I just witnessed a horrible motorcycle/car accident. I pulled out of my corner convenience store after putting air in one of my tires. Out of nowhere this motorcycle sped by me, going around me.. it's just a two lane road. I was already close to 40 mph so it must have been going 60 - 80 because it seemed twice my speed. It scared the hell out of me and I watched as it continued to speed along blocks ahead of me, when a car pulled out in front of it, just like I'd (apparently) done.. and it hit the side and the rider shot up into the sky. I don't see any way he could have survived but I'm hoping for a miracle. I called 911 and told them what I saw but they'd already had many calls about it. I just feel so sick and upset. It could have been my car.. actually I wish it had been.. might have been a lower speed collision since I was near an intersection. :( |

Oh God Deaconfan!! I'm so sorry. I really don't like motorcycles. My husband insisted on getting one and I fear it'll be the death of him. I hope you feel better soon. |

Oh God, I'm sorry. :-( |

Oh dear, so sorry you had to see that. :-( |

I think a rather large brandy might be the order of the day. There's nowt like it for shock. I always keep a bottle handy when my accountant calls round, rot him. I'm sure if you ask nicely, Bob The Shrek will cheer you up with some of his 'street pizza' undertaker tales. Sorry. Just a thought. |
Mayboy 26.06.2004 18:51 |
Sorry to hear that DF :( |

Well, local news said he died instantly and an old couple in the car even went to the hospital with minor injuries. They estimated the speed at 60.. I say it was faster. They haven't released his name or age until family can be notified. The bike stayed there at the car and he went flying.. they didn't say whether he had a helmet on and I didn't see. I'm still freaked out but not so upset. |

RIP |

You can rely on me for the nasty comment too: The chances are, they could have nailed his body to a swastika - think about it. |

Here's a somewhat incorrect story from our ABC station: link
KAKE TV wrote: Saturday, June 26, 2004 A deadly accident involving a motorcycle causes traffic problems in southwest Wichita today. A motorcycle and a car were involved in the accident near the 1900 block of W. MacArthur Road, just east of Meridian. Police and accident investigators investigated the scene. A motorcycle was traveling down MacArthur at a high rate of speed with one or two other motorcycles, when a car coming out of a mobile home park hit it.I live at 2206 W. by the way. The car was not coming from a mobile home park... there are none there. It was coming out of a privately owned area with one mobile home and a small lake. And the car did not hit the motorcycle. The car was pulling out to the left when the bike hit the car on its side. I didn't see any other motorcycles but I guess it makes sense now.. he was trying to catch up to them. Brilliant. Police say the incident highlights the need for following speed limit signs.Oh, you think so Sherlock? Police are trying to contact the victim’s family. McConnell Air Force Base says the victim was stationed there.Very sad. Probably a young soldier. Perhaps the Air Force should teach some fucking driving skills. |
Bob The Shrek 26.06.2004 22:20 |
If the car was pulling out, then surely the car driver is at fault. Fair enough the biker might have been speeding but he would still have right of way. The driver either didn't see the bike or mis-judged how fast it was going. Very common unfortunately. As well as teaching the biker to drive at a decent speed, people should be taught to be more aware of motorcycles - I have had a few near misses in my time. |
Penis - Vagina 26.06.2004 22:40 |
Well I apparently had a near miss without even realizing it.. when he came out of nowhere and zoomed past me. They do mention in the full story that the position of the sun might have been a factor too. I had no trouble when I looked to the left and saw nothing. In fact bikes are supposed to have headlights on all the time and I saw no light when I pulled out. He could have been turning onto the street at the intersection when I pulled out.. that could be it, but if so he did it unsafely after the light had changed, because I saw the light (for East-West) change and nobody moving yet. He was still accelerating and you know how motorcycles sound when they're doing that, it's a bit unsettling to begin with. And he just kept going faster and faster. I kind of knew something was going to happen otherwise I might not have kept watching, because my turn was coming up. I'm moving into the 'anger stage' because now that I'm calmer, I'm mad that this is going to haunt me. It's hard to detach yourself from something like this. He had just gone around me and then hits a car in front of me.. it's freaky. |

I wish I had some practical advice on how to deal with the demon of remembering such an event but I don't, everyone has their own way of dealing with such things. I am a callous, uncaring sort of person - I don't allow things like that to upset me - if I did I would never ride a bike or drive a car again. Sorry. |
TimeGuardian* 27.06.2004 06:33 |
yeah, well me and my friend once saw a dead body in the middle of the road. There was a huge car accident. It wasn't a really pleasant view Next day we read from the ewspapers that father and two sons died. Their mother and one daughter survived What's the point of making such terrible posts? It only makes people sad :( |
Bob The Shrek 27.06.2004 09:15 |
I have probably seen in the region of 10,001 dead bodies. The odd one in the total accounts for the person that stares at me in the mirror each morning. |

Lennox - AJ Grizzel, age 18, of Lennox, SD, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Wichita, KS, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Arrangements are pending with Miller Funeral Home Valley View Chapel. McConnell Air Force Base identified the man killed in a two-vehicle accident in Wichita on Saturday as Airman 1st Class Randy Grizzel, 18. The base released his name this morning. Grizzel, a native of Lennox, S.D, was attached to the 22nd Civil Engineering Squadron. The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday on West MacArthur near Meridian when the motorcycle Grizzel was driving collided with a car that was pulling out of a driveway. Grizzel was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating the accident and no charges have been filed, said Janet Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Wichita Police Department. She said the investigation could take weeks. |

Its experiences like this that make you realise life is so precious. At least if he died instantly he wont have felt too much pain. The bad thing is the guy in the car he hit will feel guilty for the rest of his life. This is my greatest fear about learning to drive- im scared i could knock somebody down. Deaconfan, i deeply sympathise, but thank God it wasnt you and thank him for taking that young man as quickly as possible. It was better than him suffering any longer :( |
Erin 29.06.2004 10:34 |
I have never witnessed an accident in progress like that...scary stuff. I have my doubts that I could make myself drive again if I was ever involved in a serious accident. There are so many bad drivers out there...makes me wish I lived back out in the country again.. |
Penis - Vagina 29.06.2004 17:21 |
Barry - Yes, I called 911 as soon as I could get through (it took three tries) told them what I saw and they took my name & number but I haven't been contacted. Erin - Though I wasn't physically involved, this has made me have some anxiety about driving. I didn't leave the house again until Sunday night and I purposely waited until it was dark so I wouldn't see the road in daylight. It's going to be hard to avoid, being the main street I live off of. I have anxiety and panic problems which have been under control for a long time but something like this could easily trigger that. I find that I'm a bit obsessed with it also, looking for further news stories and trying to find out more about this guy. |

shame stuff like that has to happen-and a difficult thing for someone to witness too here in atlanta we got motorcycle races (for lack of better term) on the highways- going at least 100 mph or more--weaving in and out of traffic... never see them until they are right up there on you...scares the hell out of you sometimes |
Erin 30.06.2004 10:01 |
I know all about that. Our apartment is right next to the interstate..lovely. :-p We hear people motorcycle racing at night (on what my father refers to as "crotch rockets"), we also hear the train, and the sirens..and the.... |

I feel sorry for you :( That reminds me of the time last year when while I was at my mom's, we took a trip to the pig farm she worked at, and she showed me what they do with little runts that have no chance of living physically.....er, you could guess what they do then... |
Penis - Vagina 03.07.2004 16:07 |
*cough* Well I wouldn't go so far as to equate pig runts to an 18 year old soldier getting killed, but anyway... since this topic got brought back up, here's a link to the very nice but sad obit we had in our paper here.. the poor guy got a really crummy obit in his own hometown. link It made me cry. I'm not thinking about it as much a week later but this really touched me because it's a glimpse of who he was. Just a kid who graduated last year and always wanted to join the Air Force and was doing very well there. He would have been 19 on the 7th. :( I wish those 'crotch rocket' racing style motorcycles weren't available. I don't think the guys who buy them intend on just having a cool looking bike to go the speed limit on. It's too much power to have so easily available. All it takes is one time, pushing it a bit too far and you can end your life for the sake of a little thrill, or trying to catch up to your friends. |
Lisser 03.07.2004 23:21 |
I think you might be right DF!! :) |
