I was on a loooong road trip yesterday and to pass the time I had a whole bunch of Queen tapes. When I had Sheer Heart Attack on I was listening to She Makes Me and at the end I was convinced that that knocking before the heavy breathing at the end was that horrible make-you-shit-yourself "percussion" that's halfway into Track 13.
Am I right? Or had I been driving too long? That is the question.
Speaking of annoying percussion, how about that loud, obnoxious drum hit right at the end of 'White Man'. I always reduce this tremendously when making a copy of the album.
It's there to wake you up after a rather boring song ;-) Not one of Brian's best I fear!!! Speaking of annoying percussion: why did RT always open his hi hat as he hit his snare? YUK!!! Maybe it's a muso thing...
Yeah, I like the way Roger does that too. Although I'm no drummer, whenever I fill in I sometimes use that method of playing cause I like the sound.

I play like Rog when I play drums and people say some of it is quite unusual. I personally play with the sticks the 'wrong' way and I think the sound is better, but thats just personal thought really.
The good drum break during Sheer Heart Attack (off NOTW) is always worth turning the speakers up as loud as they will handle it -- it makes my cat run and hide under the bed!!
Opening the Hi-Hat and playing the snare is one of Roger's favourite techniques, along with playing Flams and having fill-ins that go around the kit and these mainly go Snare-Floor Tom-High Tom-Mid Tom etc.
His sticking is good- hitting the drums with the "wrong end" gives better endurance and a heavier sound. I play this way, and the difference is quite big.
