Dear Queenzone.com (Richard?), Love the site. I visit and participate whenever I can. But it has become painfully obvious that the "levels" here on Queenzone are no longer serving the participants. "...Newbie, Rocker, Champion, Bohemian, Royalty, Deity", they were once useful, but you see, there are bigger, FAR more important problems at hand. At least according to some of the participants. You see, the (near-)Royalty and Deity participants have become increasingly convinced of the names of their statuses, and coincidentally grown more and more "unamused" with those in the "lower" levels. And while it would be ideal to offer a solution in the interests of ALL levels of participants, I cannot. I'll now attempt to offer the RIGHT solution. One solution might be to rename the levels, perhaps, starting with "Royalty", which really should be "Desperate to Belong, Condescending, and Quite Bitter", and "Deities" which really ought be named "Hunt Me Down and Put Bullets in My Skull, 'cuz I Hate Life". But I can't condone violence, so that's clearly not a viable solution. Therefore, I recall the purpose of the site: presentation and discussion of Queen-related news, articles, opinions, images, and performances and select other activities including the interpersonal interaction between fans. Newbies, Rockers, Champions, Bohemians, they all seem to start and participate in threads that follow the purpose of this Queen-related site, however "tired" the topic. But they're quite despised for it. By contrast, (near-)Royalty and Deities rejoice in the petty belittling of the other levels and do not regularly contribute positive content in the spirit of the site. Obviously, "Royalty" and "Deities" are FAR more important, so, how can we put these veteran posters at ease? Quite simple, really. Off with their heads! My proposal: Let Queenzone be the first site to "expire" participants as soon as they reach 1,000 posts. It's fairly obvious to me that any board called "Queenzone" ought to serve the participants who value the Queen-related content most. Putting the frustrated armchair critics out to pasture by 1,000 posts might actually INCENT them to THINK about what they type (as they progress toward 1,000 posts) so as to not clutter the site with endless posts that only server to vent petty gripes. At very least, a "review" of each member's merit after 1,000 posts could help determine their worthiness for continuance. I don't think it would be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. But the chaff has been begging, of late, to be shown its worth. Let's do! Sincerely, Don |

Very clever. I have to agree with you. I think having this 'award titles' for each level of participation is making the older participants suddenly think they are better and can boss the newbies around. I say out with the system- we dont need it. just the dates we joined maybe. we dont need to be queenonline. |
Fenderek 29.07.2004 10:09 |
C'mon- do you think anyone looks at this Royalty/Champion/whatever things...? The older members are pissed off at stupid questions and stupid threads, not the fact that someone with "low rank" is asking any question... Geeee- I didn't even know what the heck this stuff mean... |

We have been here longer. So the title is worthwhile. It's how you tell the new people from the older ones. If you don't like how the board is run, then don't show up. Or post more often. Not with stupid ass questions, just with your opinions on things if you feel like it. And if people have disscusions, some get heated and the more intelligent usually win out in the end. Or they just die because people just get sick of it. Some of the people here just post nonsence for the sake of posting. Some post because they like the friends they have made, and it's a nice way to communicate. Some post because they have nothing better to do (hence the stupid questions) and that gets under people's skin from time to time. It just sounds to me like you are a whiner, and want to reach the status of other posters, but don't want to take the time to do it. The more you post, the more people will get to know you and your personallity. So just hang around for a while. If you don't like it, don't. I don't think many will shed any tears. |

OUCH. jesus guys, chill! Fine, shocking, two of the older posters flame as per usual. Why not lookat it from others pov? Not all new people post useless topics but because some do, they all get tared with the same brush. Lets be frieeeeeeends! |

"Not all new people post useless topics but because some do, they all get tared with the same brush. Lets be frieeeeeeends!" I don't think all new members are tared with the same brush, hence my reply... |

See, im my last topic, I was just pointing out the amount of crap that is getting posted on here just lately, and I get hammered by certain people. Im not having a go at all newbies at all, just certain ones posting rubbish. This board used to be fantastic, now there is a certain amount of shit flying about and i have my suspisions at it being just one person under several different id's. Im not whinging (honest, ive probably read too much soap box), and I dont hold a grudge against newbies. I just cant stand pathetic threads. I do not agree with the open letter at all and just because ive been on here for a couple of years, I dont think im better than anybody else! |

I haven't yet been here for a couple of years and I DO think myself better than everyone else. I don't even pretend to know or own half the stuff that some people do on this site. However I do not embarrass myself by asking stupid questions that could be found by looking at other sources quite easily. You could say 'for goodness sake Archie just don't respond' but I feel it is my duty to point out the daft, or else how will they ever learn. Forget the Glorious 12th. From now on its open season on Queenzone numpties! And I've got my sights on you, baby! |

Its up to all of us to make this place the place we want it to be. The only way we can do that is by adding posts that are interesting to most of us. New people DONT know what others like on here. Why dont we go post some good stuff and show them? Im only trying to bring the peace back, i dont like saying this stuff but this board is getting segregated and that leads to trouble... |

Some valid points here but let's remember as far as the rankings go: They have nothing to do with who has been a fan the longest or who knows the most about Queen. You could have a "newbie" to the site who knows just about all there is to know about Queen , or someone who hits there 99th 100th and 101st posts instantly and brags about it. The rankings are useless as far as I am concerned....except they do show who has posted the most often and I suppose with some senoirity comes a little respect.... |

I'm only trying to bring the peace back, I don't like saying this stuff but this board is getting segregated and that leads to trouble...Yes, you've got it - that's my message, spot on. Nice way of rewording, Oppositionist. My proposal is bordering on ridiculous. And quite deliberately so. But in it, I'm trying to illustrate that just because someone has reached "Deity" status doesn't mean any of their posts were relevant to the board, nor friendly, nor interesting. In many notable cases, they were (hence the "review" suggestion). But we see far too many where they're not. And it's the sheer volume of unwarranted, glib, marginally hostile comments that needs to be stopped (because of the segregation Oppositionist speaks of). My letter is what I feel is an equal and opposite reaction to the open hostility that has been amply demonstrated. There have been threads asking accomplished QZ posters to "lay off" the innocent newbies, and those have gone over "like a lead Zeppelin". I was just offering a scenario that would incent these posters to bring some real content to their responses. If I think I have a limited number of posts to use, I'll use them sparingly, when I'm truly engaged by the topic, not just by the naivete of the newbie. The equally acceptable choice is to simply realize that they're disinterested and (as Archie/Tiffany said) just leave the topic alone! But being an UNACCOUNTABLE INTERNET BULLY is just so very tempting to some, isn't it? Be cool - just stop. And (I had to giggle at this one...) no, not all of us are seeking a sense of self worth from our post tallies... they're quite meaningless, as I've indicated... other than alerting the rest of us to those who are most likely to cop an attitude. |

you do realize it is just a bit of fun? |
the oppositionist 30.07.2004 14:59 |
Yes richard, but the number of posts on here 'newbie' related is getting to be a little worrying. its clear that there is a feeling of segregation here because people are picking sides. Im only mentioning it because people are emailing me and saying they are new and they are scared to say something wrong in case its been said before or somebody will flame it. I think thats a bit sad for what is basically a fan club. :( |

So suddenly newbies are posting shite BECAUSE some people have a different title (not that anyone takes much notice of it). Brilliant. All these twelve year old intellectual pygmies are my fault. That'll teach you. See you when I get back. |
