For those that have the Queen albums on vinyl: presented in the twelve-inch format, not in the disappointing five-inch CD format, which Queen album cover is your personal favourite? (For those who are too young to remember, the vinyl album covers were a way for groups/solo artists/bands to show some impressive artwork for their efforts on a piece of twelve-inch vinyl.) Queen released some striking covers in their career, and the solo efforts had some as well. So...what is yours? |

Made In Heaven. Beautiful photography. :) |
Whatinthewhatthe? 03.07.2004 10:14 |
For photo composition, mine is The Works. Even the individual photos on the back cover are striking! (George Murrell was one of my favourite photographers next to Ansel Adams.) For sheer beauty: Made In Heaven...always! |

I agree about The Works. Looks damn good. The artwork covers are excellent too though. News of the World is certainly one of a kind and Innuendo is superb. I'd say 'The Works' for live-action and 'News of the World' for artsy. Queen II is great, but tired and often printed poorly, showing the edge around their heads. |

I love the simplicity of ANATO and ADATR. And Sheer Heart Attack, for other reasons. |

ANATO and ADATR. Plus Innuendo. Like when all the single covers have similar artwork as the album so they can be recognised. I love all that crap. |

Now you see how they were trying to appease their old fans! A cool album cover is Jazz. Very aesthetically pleasing. |

RMF, you're RIGHT! :-) I loved the early, posed photos (especially the black and white shots). They were so...well, classy! Freddie ALWAYS looked like he was posing, even if someone caught him off-guard. Even in motion he was posing! Breathing, he was posing! And especially for the solo albums. Yowsa!! |

FriedChicken wrote: GH3Very striking, and the packaging was innovative -- the clear Mylar sleeve with Brian, Roger and John and the album itself -- that great picture of Freddie. The CD version does not do the artwork justice!! (Note: it's best to store this one in a plastic outer sleeve. If the images of the three guys rub on another album, they tend to wear off -- a friend of mine found that out the hard way!) |

Well, since I've never actually seen a copy of Innuendo on vinyl, I won't name it, even though it's my fave artwork & my fave CD. I really like GH3, too, with the translucent plastic sleeve & all... really slick. I think A Night At The Opera was really wonderfully put together - the lyrics & all - and I've spent a lot of time studying Freddie's crest & the coloring. I love the pink-fading-into-blue in the fairy wings... gorgeous, and not an easy task (to avoid purple between them) in the age of pre-computer-aided graphics. But apart from those, I really must say I always loved Queen I - both the US and UK packages, but moreso the dark purple (and "smaller") UK one. Love the collage of photos on the back, too... I've spent hours pondering them! Brian's duck/penguin (depending on your opinion) beak... Freddie's grapes... For a long time, (back in da day) it was as close to seeing them "live" that I could get, other than the all-too-occasionally broadcasted video (again, in quotes, "live"). It fueled my imagination for what they'd be like live, and that was awesome! |
Brian_Mays_Wig 08.07.2004 06:31 |
Yeah, I was looking at my copy of ANATO and I never noticed that the crest was embossed on that album, so Im gonna go for that as 2nd behind MIH, The reason I like MIH so much is the fantastic pic on the inside of the gatefold. |
QueenChick15 08.07.2004 12:18 |
My faorite one would be The Game because Freddie looks so friggin sexy in that one!!!!!! |

Queen II and Innuendo. I have a poster of the Queen II album cover on my wall, and it's always the first thing people notice when they come in. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 10.07.2004 17:33 |
Has anyone shopped at those hobby stores that sell something called "album frames"? They're 12 1/2" square and have glare-free glass in a plastic frame. I haven't framed any actual albums in them, just the album "flats" (printed cardboard that were promotional-issue only of the album covers). One of the most striking in a frame is the cover for Classic Queen (gold on forest green). Very regal-looking! |
goinback 10.07.2004 19:15 |
Queen II, then Queen I (pink not purple) :) Then SHA, then ANATO...all total works of art. Actually I really love the Jazz cover too strangely enough :) And I like how u can see the lights on the Live Killers cover.... Worst cover was The Works...I'd rather poke my eyes out than be so bored looking at that. I guess it was symbolic though in that it was showing Queen were returning to a simpler, stripped-down sound. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.07.2004 19:23 |
I love Hot Space, too. The album is OK, but the cover is great. So colorful. I'm using it as my desktop wallpaper right now. |

Has to be Jazz...simple but great, has a somewhat hypnotic quality! News of the World is great too... |
rogut 15.07.2004 07:01 |
My fave is The Miracle....for it's time, it was totally innovative and the result is superbly striking ! |
7Innuendo7 15.07.2004 10:45 |
Innuendo, Queen II, The Game, Jazz (whoa!), News of the World The "eyes" promo poster from The Miracle is great, and the Mick Rock QII photo used to promote Classic Queen -- 24" x 36" with crest and Classic Queen title in gold at the bottom |
CatGurl14 15.07.2004 11:30 |
I'd say Queen II, News of The World, Innuendo, Made in Heaven. :) |
BornToBeKings 15.07.2004 16:18 |
The Works I love John Deacon's hair in that picture. But I think that the pic of Deacky in his Amish farmer clothing inside the liner notes is even better. |
Libor2 15.07.2004 17:59 |
Well, hard question. But probably Queen II - great idea for this photo composition - and greatly done. But I love also ANATO and ADATR. For their simplicity. I love that idea for Queen crest on white background for A_NIGHT_ATO and another one on black background for A_DAY_ATR. Yes, even now I admire these ’little’ Queen ideas on their LPs and CDs. Have a fine day. |

I like Sheer Heart Attack the best, and then probably News of the World. |
