Over the last year or so, i can't help noticing how many YOUNG people on this forum are really into Queen, some who weren't even born when Freddie died, although i admire them for having great taste in music, my question is, what got them into the Queen scence in the first place?, parents?, older brother or sister?, around the area i live, i don't know of one person younger than 30 who are passionate about Queen. |

Yeah, this is true. Recently a month ago we organised Queenfans meeting, and what - I was the oldest man there with my only 25 years old:):):):) |

Queen is very popular in france among the 10-18 years old because of heavy Queen rotation : Evian & SFR advertises, important radio play, Budapest, Wembley & MK shows regularely broadcasted on popular channels etc... |

29 and still passionate about Queen!!! Was 11 when I discovered the boys - August 1986. Just too late!!! Bugger! Perhaps some of the "youngsters" have discovered Queen due to some of the activities of Brian and Roger over past few years. The same activites everyone seems to want to slate them for (5ive, Pepsi, Coke, Jaguar, We Will Rock You). Ironic really, isn't it, if that's a contributing factor!!! |

Not to insinuate that you are old but...many young fans were introduced to Queen by their parents! Also, Queen is just one of those classic bands that sticks around forever, a band that everyone knows at least a few of their songs. You can't get away from WWRY/WATC at sporting events; Killer Queen, Bo Rhap, CLTCL, AOBTD are constantly on classic rock radio; Queen is just generally ubiquitous, inspiring more than a few to explore more about the music :) |

My dad introduced me to Queen by puting GHI on tape while traveling on car. Nowadays, he regrets it as I'm all day long bugging him with the gay and the others. |

I'm not that young, but I know Queen because of my parents, both of them like them |

I was getting board with the Top 40 crap that I was listening to, so I asked my mom what she liked when she was younger, and she told me about Killer Queen and Don't Try Suicide, her favorite Queen songs. And for Christmas, I got Greatest Hits 1, 2, and 3, and from my uncle, the Crown Jewels collection. At first, I wasn't that interested in the Crown Jewels collection, and I never listened to Queen or Queen II at all, but soon, I began listening to them all and fell in love with every CD. Now 6 months later, my mom is berating herself because she created a monster, because my room is plastered with pictures of the band and I'm always spending money before I even have it in my hand on Ebay and Amazon buying DVDs and shirts... |

I suppose I'd be considered amongst the younger generation of Queen fans... (I'm 15. Indeed, I may well come across as too juvenile, but... 'tis jus the way I am...) With regards to the issue of what initially roused my interest in Queen: Although I was seemingly aware of the band throughout my life as far as my memory serves, I properly "discovered" the group when chancing upon the Top Of The Pops performance of "Killer Queen" being shown on TOTP2. I was literally glued to the screen for the ensuing three minutes (and, no... not just due to some serious Freddie-ogling!) and have basically been a devout fan ever since... Of course, it was the tediosity of the soulless Rap/Hip-Hop "music" (I use that term loosely) dominating the charts at that present time which encouraged me to diversify my tastes, in the first place. Though Brian and Roger whoring out the name of Queen to the latest pop sensations never managed to compel me to the point of wishing to explore their music any further, I'm afraid... |

I became a Queen fan around 4 years of age, which ironically, was the year when Freddie died. I remember all throughout nursery school & kindergarten, we'd all sing some weird variation of WWRY. I remember being extremely frightened by Bohemian Rhapsody, especially the operatic part. My dad vividly recalls me bugging him to buy me the Wembley cassette, CD and video tape. I also played the GH1&2 set in the gold packaging over and over when I'd play with my toys. So it comes as no surprise that I would undoubtedly become a pretty big Queen fan. I knew I always liked them, I just never realized it. It wasn't until last July when Wembley was being previewed on DirecTV that I got into Queen. I had to have EVERYTHING. Had to have every album, download everything, watch concerts, know about every detail of their lives I could and while this may seem a bit obsessive, I take it with a grain of salt. I know I'm a big fan and while I have periods where I won't listen to them as much (like right now), I will always love Queen. And... I'm 17. |

Time to tell my story, I guess... I remember being 3 or 4 years old listening to a song with a really deep bass line at a friend's house: of course, it was AOBTD; my friend's older brother was playing The Game LP. When he announced that the band's name was "Queen" we all laughed (the naïveté of youth, eh?). Fast forward to middle childhood. I was an obsessive sports fan then (only baseball now) and I actually had one of those ESPN "Jock Jams" cassettes. It was all music played at sporting events and it naturally had WWRY/WATC, which I loved to death. Then came the early teenage years, where it all fell into place. Rejecting most of the "trendy" music of my generation, I watched VH1 instead of MTV and listened to oldies stations instead of Top 40, where Queen was much easier to find. Aided by my friends who had the GHI&II set (and who made "backup copies," wink wink), I satisfied my Queen itch with two albums full of great songs. About a year later, I discover this site, buy a few more albums, start a short-lived Queen group on AOL (bah), and generally begin annoying all my peers with disserations on the genius of Mercury, May, Deacon, and Taylor. Like rhapsody, I celebrated my 17th year earlier this month by snagging Crown Jewels off eBay for $35. I am in waaaay deep now and there's no turning back...but there's no band I'd rather love more than Queen. :) |

I think it was the Wayne's World movie that got me into Queen (ha). My dad hates them too. My mom only likes to listen to the Jazz album......but at least we get to listen to that in the car instead of nothing. I'm lucky though because my friends like them a lot too. (and being only 14 yrs. that is rare.) |

Well I was born in 1988 so it wasn't after Freddie dies, but I am still young. Well I always liked WWRY, DSMN and Bohemian Rhapsody. The songs I knew. Once I was on the PC and DSMN came on the radio, and before I knew it I was dancing around my living room. Also one art lesson my teacher put on her Queen CD. I listened to it in awe and really loved their music. So I decided to ask mum for their greatest hits for xmas. I found myself listening to them every day. I had the CD's on endless repeat. I thrived for more; and my collection of albums grew. So did all my Queen stuff such as videos and DVD's. I have also plastered my bedroom wall with their pictures. As I find them an attractive band also ;) I have a Queen calendar which I also adore. I am so thankful for a band like this. It awoke my ears to the real music! As before I was in a state of confusion with the ditzy pop. Queen you are a legend! I only wish I was born earlier so I could have watched you grow in your glory and magnificence :( |

14 years old here. About to enter high school. Well, I guess you could say my dad got me into Queen, but they're not one of his favorte bands, he only owns one album, plus a Greatest Hits. One day I stole the GH and the next day, after listening to it, I was obsessed and needed more. Beginning of story. |

i vividly remember playing at my house whilst singing AOBTD, when i was about six or seven. my mum heard me and asked me how i knew that song, she was really shocked that i could have heard of it when i was a hit five, six years before i was born (she was soon to realise that i, unlike a lot of teenagers do not care how old something is or how 'uncool'). i have no idea where i heard it from because at that age i was only listening to what my parents were listening to and they do not like queen (don't ask me why, usually they have quite good taste in music really) i probably heard it from my older sister or something. fast forward a few years and i was on a school trip in russia at fifteen years old. of course i knew OF queen and the staple WWRY and champions, but never really felt compelled to listen to them, mainly because i was still istening to my parents records (who, as you remember do not like queen), having never really got into the (mostly) crap that is the music today. we were able to buy CD's in russia really cheaply, (im guessing illegal) and i was perusing through the racks not really knowing what i was looking for and then suddenly stopped dead as i saw a CD with THE most interesting looking guy i have ever seen on it. it was of course, our Freddie. i immedieately bought te CD, which turned out out to be freddie's solo work but which spurred me on to get every queen CD i could get my grubby little hands on. i haven't been the same since. |

I'm 19 and I saw BoRhap on a children's playback show & Saw the FM Tribute - both in 1992. Been a fan since, collecting since 1995/1996-ish. |

I got into Queen in 1992 when Wayne's World came out (that movie, literally changed my life for the better!). And then, in 1996, I got a tape player for my birthday, and my parents gave me a bunch of old cassettes, including the American version of Greatest Hits (it had Keep Yourself Alive on there). Sad to say, the tape was eaten long ago and my parents forced me to pitch it :-( But, my collection grew and now, I'm 17 and I am the BIGGEST Queen fan in my school, if not, my whole town. |

I'm 17 and became a Queenie when I was 11. My sister played me GH1 and it grew on me. I was very shy about my secret passion for years, but I bought the works a while later, I think I was 13. I still have a couple of albums to get, but I like that I still have music to discover. I feel really fortunate to be a Queen fan as they have given me a community (hugs to all you guys), a good ear for analysing music, and Freddie taught me to sing :) |
