sorry for lower case, can't use right hand right now. anyway, i bought the deluxe edition of donna summer's 'bad girls' and can't play or extract the last two tracks on each disc due to this nonsense.
i need the phone number universal music group included with their earlier cp discs, such as '2 fast 2 furious' if anyone has one of these corrupt discs with the ph. number, please.. i can't find it anywhere.. their site says they authorized refunds but best buy won't honor that and uni won't reply by email so i need a toll-free number if possible. thanks.
thanks barry... but even with a playable copy, i can't stand the thought of supporting corrupt cd makers to the tune of $24.99. i'll keep a copy for my trouble if i can get something to work, but still need my refund :)
Do not buy copy controlled CDs! The data on these CDs are damaged on purpose by the record industry to make it impossible for you to play your legally purchased CD on your computer.
Copy controlled CDs do not fulfill the Compact Disc Digital Audio (CD-DA) Standard, which has been used worldwide for over 20 years. Therefore, copy controlled CDs are NO audio CDs and when the record company claims it's a regular audio CD they are deliberately lying and trying to sell you an inferior product. A legally purchased copy controlled CD is in many cases WORSE than an illegal copy which plays on all players with no problems if a good medium was used.
If you have bought a copy controlled CD that does not play on ANY of your CD players, demand a refund and don't accept another copy controlled product. Buy from amazon.co.uk or buy CDs imported from Great Britain, where customers just do not buy inferior CDs and copy controlled CDs are hardly produced anymore! In France a court recently ruled that EMI had to refund a customer for a copy controlled CD. In Germany consumer lawyers are preparing a lawsuit against record companies suing them for computer sabotage (some copy controlled CDs damage your PC if you try to play them).
The funny thing about this sad story is that the copy protection does not even work, it's easy to copy a so-called copy controlled CD.

Well, easy to say to don't buy Copy Controlled CD's. How do I listen then to Albums of bands that only have copy controlled CD's??? It's not nice to download them from the internet :) I have some copy-controlled CD's in my collection "Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane", "Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death", but I've never had problems with playing them on my computer.
yeah, this one isn't labelled as being such, but to be fair, it has no official cd-da logo either. i tried 'demanding' a refund to no avail.
i guess i could go through the exchange thing until they run out of copies... at least it might get a few corrupt discs off the market.
please keep in mind that a) i purchased this with the full intention of owning it. b) i always make back-up copies for playing, especially in the case of such an expensive item.
Aparently the copy protection on some CD's can be by passed by applying covering the edge of the disc on the read side with black marker pen (I don't have a reliable source for this so I doubt that it is true).
I have filed a complaint with my local Better Business Bureau against Best Buy for not accepting a return of this defective item. I've been unable to make any sort of contact with Universal Music Group regarding this, so I thought I'd go this route first.
Today I went ahead and exchanged the disc for a new copy and of course, it's got the same problems. I needed to be able to say that I at least tried that first.
Wish me luck :)
I have this fungus right now which has been causing my itching feet and hands. When I made this post, I had just started treatment and thought I had to keep a layer of cream on my hand and a glove, but I've since learned otherwise.
Anyway, Universal finally replied. They claim this title isn't copy protected and they're sending a new one. LOL. It's probably going to be the exact same way.
Incidently I got my blood test results back today and all is well. So there's no explanation for my frequent urination or salivation.
One thing though.. I'm pregnant.
