian playing another guitar. Surely by TYMD, his techie had fixed the string, and off he went into the riff. Holly2003 wrote: Ah the mythical "Queen-Lizzy" Tour. Oh yes, Brian's mistake during Somebody To Love in Sao Paulo in 1981 is truly fascinating ... And Fred's reaction to Brian's mistake at the beginning of Save Me (don't know from where and when)is also among my all time faves: "It didn't start off so fuckin' well" - great fun!!! |
earwig 06.08.2004 17:04 |
Remember Brian had a nightmare at the Brixton gig that was videoed: he has to change guitars in Resurrection (I think) and Last Horizon has a false start. Also at the tribute gig in '93 he breaks a string in, I think, Hammer to Fall leaving Toni Iommi to look even more shit scared!!! Haha!!! |
Sebastian 06.08.2004 17:33 |
I think the tribute is because the guitar wasn't on tune, not that he broke a string. During solo tours he swapped guitars because he used different tuning (drop D) in one of them, and standard in the other |
