What do you think of the musical, "Tommy"?
I love it, I think it is The Who's best work.
Then later I found out that, "Tommy" was part of Freddie's album collection.
I have not had the privilege of seeing the musical though I have heard the soundtrack. The original album by The Who was one of the best pieces of music ever. Apparently I was singing the lyrics to Tommy before I could talk. An incredible album.
I loved the Who's next rock opera "Quadrophenia" much better. It's about a teenage boy who can't figure out why his relationships don't work, and I always thought it had elements of Pete Townshend struggling with his bisexuality in it. It sure spoke to me as a gay teenager.
And I liked the version of Tommy on the Who's 1989 live album "Join Together" a little better than the original IMHO, because it's got a full brass section. You might want to listen to that ;)
Okay I know I'm going to get all kinds of flack for this post probably hehe :)
I've heard that live album and have a video of the show from the same year. It is a testament to that great album that the music can get over in so mant different ways. I'm partial to the original version for nostalgia reasons.
