I've been a Queen fan for quite some time, and was always confused about one specific thing...
WHY THE HELL DID FREDDIE ALWAYS HAVE A METAL ROD ATTACHED TO HIS MIC???
If I remember correctly, at an early Queen show while Freddie was performing the top part of the microphone stand broke off from the bottom part and Freddie just performed the rest of the show that way. After that show, he just decided to have half of the stand attached to his mic as sort of a trademark thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it got started...
Wow...I didn't know that, but that's interesting. It's neat to see how such common trademarks started so mundanely (sp?) Thank you for putting my mind at ease.
It's what Rainmaker said...only a bit different.
When Freddie was in a band called 'Wreckage' (His band in de late 60's) the stand of his microphone broke, and they didn't have roadies to put it back. So he twirled around with it, and the audience liked it. So he kept on doing it ever since
When I was little I always thought it looked like he was waving it around like a magic wand...kind of like a magician or something. Like at the end of "Let Me Entertain You" he waves it in the air on the last note before the stage goes black....
Ah, well that's ok! I just don't like it when people jump on others for copying little things that Fred or the band used to do.
I'll never forget that topic where someone posted a pic of Robbie's arm in the air and people were furious that he was copying Freddie! Thankfully, someone was sane enough to post a picture of a footballer doing the same thing and mocked the idea!
Peace,
Adam.

Why does FriedChicken only get 5 points. Wreckage was correct, after all.
Don't forget that the singer for Poison used a half mic stand in their first vid.
"Talk Dirty to Me" I hated that at the time. Talk about showing my age!
I'm sure Freddie wasn't the first one who used a half mic stand, and i'm sure he wasn't the first one who raised his fist.
Although most Stepfords would like to believe that
Are you sure it wasn't "Sour Milk Sea"?
Whichever band Freddie was in at the time I seem to remember him being asked about it on the Radio at the time of the Hoople tour and for some reason I have it in my head that he said it was a gig in Bolton. What I do remember though was that it wasn't his mike that started it off. He was getting no sound out of the mike he was using so had to use the one the guitarist was using. He couldnt get it off the stand so he could strut about so unscrewed it at the join and used it like that. I bet he had been rehearsing in front of a mirror with a ruler for ages (Haven't we all been there?) anyway so felt more comfortable with something a bit longer!!!

Hmm...never heard that one. I've only ever read one story. Where he was dragging this crappy mic stand across the stage and it eventually broke away. And the rest is history.
Peace,
Adam.
