In case you haven't seen it yet on the net, Brian and Roger will be on the American radio call-in program Rockline next Wednesday, June 23. If your local station does not carry it, there is a link to a live feed via link Eager beavers also have the opportunity to call-in with questions. Also, what is a good program to record this interview via the web to keep for posterity? And while I'm on the subject of Queen and Rockline, in my neverending search for radio interviews, I am always on the lookout for Brian's and Roger's 1989 appearance on Rockline promoting The Miracle. Any help is appreciated. |

Absolute MP3 Recorder is best for such things: link Regardless of the name, you can set it to record directly to a wav file. It even has an event timer. Seems like kind of a stupidly-written program at times, but it works. Tip: set volume all the way down to record your sound card at actual volume, otherwise you may get distortion. |

I envy the lucky people who will be in the studio with Brian and Roger. I'm tuning in for sure! |
Maz 23.06.2004 12:09 |
A gentle bump for the show tonight. Call-in and you may get lucky. I'm still trying to figure out how to record it. Learning new programs on the fly is not fun, but I'll give it a go. |

What time will it be on (European/Amsterdam time) ? |
Maz 23.06.2004 12:49 |

Okay, here's some instructions for using Absolute MP3 Recorder: Under 'Select input format' choose 'CD Quality' under 'name' same thing for 'Select record format' For 'Record source', select 'Wave out mix' then volume all the way to the left, check 'Save MP3 as .wav' although mine does this automatically whether I check it or not.. in fact I've never figured out how to record directly to MP3, LOL ... oh, okay, back when you are selecting input format and record format, you can choose 'MPEG Layer 3' under 'format' instead of 'PCM', this will record to MP3 if you want.. I choose to edit the wav and encode to MP3 later. Now find a stream somewhere (such as link which has other stuff on now) to test it out first. I'm not terribly fond of their streaming techniques.. requiring a pop-up (couldn't just hold shift, I had to turn the Google bar off completely) and requiring cookies and/or a small registration thing before the stream starts, but once we're past that, it sounds decent.. mono, but clear. Actually specifically for this, you could save some file size by recording in mono since the stream is anyway. Under 'Select record format' choose '44.100 kHz, 16 bit, Mono' under 'Attributes'.. it's right above the default stereo setting. Anyway, while the stream is loading up, hit record and try it out... then you'll find the recorded waves in C:\Program Files\Techlogic\Absolute MP3 Recorder\Recordings with filenames that are like 'Manual - 2004.06.23 . 16.43.40.wav' And for the event timer, hopefully it's pretty much self-explanatory because I'm exhausted :-P PS - Turn down the volume on the streaming thing a bit too.. it's quite loud and mine was almost distorting even with Absolute's volume all the way down. |
Maz 23.06.2004 17:58 |
Thanks for the tips. I fiddled with it earlier today, but was having some problems recording. I'll test it again. |
Daburcor? 23.06.2004 19:12 |
Damn... I'm gonna miss it. If anyone makes an MP3 out of it and is willing to share it, I would appreciate it very much. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 23.06.2004 19:55 |
Damn, damn, DAMN -- I missed it, very busy day at work...waah! :-(( |
Penis - Vagina 23.06.2004 19:59 |
Unless I forget about it, I'll be recording it.. but I'm not sure how I can share a 90 minute program.. even low quality and edited of commercials it's gonna be big. I have 10 MB maximum per webspace. Could split it up but I don't wanna devote more than one space to it really. We'll see what happens.. perhaps I can share my edited version (just cutting commercials and any songs we've heard a million times) with someone else who can share it somewhere else like the hub. Would be even better if someone who gets it on radio rather than the web could record it in stereo and higher quality :) Unfortunately Wichita, KS isn't among the affiliates listed, though I know it used to be on here on Sunday nights. |
Penis - Vagina 23.06.2004 20:00 |
Hehe, I see the Google ads are adjusting here to fit the conversation :) |
Maz 23.06.2004 21:34 |
Can't get the damn program to work. I keep getting Error Setting Up Recording message. It worked earlier for me today, but then screwed up. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but I still get the same message. Any ideas, Jeffrey? |
Penis - Vagina 23.06.2004 22:14 |
I wish I could help. Never had a problem myself. By 'setting up' it sounds like maybe you're trying to use the timer.. perhaps there's an issue there. I've only tried the timer once and it worked okay. I dunno :( I just tried setting this up with a timer.. it's kinda dumb.. since in my time zone it'll be 10:30 pm to 12:00 am it's not letting me save it for 'Wednesday only' since that goes into Thursday.. why don't they just have 'once'? :-P And I don't think we can do the stream thing with this as a timer because of the way the players are embedded in the page, we don't actually get the direct address of the stream. I'd get the stream going a couple minutes before, and just start recording manually. The reason I like that program is because it seems so simple (aside from the timer thing).. and while I could just record stuff with Sound Forge, this runs much less bulkier and doesn't seem to take up too many resources. |
Penis - Vagina 23.06.2004 22:43 |
I've just been doing a lot of messing around with their streaming page and got a direct address which opens up Media Player by itself, so you avoid the ads and other nonsense on their page: link BTW, here's another of my helpful hints for all: Save resources and other nonsense by using the old version 'mplayer2' player which runs much smaller and more efficient than the newer Media Player versions. The best thing is.. you do still have this player if you have XP!.. it's hidden in plain sight in the media player folder (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player) mplayer2.exe is this old one, wmplayer.exe is the bulky crappy newer version. I create a link (shortcut) to this old version and use it wherever possible. link Okay, I'm off to restart and record the show without distractions :) |

I am trying to call in myself, but the lines have been busy solid through the entire show... I don't think I have a prayer to get a question in. But that would be quite a dream come true to have a word with Brian and ROger. |

Lisser 24.06.2004 01:02 |
If you mean get through on the phone, I didn't even try. The interview was awesome though. I luuuuuurved it. |
Brandon 24.06.2004 01:07 |
Well, I got through at the beginning of the show and was put on hold for almost the entire hour and one-half!! I was told to change my question once and just when I thought I had an ace-in-the-hole by saying I'd actually seen the musical, another Breakthruer stole my thunder!! Blast!! *LOL* My hand is sore, my ears are sweaty and I had to listen to the entire show through the phone but by God it was worth it!!! I may never again get to hear Roger speaking through my phone!! *LOL* Anyway, the boxsets are officially placed on the backburner, so no surprise there. But it is good to know there are other live realeases somewhere down the line! |
Daburcor? 24.06.2004 01:08 |
What all did they talk about? Was GVHIII mentioned? |
Brandon 24.06.2004 01:12 |
They talked mostly about WWRY. And the comment by the host at the end about being able to play 90 mins of music and still have 90 more to spare was a joke!! Between the commercials, his domineering guidance of the conversation and the applause I doubt we got 30 mins of real talk time. |
Maz 24.06.2004 01:15 |
That's typical of Rockline. It's a great program, but they interupt too much for it to take 90 minutes. I recorded it all (thanks Jeffrey), but only got to listen to the first 30 minutes, and even then I was very distracted. Who got through that we might know? Did you actually get through Brandon? |
AdamCDN 24.06.2004 01:21 |
I got through to the producer or whoever it is that takes your call first with about 30 mins to go, he wrote down my question and said that it was a good one, but I never got to go on the air before the show was over... BUT I did get to hear something kinda cool. I stayed on the line through the end of the show, and after about 2 minutes of dead air the audio came back on to me and I could hear Roger and Brian talking to the host. He was trying to get them to record what I guess was the 'encore question' like the one they got from INXS. So, I didn't get to talk to them, but I did get my precious little candid moment. |
The Black Queen 24.06.2004 01:21 |
They talked about the viagra commercial, Roger had a smart comeback! "perhaps you could use some" is what I think he said to Brian and Brian said back "erm no I'm fine thanks!" |
rhapsody__87 24.06.2004 01:22 |
FREAKIN A!!!!! I CALLED IN! I sat for half an hour with my cell phone, pressing re-dial until I got through. I didn't get to talk to the boys though. I spoke to the operator and this was in the last 15 minutes of the show. He said he'd send my question along to Brian and Roger and told me to hang on the line. Well I hung on the line. For fifteen minutes. Then the show ended. I never got to ask my question! I was sitting there for so long, my stomach tensed in anticipation, my heart beating really fast. Can you imagine -- actually SPEAKING to them? A dream come true!!! So close... yet so far away. Anyway, my question was: "If Freddie were still alive, what direction could you see yourselves going in, musically?" Oh well. |
fat bottomed girl 7238 24.06.2004 01:26 |
Did anybody manage to record it? I would love a copy if anybody did - I would reimburse you for this of course.. FBG |
Penis - Vagina 24.06.2004 01:31 |
I got the whole thing recorded in 6 segments. Just got the smooth intros and outros done and no commercials, but I'm torn as to whether to get rid of the music. I probably will. It's not real pleasant at 20 kbps mono. They played lots of stuff including a few bits of cast recordings, but the full length tracks were: We Will Rock You We Are The Champions Killer Queen Keep Yourself Alive (semi-surprise) Long Away (Big surprise!) Bohemian Rhapsody I'm In Love With My Car |
fat bottomed girl 7238 24.06.2004 01:42 |

Brandon 24.06.2004 02:00 |
Adam, I got my call in the first three mins!!! I thought I was soooo in!! Nah, Zeni. I too was told my question was good but then told to change it!(?) So I did but couldn't come up with anything better than asking about their feelings on the fanclub's breaking a world-record and asking if they had anything in mind to celebrate the convention's 20th anniversary. I told the producers I saw the show and they sounded interested and a few minutes later a woman producer came on the line and spoke to me about the fanclub asking questions about Queen's involvement and my own. I REALLY thought I had a chance. Crap! I'm still not going to be able to sleep tonight! |
MercuryArts 24.06.2004 02:02 |
I missed it!! Damnit!!! |
Brandon 24.06.2004 02:03 |
In all fairness though, I'll probably never again respond to the question, "With whom would you like top speak?" with "Brain and Roger!" Also, they may have kept me off the phone because I was giggling like a girl. Or maybe my accent kept me from speaking to Queen!! *LOL* Next time, I'll stick with a question about the musical or something we all know already such as the story of the Red Special!! I don't think Rockline is quite up on Queen as much as we are and something like that may have landed me an opportunity to speak with Brian and Roger. |
rhapsody__87 24.06.2004 02:06 |

But the operator guy and I were joking around and stuff and then he connected me so I could hear the radio show on my phone. I'm really sad and frustrated that I didn't get to talk to BM and RT. Whatever. :-( |
Maz 24.06.2004 02:07 |
Gee, I would have thought Roger loved giggling school girls. That should have been your "in," Brandon. I'd love to share my version of the interview, but at 30+Mb, it's a bit much right now. Perhaps after I return to QZ in a couple weeks, I can try it. |
Brandon 24.06.2004 02:12 |
Actually, Erica, I think they connect everyone with the show so callers will turn their radios down in order to prevent echoing. Zeni, I may have been giggling like a girl but I would hope my voice was deep enough to be distinguished as a man's!! |
rhapsody__87 24.06.2004 02:24 |
Oh. Well I still figured my question was going to be used because the guy told me it would be sent along and I'd be on in around 10 minutes so I should hang on the line. Liars, all of 'em! |

It was interesting to learn that the principle reason for TMLWKY not appearing on the The Miracle were problems that occured because the song had different publishers rather than internal reasons. Also, William Hung really didn't need permission to sing WATC. Roger didn't even know that I'm In Love With My Car was used for the Jaguar commercial until he was told later on...so there. |
