link CDJAPAN'S NEW SERVICES Upgraded Shipping Charge Starting at 10am on June 28, 2004 (Japan Standard Time), we will lower our shipping charge. It will also be simplified, and handling fee will be included. More Shipping Methods Starting at 10am on June 28, 2004 (Japan Standard Time), more shipping methods will be available. Economy Air (SAL) This is the shipping method for customers who prefer cheaper shipping method. Parcels sent by Economy Air (SAL) are loaded on airplanes when there is an open space. This makes lower shipping charge possible, but it takes extra time for delivery. -Usually delivered in 1-3 weeks after the order is shipped. *May take up to 12 weeks. -We will not register SAL parcels, and it will not require signature of recipient upon delivery. If you would like to ensure that your package is to be delivered accurately and safely, we recommend Registered Air Mail. For more reliable delivery, we recommend EMS. Air Mail (Non-registered) Previously, we registered all Air Mails to ensure accurate delivery of the parcels by requiring signature of the recipient at the time of delivery. However, this added an extra cost. We will have Air Mail (Non-registered) for customers who prefer cheaper shipping method, while preferring to have their orders delivered more rapidly than by Economy Air (SAL). -Usually delivered in 4-12 days after the order is shipped. *May take up to 8 weeks. -Air Mail will not require signature of recipient upon delivery. If you would like to ensure that your package is to be delivered accurately and safely, we recommend Registered Air Mail. For more reliable delivery, we recommend EMS. |

Good to see someone else likes that website too -- very good prices and lots of Queen stuff to be had! I especially like the "first editions" of the DVDs. The Japanese are good at their marketing ploys, and it's great to have the chance to actually get a chance to own them. My Jewels DVD is a first edition, and the upcoming Karaoke Hits (release date 20 July) will rival the laserdisc; can't wait for the bonus tracks!! |
Whatinthewhatthe? 12.07.2004 17:41 |
BTW, EMS is Global Priority and quite expensive -- I found that out the hard way!! |
inu-liger 12.07.2004 18:02 |
I know what you mean. Last year I bought 2 CD's (Pokemon "Polka O Dolka", Asuca Hayashi "Chiisaki Mono") and a DVD (Asuca Hayashi, "Chiisaki Mono" + bonus 1-track CD) from CDJapan, and it ended up costing me $60-$70 CDN altogether, because I had to send cash registered, the US$ was expensive then, and I ended up paying $8 CDN in custom duties and service charges. Now I wish I hadn't bought it last year, but how was I to know a year from now that they would have had cheaper shipping? Of course, I can bet you that some people like Rien are gonna be pissed about this news now, however good it may be for current and future customers. |

YIKE!!! That's expensive!!! Registered airmail from Japan to the US (for the upcoming Karaoke Greatest Hits) is $4.49 US dollars because it's a 2-DVD set. The previous DVD (Final Live) cost only $3.50 US dollars for shipping. Here it is if you'd like to have a look! link Very clear, gorgeous and the sound is excellent! |
inu-liger 12.07.2004 18:19 |
I just actually had a look. But thanks for the link, Lisa. I'm not interested in most DVD's that don't have an official Queen connection; "We Will Rock You" 2001 is an exception. But holy man are the CD's and DVD's on that site ever expensive compared to the $16.99 CDN CD's back here at home ($29.99 CDN for DVD's on average). Could be worse though. On CDJapan the Pokemon Jirachi movie DVD costs $36.95 US; on JPopHelp, that same DVD costs $47.01 US!! (*But then, that last site is based in North America, so...) |

Yeah I've found that cdjapan has better shipping and slightly better pricing than HMV. For example, the EMS shipping for my new karaoke DVD which releases on the 14th was only $17 and I usually pay practically the full cost of a 4th card sleeve when I order three of those from HMV. Still a bit pricey for a single disc though. Total of about $59. For awhile they had it listed as a double, which would have meant better quality. And I wish they shipped immediately rather than "2-5 days after release". HMV definitely beats them on speed. |

Ah yes, words that I wrote a LONG TIME AGO... :P |
Whatinthewhatthe? 12.07.2004 20:26 |
That's an old subject...let's move on to what's at hand here! What are Canadian-to-American dollars conversion rates? US dollars to Pounds Sterling is $1.85 to one British pound, which HURTS when you win an auction based in the UK! (ouch my wallet) |
inu-liger 12.07.2004 20:41 |
link $1 CDN = $0.7576 US = 0.4073 British pounds $1 US = $1.32 CDN So if I paid $67 CDN for the Japanese CD's last year, that would come to $50.77 US, or 27.29 British pounds And the British pound is worth $2.4552 CDN - "Ouch my wallet!" indeed - or "Ouch! Our wallets!" |
Whatinthewhatthe? 12.07.2004 21:01 |
OMG!!! Does it fluctuate much? (I see how very little the US dollar is worth -- YIKE!!) I buy a lot from overseas, especially the UK. I'm amazed it costs less to ship from there to the US, but shipping from the US to UK and Canada costs a lot more! I wish someone could create a global postal system where the price was the same everywhere, regardless of exchage rates. One flat fee for everyone -- that would solve a lot of problems! |
inu-liger 12.07.2004 21:09 |
Under capitalism, it's not possible. And Canada apparently is one of the cheaper or cheapest countries in the world when it comes to postage rates. To send a letter to the US would cost us $0.80 CDN at the least, and international letters would cost $1.40 CDN at least. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 12.07.2004 22:10 |
That's really sad -- but if it happens in our lifetime, it would be a miracle, and less headache to people in the postal profession! |

Wooohoo! My karaoke DVD has entered the shipping process! |

I missed 'em cause I didn't have the money in time... I bought the Made In Heaven sunrise mini-LP...these releases are highly reccomended...dammit i wish I had the cash to buy them ALL! |
Penis - Vagina 13.07.2004 01:05 |
There's been nothing special added to any Queen first pressing from there. That's just something cdjapan mentions as an incentive to pre-order stuff, not necessarily Queen. And you made an excellent choice to start your card sleeves off :) MIH is a gatefold and has poster inserts (the same b&w pics that were in the CD booklet). It's beautiful. |
VGB 13.07.2004 01:09 |
yeah I know I was like "holy crap they even included the posters!" excellent indeed |
Whatinthewhatthe? 13.07.2004 10:46 |
"and lisa, what were the bonus features for the first editions? I missed 'em cause I didn't have the money in time...: (If you call this a bonus): on Jewels, the Slightly Mad video. The best version I've seen to date. Final Live: none (odd!) Karaoke Hits: four extras: TATDOOL, Heaven For Everyone, A Winter's Tale and I Was Born To Love You 2004. Low stock on this one!! Also of interest (I think Brian May made an appearance??): Red Hot Chili Peppers: LIVE IN HYDE PARK Red Hot Chili Peppers' first official live album. Recorded live on June 19, 20, & 25, 2004. Released exclusively in Europe and Japan. (This is a CD, BTW) Angel, good on you for ordering the Karaoke Hits!! |
inu-liger 13.07.2004 12:39 |
One of these days, when I get a new job, I will go and buy some of the cardboard CD re-releases. |
Penis - Vagina 13.07.2004 14:34 |
Just to clarify, though you annoy the hell out of me, the bonuses you mentioned are not exclusive to the first editions. They are part of the discs anyway. And Karaoke isn't releasing on the 20th.. it comes out the 14th (which is today in Japan). |

Usually, DVD's are the same either way, they just like to make sales with special limited editions, which usually come with something special (not necessarily a feature on the DVD(s) itself), or they just like to make a limited edition because people will know that it will be a while before a regular (and cheaper?) edition comes out. Even then, the regular editions are only produced up to a certain amount, and usually after 3 years begin to diminish in quantity because production has stopped some time prior to that...blah I could be wrong :P And DF's right about the release date. CDJapan lists it as coming out today. |

Aiyiyi. Sorry if I'm annoying you, AOTM, but this is what I really meant (courtesy of CD Japan): First Pressing Editions Bonus extras are sometimes included with the first press (initial press) editions. Whenever the details for the bonus extra is available, it is indicated in the product details. Usually, first presses are limited in quantity. After they are sold out, only the later regular pressing without bonus extras are available for ordering. They are occasionally sold out in the pre-ordering stage. Whenever the first press is available for ordering, "First Press Available" button is indicated in the product details. However, if your payment method is either International Postal Money Order, or Cash Sent via Registered Mail, it is possible for the first press edition to be no longer available by the time your order is processed. For International Postal Money Order, or Cash sent via Registered Air Mail, we do not process the order until the payment has arrived. Similarly, we do not process credit card orders until we have obtained authorization from credit card company. All of mine are these -- and I hope this clarifies the difference between a "bonus track" and "first pressing edition". My bad -- sorry! |
Adam Baboolal 14.07.2004 14:45 |
Yeah, I bought Tori Amos' Scarlet's Walk album and it was a limited edition. Basically came in a nice cardboard pack with some freebies, including a poster, toys! and a dvd. However, once it was gone, it became a basic cd in a cardboard case. Same case as before, mind. It's quite a common thing to see these days. Peace, Adam. |
Wilki Amieva 15.07.2004 10:28 |
The statement of CD Japan is right. However, it USALLY means that you get some kind of promotional stuff (e.g: a poster, a cardboard slipcase, an extra obi strip, etc.) with the first pressings - not bonus tracks! Bonus tracks are not uncommon in Japan, as to promote sales of the local releases instead of the cheaper imports (that is as weird as true: Japan issues are expensive even for the Japanese!) I want to make clear that the bonus tracks on the new DVDs and CDs will stay on the subsequent pressings (if any). By the way, some of the first pressings of the new LP-style cardboards have extra obis imitating the original Japanese LP ones. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 15.07.2004 22:16 |
A friend of mine got the Aerosmith ones and they're included! (Nice touch!) |
Wilki Amieva 16.07.2004 13:06 |
They are included also on most of QUEEN new ones! |

Hi Gang, Have any of you got the Japanese reissues from play.com? Are they OK? Are they the full deal with the harlequin OBIs etc? Thx, The Voice. |
