"Fox Television Studios declined to comment. But one executive close to the TLC deal said that Fox was already negotiating with the group by the time Burnett began discussing "Rock Star" in media interviews earlier this month. Indeed, the studio had mulled working with other bands - including Queen, the rock quartet whose lead singer, Freddie Mercury, died in 1991 - before settling on TLC as a suitably contemporary option. Taking a swipe at Burnett's project, the executive added, "I don't think anyone cares about INXS anymore."
INXS will pick their new lead singer through this reality "audition show". It is interesting to see Queen mentioned. It would be fun to see Queen in that position. Maybe next TV season?!?!?!?!
Amen to that. Michael Hutchence, like Freddie Mercury, is nearly impossible to replace. His charisma and devotion to the music industry lasted all through the 80's and into the 90's until he killed himself. That was really sad.
Either way, INXS was a great band nonetheless. With hits like "What You Need", "New Sensation", and "Need You Tonight", they really had a nice following in the US as well as Australia, the UK, and other countries.
All things considered, I want to see how INXS will do with a new lead singer. I doubt they will be really popular again here in the US, as, like Queen, their time has passed here, unfortunately...
