link Look at that picture. Is it any wonder some people are afraid of gays? Remember, I'm gay so I can say this :) I have nothing against celebrating who we are, being festive...... but on days like this when we get the most publicity, I think we scare people with this stuff. Shouldn't we be sending a message of normalness, averageness? You know, we aren't all freaky clowns and I'm just afraid that we're feeding the media a big stereotype here. People like 'Queer Eye' because again, those guys are acting over-the-top, being comedians. It's a step above dressing like clowns, but still I sorta see the gay image in modern culture as being accepted only for entertainment value. Blacks were portrayed much the same way for many years in this country. In entertainment, they were either being comical stereotypes or playing maids, or at best they were shown because they were good musicians and singers. It took a long time before we started getting some realistic portrayals of black life. Are gays going through the same stage? Must we be merely entertainment for a long time before we're accepted into the general populus? What we need is a black lesbian president. It's a shame Whitney Houston has that drug problem. |

All I've got to say about that pic is... WTF?! |
Saint Jiub 27.06.2004 00:02 |
I should be more careful in asking questions, but ... I wonder what Chad would think of this topic??? Maybe I should not have asked. |
Bob The Shrek 27.06.2004 00:05 |
To be fair, I don't have any problem with it - straight people dress just as garishly for Mardi Gras or, in the UK, the Notting Hill carnival. Whatever floats your boat as far as I am concerned. Now, if they dressed like that to go to work.........!! |
hamsters 27.06.2004 00:15 |
oh i have some pics like that on my computer from the last pride i went to... thats the one thing im quite sad about, as a photographer sf pride always provides for SO many good photo oppurtunities... |
TimeGuardian* 27.06.2004 06:35 |
I don't like people who LIKE to tell everyone that they are gay. So what? Like anybody cares |
Sonja 27.06.2004 06:55 |
I don't have a problem with it, I rather find such pictures funny. But some gays make such a big deal of their sexuality. As if being gay is their personality, like... they're not themselves, they're just gay and they want everybody else to know. And I think that's why some people get annoyed. But each to their own. |

I'm probably a bit of a hypocrite then. I do seem to mention my sexuality quite often for some reason, and I do act kinda wacky sometimes... Yeah, what the hell was I thinking posting this anyway? Sorry. Nevermind. LOL |
Penis - Vagina 27.06.2004 07:34 |
Yeah, I'm not as mentally stable as I appear. P.S. - What are you wearing? |

Hitman 27.06.2004 13:54 |
IMO who deals with his/her sexuality like it's a flag is a sort of provoker, or has some problem accepting it. i don't like this way to behave. |
iron eagle 28.06.2004 16:27 |
its peoples perceptions and own prejudices in most cases its also press and photographers convientently not portraying the vast and diverse people who celebrate pride--get the shot that will cause the most reacton.... as someone said--had that picture been from mardi gras-- it would be ok--people would laugh--comment how fun that mustve been--festive festive! because it was some gay guy and at pride-- its suddenly something the worst of the worst, shameful, horrible etc. i would be shocked and surprised at some peoples thoughts on this thread..but i am not... just be honest enough to admit its your own prejudice not everyone elses-- however if you actually take the time to understand and learn about pride--then perhaps your eyes to understanding it will be opened a bit more and you will be less judgemental and some of your own misgivings on it will diappear wtf is 'normal gays'???? someone help me here on this one-- |

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That picture looks like a normal night at The Warehouse here in Cincinnati. |
Penis - Vagina 28.06.2004 17:02 |
Good points IE. You're right. If there was just a couple of sharply dressed guys in suits, it wouldn't make for much of a picture... although the guys could be kissing, that would be nice :-P I would just like a realistic portrayal of gay life. Like an overweight guy living in a trailer in Kansas with a cat, who hasn't had sex in 10 years, has no local gay friends, basically no life. That's what gay is to me. LOL |
iron eagle 28.06.2004 18:56 |
and mine is stud muffin extrodinare with a 12yr old cat-two kids-one x wife-living with a partner of 10 yrs (that means no sex for me either *LOL*) totally monog -in atlanta |
SallyJ. 29.06.2004 05:39 |
good posting, Iron Eagle :) Drs. DAJA, you have entered the danger zone now. You only started to respect Freddie because you found out he was bi? Oh dear. Does that mean you do not respect bisexual people? Does that mean you respect people until they tell you they are bisexual? And then? You run for cover?? Now who's a hypocrite? And I'd like to add, I've thought about why gay people tell others they are gay. (not everyone does that immediately, btw) But perhaps it has something to do with the fact they would know right away how people react to it. Like Drs. DAJA for example. And then the gay person can move on and not waste time on people who are not worth it. |
S@turn 29.06.2004 05:43 |
Lucky that Freddie was gay and sometimes I realy wonder if people hav nothin better to do in their summer holidays then dirting a bulletinboard yes daya, refering to you |
SallyJ. 29.06.2004 08:27 |
Ok thanks Drs DAJA, for the compliment about my debating. I think what may be causing the trouble here, is the language. I think I know what you are saying too and I do not agree with that. I have a problem with the fact that it seems to be important to you that people are gay, hetero, or bi. It should not matter. You should respect people no matter what. They are people. And also, what do you mean by 'gay period'? |
Lisser 29.06.2004 09:58 |
I was going to say what IE already said about the media taking that particular picture on purpose of the gay men being dressed up in the manner they were. The media take pictures of what they think people will look at and catch their eyes. If they can catch their eyes then people will most likely read the story put with the picture. It is impossible to put all gays, all women, all men, all purple people eaters under one umbrella and call them all "this" or all "that." You can't do that with really any form of human beings. While some gay men or women feel the need to reveal their sexual preferences quickly, I KNOW there are heterosexual men and women also out there that feel the need to display their sexual preference out right. Anyway, it just irks me when people say "all gays are this" or "all women are this" or all "blacks this", etc. Everyone is different and I should know....I am erm, different. :) |
SergeantPepperDG 29.06.2004 12:42 |
This might clear some things up for Drs. Daja: link |
SergeantPepperDG 29.06.2004 12:44 |
I'm sure that if I were a gay male, I'd be very flamboyant (but seeing as I'm a straight female...) |
geeksandgeeks 29.06.2004 13:35 |
Correct question: Why are some PEOPLE such freaks? For all we know, some of those people are straight. I know several straight people who go to the Pride events :D |
Deaky's Middle Nut 29.06.2004 15:23 |
I've got lots of pride, though I'm not a member of the gay community, and personally think that gay folks should be very proud of themselves for being true to themselves. In fact, everyone should be proud of who they are, provided that they are true to themselves!!! That said, I do not appreciate ANYONE throwing their lifestyle in my face, be it Thugson the corner, Gays getting freaky in public, Teenagers sucking face at the Mall, Bible thumpers spouting their bullshit, the list goes on... |
SergeantPepperDG 29.06.2004 18:41 |
I think Freddie could be considered either bi OR homosexual. He DID have female relationships early on, but he came out later. There are many males that have been in straight relationships up until a point, then they realize that that lifestyle isn't for them. I think for Freddie to be bi, he had to have been constantly switching off male and female. If from a certain point on, he decided that he liked males better, and never had anymore intimate relationships with females, then he was homosexual. |
Deaky's Middle Nut 29.06.2004 19:17 |
Remember Folks, Elton John WAS married..... ...and no-one would dare consider him bi! |
Penis - Vagina 29.06.2004 19:52 |
Drs. DAJA wrote: And I accept The most bisexual cause they'r closer to straight than gay, and they ar also not looking to a srtain sexuality they fall in love and that's it.hehe! I love your reasoning. Closer to straight? You mean only slightly sickening to you. Freddie was gay. He tried having a relationship with a woman (Mary Austin) but it ended up being better as just a friendship. Once he stopped fighting his sexuality, there were no further variations.. always gay. There was no 'gay period'. Freddie died while in a long term relationship with a live-in MALE lover, Jim Hutton. |
jasen101 29.06.2004 20:02 |
why are some gays such freaks? I dunno, why are some straights such freaks? I guess it is just PEOPLE that are freaks. |
jasen101 29.06.2004 20:04 |
Talking about freaks... think we should elect a person that has encompasses every part of our freaky and diverse world. So the next Fat, Black, Crippled Dyke I see running for president has my vote! |
iron eagle 29.06.2004 20:18 |
Dykes *shudders at the thought* |
SergeantPepperDG 29.06.2004 21:55 |
I'd say an African American Jewish Disabled Lesbian. |
SergeantPepperDG 30.06.2004 19:13 |
That made absolutely no sense. Anywho, I wrote a persuasive editorial on not banning gay marriage, and I got an A+! Woohoo! |
jasen101 05.07.2004 22:03 |
Hey Drs. DAJA why don't you go fuck yourself? Love, Jasen101 |

What Queenzone loophole allows one to change the subject title???? |

:) |
Saint Jiub 06.07.2004 00:05 |
I don't know - most have German titles ... Now change the subject line again please and make me look even more like an ass ... I do not get enough abuse in my home or work life, and I find the normal abuse at Queenzone to be unsatisfying ... |
Penis - Vagina 06.07.2004 01:19 |
I love you Bullwinkle :) To answer your question though, the originating poster can change the subject just like they can edit a post. Only works in the very first post of a thread. |
