70% Brian...interesting. (Regarding Mr Jingles' choice).
But I agree he probably was the most poetic lyricist of the band (well, it wasn't Roger was it?).
I personally rarely pay attention or give much credence to lyrics, as they're secondary to music.
But if I had to choose my top 10 Queen lyrics, I'd refuse and just say that perhaps my favourite might be something like Fairy Feller, because it has no pretensions but sounds interesting and generally cool.
Hmm..... maybe...
1.Keep Yourself Alive
2.Killer Queen
3.It's Late
4.Seven Sea's Of Rhye
5.Bohemian Rhapsody
6.Misfire
7.Somebody to Love
8.Tie Your Mother Down
9.Liar
10.Fat Bottomed Girls
but it changes daily because I find new songs I like. And lyrics.
Ok, I slightly revised my list:
1. March of the Black Queen
2. I'm Going Slightly Mad
3. Friends Will Be Friends
4. Bohemian Rhapsody
5. Don't Stop Me Now
6. The Miracle
7. Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
8. The Show Must Go On
9. Killer Queen
10. It's a Hard Life
My fav lyrics are
-It's a hard Life (note: part from Nijinsky's ballet)
("I don't want my freedom..there's no reason for living...with a broken heart") this sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear freddie sing it. Magic!
-Bohemian Rhap
-Innuendo
-These Are The Days of Our Lives (beautiful words)
-Killer Queen (very clever wording)
-There Must be More to Life than this (bet you forgot about that one)
-Who Wants to Live Forever?
-The Prophet's Song
-Tie Your Mother Down (Sheer Bloody Poetry!)
-Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy (Im gay ok, had to include this one)
When I first got the Greatest Hits collection, I literally listened to Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy for 2 hours straight. It was on repeat on my boom box at a really high volume.
No One But You (Only the Good Die Young) - Makes me cry everytime I hear it, especially Brian's last verse. So beautiful and so sad at the same time.
The March of the Black Queen - Sheer brilliance. I put this up with Bo Rhap.
You Take My Breath Away - Pure, simple, beautiful
You and I - Very touching song that I think is soft enough to be sweet but upbeat enough to give it a kick
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy - That's me!
Love of My Life - Like YTMBA it's pure and simple, yet beautiful
Innuendo - Another epic song that, lyrically, is complex but coherent at the same time, and it sends a good message.
TATDOOL - Self explanatory
TSMGO - Ditto
We Are the Champions - The best part about WATC lyrics is that you really don't know what he's singing about. Is it a gay pride song (which I read once and thought it made sense), is it celebrating Queen's popularity, or is it simply celebrating a victorious sports team??????
