Hey, I was wondering: I know some of yas have heard good things about the 2001 USA/Canada re-release DVD of the Queen concert film "We Will Rock You", but also that some of yas find the DVD to be expensive (from what I've heard). What I was wondering was, if I offered to burn copies of this DVD really cheap, would some of you buy a copy of WWRY off of me? (I can make both NTSC and PAL versions of the DVD as well, if that adds any interest) |
Maz 26.07.2004 11:05 |
Now you are advertising your pirating of Queen product on QZ? |
John S Stuart 26.07.2004 11:10 |
NOT official product - please. Anyone who wants the Canadian DVD should purchase the disc. There are many universal DVD stores or try link if your are looking for a Canadian specific store. I think you miss the point of DVD sharing Dark. The thing about "Freddie's Millions", "Freddie's Loves", "TFI Friday" or "This Morning" interviews, is that they were freely broadcast - and that they are NOT commercially available. It is perfectly reasonable to record a show (afterall that is why VHS was invented) for personal home use, and I dare say most authorites would turn a blind eye to swapping off-air recordings for personal use also, however, turning those off-air recordings into a commercial venture, and even worse - re-recording official product is illegal, and it can lead you into very serious problems. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 26.07.2004 11:38 |
Not interested. |
Adam Baboolal 26.07.2004 11:44 |
Jeez, get a clue, Dark. £20 or $47 canadian, doesn't seem expensive. And of course, there's always Ebay. Peace, Adam. |

inu-liger 26.07.2004 12:19 |
Which idea? And why? |
Pim Derks 26.07.2004 12:24 |
I'd be interested Dark. Any chance you could also copy the GVH dvd's? |
agneepath! 11994 26.07.2004 12:30 |
well the idea to copy something which is easily available. money isn't the issue here... if everyone bought DVDR's would Queen Productions bother to release anything new ever again? (and i realise WWRY wasn't released by QP) if you offered to sell DVDs containing interviews, clips, unreleased concert footage - that in my eyes would not be a problem. In fact i would welcome it. |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 12:48 |
"I'd be interested Dark. Any chance you could also copy the GVH dvd's?" Here comes a long one... I can, possibly. The only problem is that, if memory serves me correct, the main GVH DVD discs are dual-layered, and I only have a single-layer DVD burner for the moment (I do plan on getting a Sony DRU-700A Dual Layer burner in the future, but I know that won't be for several months for sure), so I may have to make omissions (eg. only use the PCM audio tracks, which save a lot of space and sacrifice the need to re-encode the video to make it fit), or split up the videos between discs. Also, I don't as of yet have a DVD encoder on my PC that allows DTS tracks to be input, officially. I did get some software downloaded to CD with some cracks as well, but I won't be back home from my vacation until August 23rd next month, so I won't know for sure if, if you do require the DTS tracks intact, that if I will be able to burn DVD's with DTS tracks. That aside, what format do you need the DVD's to be in? NTSC or PAL? The only DVD I have both NTSC and PAL copies of is the GVH2 DVD - anything else, I will have to re-encode with my video software if I have to, if you need PAL DVD's, which personally I don't care either way, even though re-encoding takes a very long time :P. |
Pim Derks 26.07.2004 12:53 |
I'd need PAL copies - as I'm in Europe my player won't support NTSC I think. |

"if you offered to sell DVDs containing interviews, clips, unreleased concert footage - that in my eyes would not be a problem. In fact i would welcome it." I wouldn't have a problem with that either myself. But see, the thing is Mr. Stuart wishes to send DVD-R masters of the above mentioned for me and other Queenzoners with DVD-burners to copy and distribute freely to other Queenzoners and non-Queenzoners (aka QOL'ers or other Queen fans), and I respect him for freely giving out all these rare materials, which few people have in the condition he apparently has them in, and I don't mind sharing DVD's with others for free. The only issue is, I am not a tree made out of money. I have to find some way to buy DVD-R media, postage, and CD-sized envelopes in order to distribute the DVD's. I cannot afford anything really, at the moment, because I don't have a job, and my Mickey-D's money is all gone now (spent on LaserDiscs, CDs & records, and my current vacation). I only even have just a few blank DVD-R discs left. I'm only lucky I saved so many empty CD jewel cases even! If I had a job, which won't happen until sometime after I get back home, I would gladly pay all the costs myself! The only problem, again, is I don't have a job, so I have no money to share DVD's. Plain and simple. Even John can understand that. That's one reason I'm offering to make people DVD-R's of some of my DVD's cheap (not just Queen DVD's), so that I can raise money to help pay for the shipping costs until I can get a job, in which then I will pay all the costs myself.....or unless someone here will lend me a small but good amount of money (which I doubt personally), but I don't see that happening. |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 13:06 |
"I'd need PAL copies - as I'm in Europe my player won't support NTSC I think." All right, that's just whar I needed to know. So, let me get this straight: Do you want both GVH DVD's (1&2) AND the WWRY DVDs burnt, once they've been converted? Also, in case I can't use DTS tracks, you wouldn't mind just having PCM tracks as audio tracks, would you? (I could always find some way of converting the DTS tracks to Dolby Digital 5.1, providing I get the help I need with an issue relating to that sort of conversion - my software right now only allows PCM, MP2, and AC3 (DD), but if my new software permits DTS, then it won't be much of a problem) Also, what country do you live in? I need to know for shipping rate purposes, so I can come up with an estimate. |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 13:08 |
Oh hey Pim, I don't know what Queen DVD's you may also have, but just in case, I thought I'd pass down my list of my Queen DVD collection as well, in case there's some other DVD's you want: Freddie Mercury Tribute Live At Wembley Stadium The Freddie Mercury Video Collection ANATO / The Game (DVD-Audio discs) |

I don't know Canadian laws, but just the offer might be enough to get an unfriendly knock at your door and arrest, seizure of property, etc. I bought the WWRY disc for $10 at a used record shop (like new, not a mark on it) and I believe Best Buy has it for $22 standard and $25 DTS. Not unreasonable at all. |

John S Stuart 26.07.2004 14:28 |
This is the reason I have not replied to your mails. What I proposed was that I would share some off-air brodcasts with other minded Zoners. For example, someone from Canada may well like a copy of "Freddie's Millions" for their own PERSONAL use. I thought by doing this it would cut off a lot e-bay bootleggers and leeches, but, I would never would agree or tolerate to the pirating of a legitimate product. Sorry, but conversation closed. |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 16:14 |

"I never said I would sell your material, John" Exactly. You never said you wouldn't sell it either. I wouldn't be surprised if we'd see some fellow named after some Manga-character is offering them up for sale on eBay and then starts whining about people not sending money. |

I have an idea. Why don't you E-Mail Brian and ask him if he'd like to buy copies of your DVDs. How about a special offer - buy 2 DVDs and get the Queen MIDI album half price. And you can put leaflets about your Queen convention in the DVD cases, like Queen do with We Will Rock You. |
Penis - Vagina 26.07.2004 16:46 |

"get the Queen MIDI album half price" the MIDI 5.1 album - not just ordinary MIDI! |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 16:54 |
"Is that why you said you wanted Queen laserdiscs to make DVD copies to sell there yourself?" I don't count as an eBay bootlegger, because I can't sell on eBay. I'm a Queenzoner bootlegger ;-) JK. Nah, I don't think I said I was going to sell QUEEN LaserDiscs, I think I was referring to the other series of LD's that I'm collecting (namely, Urusei Yatsura) when I mentioned something about making and selling copies. Meh, my posts about that aren't even up anymore, so I don't know. :P |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 16:58 |
Speaking of LD's......I'm getting impatient waiting until when I go home, because I want to watch my new Urusei Yatsura movie LD's very badly, partly because I'm bored at night!!! (All I'm doing is watching DVD's and listening to my MP3 DVD's on the TV in my room, and even then that sucks because the VCR that the DVD player is connected to only has 1 RCA audio plug input, so that means I can't listen to DVD's in stereo - I can only plug in either the left or right channel of the DVD player audio outputs because of the VCR, which pisses me off a great deal.) |
agneepath! 11994 26.07.2004 16:58 |
Pim, I told you it was painful to read this discussion. |
Penis - Vagina 26.07.2004 17:10 |
Oh, allow me to refresh your memory. We were talking specifically about Queen laserdiscs.. you asked me if I still had mine, remember? I told you to be patient and wait for them to turn up on DVD or get them on DVD-R at Ebay and you said that's why you were interested in the first place.. you wanted to make and sell DVD-Rs from the laserdiscs. |
inu-liger 26.07.2004 17:41 |
I do remember saying that I WANTED to make DVD's out of them, but I don't remember clearly saying that I would SELL DVD's. I'm not saying that I didn't say it at all, as it could be possible, but I've been very busy with personal things at home, seeing as my sisters just arrived this past Saturday from home to join me during the rest of my vacation, which lasts until Aug. 23rd, so my memory's a little hazy. |

OK, so your defence is now "1. Brian doesn't like it, so it's ok to breach the copyright of Pioneer, 2. Other people do it" 1. Brian probably isn't keen on a number of artists, but I guarantee their record companies wouldn't hesitate to take McDonald's money back off you... 2. "Your honour, although the defendant Mr Guru clearly committed this crime, the defence asks that he be set free until such time as all other crimes of this nature have also been solved" |
Maz 26.07.2004 19:20 |
Trancer does not come on a public notice board and offer to pirate Queen product for a small fee. Besides, you assume that everybody here likes what Trancer does in the first place. To me, he's got a monopoly on the fans who have yet to learn how to trade for themselves. Read his feedback on ebay, and you'll see how many users are irritated with receiving DVD-Rs or CD-Rs of stuff they thought was legit. |

My copy of Earls Court 77 is shitty but at least Budapest and The Magic Years are perfect. He also sent me that documentary on FM that came with the solo set for free. WWRY is like $15-$19 at the store. By the time you pay for two DVD-Rs and pay for shipping, it's about $10 and it's not the same quality and the packaging isn't the same, and the whole process is a pain anyway. Why not just buy it in a store for $5 more?!? |
Adam Baboolal 27.07.2004 10:15 |
Well, Barry you're mostly right. But the dual layer media has just begun to be sold and price is not because of pirates. That's just what happens. Look at the prices of current dvd-r etc. compared to prices a year ago. Most people who bought a dual-layer burner haven't been able to get much, if any, media to burn onto! Only the usual single layer. And even then the real problem with these early burners and 8.5GB media is compatibility. Sure, there's almost twice the space. But if it doesn't work in most dvd players/computers, what's the point? I've been reading about the current hardware/media and it's not good. When there are compatibility issues with computer dvd drives not being able to read the current media, you know something needs more time to develop. Save your money and at least wait for the next generation. And the current dual layer media only burns at a max of 2.4x! That's one hour for a full disc burn. Peace, Adam. |

"This guy is selling DVD's sourced from LaserDiscs" Let me get this right: 1) Dark posts here that he wants to sell copies of officially released material 2) Dark gets all kinds of negative replies (as usual) 3) Dark thinks to himself "hmm, I'll just go with them - hope they won't notice and think I'm one of them" 4) I post this and burn Dark down, once more. 5) I'm still in Darks "Favourite Queenzoners" list. |

Hmmmm ... a very curious offer is followed by some dead on exceptional responses. As a long time trader of live material and one who respects the official releases of the artists I am refreshed to see that the morals among the Queen Zoners are high. Bands that allow or turn a blind eye to trading will no longer do so if we pass around the stuff they want to make money from. |
