Whilst searching for the lyrics to Don't Cry by Guns n' Roses (great song by the way, listen to it if you hav'nt already) i came across a site which has the G n' R lyrics in order of albums. And what should i stumble across but a section called Chinese Democracy.
Now for you people who don't know what that is it is Axl Rose's long awaited album {SEVEN YEARS or something like that}. (Technically it's a G n' R album but the only original member in it now is Axl). Now that has'nt been released yet as far as i know. But anyway among a load of tracks i've never heard of are the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody AND Sail Away Sweet Sister. Now i know Axl is a huge fan of Queen and i hope he is going to cover them. So if we ever do see Chinese Democracy then i have another reason to get it. I've never heard a Sail Away Sweet Sister before.
Just thought you should know so the majority of you can complain about it...
No no, you're slightly wrong my friend!
Sail Away Sweet Sister and Bo Rhap are songs GN'R have performed live before in the past - there hasn't been any mention of those songs being included in CD. Trust me, and a big GN'R fan :-)
I once heard on live version of Sail Away Sweet Sister by Guns n' Roses. I believe it was only the chorus though.
But I think a studio cover could become something really special...
I'm a big Gn'R fan as well, and I seriously doubt that any of those songs would be covered on the LONG, LONG, FUCKIN' LONG AWAITED... 'Chinese Democracy' album (if it ever sees the light of the day).
However, one thing you could possibly expect is a guest appearance by Brian May, who actually visited Axl in the studio back in 1999, and supossedely recorded a couple (or at least one)of new tracks with him.
In the Summer Of 1992 GnR were on their massive "Use Your illusion" world tour. One of there concerts an outdoor gig in Paris I think was televised around the world live. In the UK it was shown on the old Sky Box Office channel which used to show major gigs and boxing etc. Anyway about half way through the gig Axl started singing "Sail Away Sweet Sister" he sang accapela and he sang the first verse and chorus before GnR burst into one of there own songs. I have the gig on video somewhere I must find it!
As far as I am aware this was the only time Axl did this but I could be wrong?
Hi Rich Tea... yes, I remember Axl singing 'Sweet Sister' acappella before 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.
However, I downloaded this clip, so I can't really say if that was the concert in Paris or if it was another one.
Hi There Mr Jingles
One day I will sort the 100's of video's I have out
and look at getting the best bits onto my PC its just so time consuming! I must have hours of stuff from 1992 in a very sad way it was a very good year for Queen on TV. I think MTV must have covered the tribute concert to death clips and interviews seemed to be showing for weeks after.
it was a standard thing on the Use your illusion tour for Axl to sing a chorus of SASS just before sweet child o' mine. in fact there was another bit of a song between SASS and SCOM. there's another thread on here on the same subject which identifies the other song.
The UYI tour videos were from japan gigs and have it in it.
And i think brian did a significant amount of guitar for chinese democracy, but whether his stuff will make the final mix (if there is ever such a thing) even he doesn't know, as stated on brian's site somewhere
