I have a love-hate relationship with these. On one hand, they scare me silly (yes, I know I'm a baby, don't rub it in). On the other hand, I think they're great. I just finished watching "From Hell" - I'd seen Johnny Depp in that role before (Sleepy Hollow) and he never fails to - forgive my schmalziness - chill me to the bone. So anyway, I want to continue to torture myself as such. Does anyone have some (HIGH-QUALITY, NOT slasher) flicks to recommend? For anyone who hasn't seen them (and thinks they can handle it), I definitely recommend the original Psycho, I Bury the Living, Carrie, Halloween 1, and possibly the most frightening movie of all time, Wait Until Dark. |
TheMiracle 09.06.2004 22:59 |
I love Wait Until Dark! Audrey Hepburn is my favorite actress. The Shining still seems to get to me after all these years |
Mr.Jingles 09.06.2004 23:15 |
I saw 'Rosemary's Baby' last week. Indeed one of the greatest thrillers ever, but almost ruined by a stupid ending. |
rhapsody__87 09.06.2004 23:26 |
I do not fare well with horror movies... I see one and for a week I'm scared. Happens every time. :-[ |
iGSM 10.06.2004 01:39 |
The Thing and The Fog..of deaaaaaaath. But I love The Thing. |
Daburcor? 10.06.2004 04:22 |
The most frightening movie I've ever seen is Nosferatu. I think it's a combinaton of really good makeup and the way those old films jump. I do love that movie so... *sigh* *ahem* Yeah... Uhhh... That movie. :P |
deleted user 10.06.2004 05:06 |
I really LOVE horror movies!! I recommend the Hellraiser movies, A Nightmare On Elmstreet, The Ring and of course The Exorcist and that really is my all time favourite (although it isn't as scary as it was 31 years ago.) The scariest movie I've ever seen is The Eye. That scared the hell out of me!! You should see it! |
Virtuoso 10.06.2004 06:36 |
Nosferatu was way ahead of his time, certainly one of the scariest movies ever.At the end,the way Nosferatu desappeared was so well made.Anyways,a movie that I consider you to see is "Jacob's Ladder" with Tim Robbins. |
iGSM 10.06.2004 07:48 |
There's a Hollywood remake of The Eye...called The Eye. |
Krizzy 10.06.2004 11:58 |
Salem's Lot (the original)still scares me. There is a new remake I will see it and also The Exorcist I have the new one with the unseen footage. Frightening! Kriz 8oO |
geeksandgeeks 10.06.2004 12:43 |
Oh yeah, Nosferatu's great. I also saw that Japanese (Chinese?) movie Ringu that The Ring was based off. Whoa. I've heard that Se7en is pretty good as well. anyone seen it? |
I love John 10.06.2004 15:48 |
my mum sed that when the exorcist came out, people thought it was sick! People either think its sick, funny or god damn scary. i think it's quite funny, actually! |
deleted user 10.06.2004 18:55 |
Yeah, The Exorcist is rather funny :-D:-D I thought I was the only one!! |
dragonzflame 10.06.2004 19:20 |
I gave up on horror movies after I saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Didn't sleep properly for at least a week after and the second night after I saw it I veritably begged my boyfriend to come and stay! Fair enough it was rated R18 but I saw Secret Window some months later which had a significantly lower rating and it still gave me the shivers.(even though i thought it was shite...man I hate being cheated!) So now I'm only going to watch things with bunnies, ponies and sex scenes. The weirdest thing is I never had any trouble with that spate of horror films that began with Scream. And not really with the Exorcist either...mind you, supernatural stuff doesn't bother me too much. |
Margo 11.06.2004 17:26 |
the only 'horror' movie ive really watched is cube. I keep telling people about it because i think everyone should watch it because it is the weirdest move i have seen. plus- people are killed randomly. so watch it. |

It sounds...eh...interesting. And how could I omit Donnie Darko? Sheer brilliance. |
MexQueenFM 11.06.2004 17:48 |
i've seen the cube, it's rather disturbing, and the exorcist is funny, the other "blood bath" movies are also funny, i've yet to see a good horror movie |

Horror movies do nothing for me, I find them all a bit shite. Each to their own though. |

Mr.Jingles 12.06.2004 11:01 |
Donnie Darko is an excellent flick, but I dunno if it would qualify as a horror movie. It's one of those weird David Lynch style of movies that are great but you don't really know what kind of genre do they belong to. The Japanese version of 'The Ring' is a lot better than the American remake, and the last scene with the girl coming out of the TV is a hell more creepy. |

Once you've pulled a bloke out of a canal after a boat propeller has taken the top of his head off, picked up a bloke who has been dead on the toilet for 3 months and infested with maggots, picked up a woman who was burnt to death, picked up a bloke who jumped off a motorway bridge and hit by 6 cars before he touched the road, picked up a bloke who emptied both barrels of a shotgun through his head and numerous other lovely sights - horror movies are a bit tame! |

Right. I just got home, it's 01:30 at night and I just saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm scared. Anyone want to comfort me? Hell, I won't sleep tonight! And my plan on keeping my boyfriend up with me went wrong, cos he was already asleep when I came home! Hmpf. Btw, can anyone tell me just how much of that story IS true (it says it is inspired by a true story)? Was it a whole sick family and man with a mask made of human skin? I doubt it, but all of my friends seem to think these parts are reasonably true. It says the case was not solved, apparently because the psycho ran off - but at the countryside, far off in Texas, being misshaped and missing an arm (according to the version I saw now, mind you), how the hell could he NOT be found and recognised? And my excuses for rambling on about these things, it will probably seem very silly when I wake up tomorrow and have gotten to my senses. |

the first nightmare on elm street late at nite, the first children of the corn etc |

Silje, because I have every ounce of sympathy in the world for you, I've got a link here for you that should answer your question. link You'll be fine, just don't think about the guy getting hung on the hook (which was the bit that really got me, especially when my boyfriend kept poking me in the back!) and you'll forget all about it. May I also recommend a good dose of children's films for the next few days. |
~Silje~ 13.06.2004 09:55 |
Yep, yep. I found this last night and immediately calmed down a lot. ;-) I was mostly scared because after the movie my mind would start thinking of more close-to-reality things which also scare me, I am like that. The movie in itself annoyed me quite a bit because of how the damned girl tries to save everyone. If she had any sorts of instincts she'd just RUN. But thanks a lot. :-) This evening I'm apparently going to see ANOTHER scary movie which was even recorded in my own country. So do expect me back tonight, hehe. |

I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacure was more gross than scary! Many times I had to look away just so I wouldn't see what leatherface would do to his victims! |
dragonzflame 13.06.2004 19:31 |
Yeah, I was the same. I got very well acquainted with the red lights running down the aisle! |

I still haven't seen either versions of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I'd kind of like to see it just out of curiosity. I for one love horror flicks. |

Tell me, Bob (man, we are getting into the macabre here), what's your most popular kind of coffin? I have a neighbor who is an undertaker, and he has some...interesting...thoughts on this. |
~Silje~ 14.06.2004 11:57 |
What ideas? *pays attention* |
Bob The Shrek 14.06.2004 14:24 |
Geeks - the 3 main types of coffin I sold were: a light wood veneer chipboard, mahogany and oak. The veneer was the most popular because it was the cheapest - afterall, all you are going to do is burn it or chuck it in the ground. The handles were bronzed - which means they were plastic, sprayed to look like bronze, and couldn't be used to carry the coffin. This was so that they would melt in a cremator. All coffins came with pale blue linings for men, pink for the ladies and white for children. The worst case scenario I had for a funeral was a bloke who had no legs and still weighed 462lbs - his son ordered an oak coffin, which is a heavy bastard for a normal sized adult. Because of his weight, the coffin had to be specially made and looked like the flight deck of a small aircraft carrier - it took 8 of us to carry it on our shoulders and even then we struggled. |
nil 14.06.2004 14:39 |
Me and Horror films don't mix well, my mate said I watched Silence of the lambs, hannibal lecter and dog soldiers okies, but, there not horror films are they? |
dragonzflame 14.06.2004 23:44 |
What if I hate pink? Am I doomed to an eternity in a candyfloss machine? |
iGSM 15.06.2004 01:08 |
Yeah. I'll have mine orange. I don't care I can't have it. Make it so. |

Bob, I think you should post a topic with a bunch of your stories, They're very interesting. P.S. I want to be a Shrek too... *sniffle* |

Anyway, I asked because my neighbor undertaker, whose son is one of my best friends, told me that when he's helping people plan their funerals, they always tell him that they want something very simple - just a pine box will do them fine. But then, when the time finally comes around, even if they don't order something ridiculously fancy (gold-plated box hand-carved with their initials in ruby or whatnot), they always get it lead-lined - so that the worms, etc. can't get in, he thinks, because the idea makes them all sick. I thought that was interesting, and I was wondering if it was the same with you. Actually, it might be an interesting career (though not one I'd work toward) to be the person who applies makeup to corpses for their funerals. At least the clients would never complain about how they looked. |
Bob The Shrek 15.06.2004 17:29 |
The only time we used lined coffins is for transportation abroad - and that is because it is a legal requirement. Why people would worry about worms is beyond me - they are dead! You'd be suprised at how many complaints we had by family members, when they went to view their nearest and dearest, that we had got the hair/make up wrong - totally ignoring the fact that we didn't have a clue what they looked like when they were alive! Rather than doing the make up, Geeks, have a go at actually undertaking and perfect the art of taking the piss out of the mourners without them knowing - great fun ;-) |
Daburcor? 15.06.2004 18:15 |
Oh my GOD! Being an undertaker sounds SO much cooler than being a wrestler CALLED undertaker! :O |

Hey Bob, how did you feel about Six Feet Under? Relatively true to life or the TV script writer's black art? |
Bob The Shrek 15.06.2004 19:55 |
Would you believe, I have never seen it! I was technical advisor on The Bill once! The producer called me when I was managing our premises on the Harrow Road, near Paddington, and asked how to conduct a removal from a residence - just to make sure they got it right in whatever episode it was for. Did I get a mention in the credits? Did I bollocks - bastards. |
deleted user 16.06.2004 08:29 |

Godfather Dan wrote: Oh my GOD! Being an undertaker sounds SO much cooler than being a wrestler CALLED undertaker! :OThe Undertaker is the world's biggest waste of space. I don't know why they waste so much time on him, when they have plenty of people who can actually do stuff. Bob, I'm sure you can always count on the FAMILY to bitch - which seems kind of odd, you'd think they'd be more immediately concerned with the fact that their loved one is dead. Which reminds me, you always hear in the romance stories about people looking peacefully asleep when they're dead. From what I've seen (which, admittedly, is not a whole lot, mostly photograhpic evidence from Forensic Files), they usually just look dead. The family's probably grateful somewhere in its essence that they don't have to see THAT again. Oh yeah, and I found out that one of my acquanitances on the Pearl Jam boards has a KISS coffin, in which he intends to be buried. It's sitting in his garage now. Am I the only one who finds this just the slightest bit disturbing? |
dragonzflame 16.06.2004 19:47 |
