As I find this Queen section is getting bored, I ask you youngers what do you feel when someone realises you love Queen and they have good words for you and for the band? I got so excited when my new teacher readed out loud what was written down on my shirt "We Will Rock You" and asked me if I went to London just to saw it. I answered yes and she told me: alright, you have an excelent taste, congratulations. :D!!! |
Josuè 27.05.2004 09:17 |
and, sorry, well, I ask this for young people as it's less normal to find someone young who has so admiration to this band (I think...) |

I always remember when I was a lad :D, When I had a day off from my paper round to go to the Freddie Tribute, I was 14, and my dad did my papers for me, and when he was asked where I was that day, He said Wembley Stadium watching Queen! Three people asked and they all thought it was great that I was a young lad following such a great band and not into all the dance shit! |
MexQueenFM 27.05.2004 12:58 |
Everyone seems to know them, but only some songs, i have to sing most of them to them so they know what a great band they are |
Lord Blackadder 27.05.2004 15:13 |
ye. my friend is into rap and the like but if i sing 'bicycle' just in the way of bicycle race he knows what I'm singing. and he knows who Brian and Freddie are by name. (don't know wether he knows Rog and John). Same with AOBTD. Just the little bass line and he knows it... Thats one good thing living in England, Queen rule here, always have and always will. It was only yesterday that I heard seven seas of Rhye and the radio in my Dad's car. Not a day goes by without seeing a Queen vid on T.v or hearing it on the radio... |

I mostly run into causal fans of Queen...most teens just dabble in classic rock because being retro is "cool" all of a sudden. Their knowledge of Queen is typical of most Americans...the "Big Five": Bo Rhap WWRY WATC AOBTD CLTCL (although many don't know that this is a Queen song!) A few know a little more, but alas, I am constantly required to spread the gospel. Fortunately, I'm beginning to win quite a few converts :) |

I hardly meet people who like Queen but I was very surprised when I talked to some guy from college about music a few weeks ago. It was the first time I talked to him about music and I always thought he was more into R'n'B, Hip Hop and all that but then he told me that he loves Queen more than any other band. The situation was funny cos it was on our college trip and we were both really drunk and as soon as we discovered our shared passion for Queen we went on and on about Freddie "...and the way he moved on stage... and Bohemian Rhapsody is pure art... and he was a genius...he's a god.... he changed the world...." etc etc :-) And the other day I talked to an English friend and asked him if he liked Queen and he said "Well... yeah they're alright.. after a couple of beers..." |

Like BornToBeKings said before, almost everyone knows the big five. Sure, they KNOW the songs but they don't know it was Queen playing these songs. It makes me mad. And it makes me mad that people feel it's cool now to be into classic rock. I've always been into classic rock and now I see these poseurs and it bothers me. You can't say you're into Queen unless you're nuts like the rest of us! :D Knowing Bohemian Rhapsody does not make one a Queen fan... just someone who likes playing the song on repeat. It bothers me that there's literally no quality left to music today and to get to the top, one must win on American Idol instead of starting out the REAL way. |

My mom thinks I'm crazy because it bugs me when people say Queen is one of their favorite bands and all they've heard is the Greatest Hits. Sure, the songs on the Greatest Hits albums are great, (excluding some of Greatest Hits III) but Queen had a lot of amazing songs that weren't hits... On the topic, (well, sort of on topic) I love when people just randomly sing Queen songs. Like in my Drama class on Tuesday, a few people were doing a scene about people on a roadtrip, and they started singing Bohemian Rhapsody. I never would've thought some of these snobby, annoying girls would know a Queen song other than WATC/WWRY (and a lot of people don't even know it's Queen singing these...) so it just goes to show how many people actually know the song! |

Once I was sitting in a caffe and they started to play Queen. One song after another. It was superb! :) |

I'm only 15 and in alberta canada, queen isn't all too big for people my age and where I live. it really sucks, I get told all the time that "queen sucks" I just say to them ok...name me 5 queen songs and I'll let you stick by that-they never can |

Well i'm 16 and have been into Queen and classic rock since i can remember, it all started when i discovered wembley '86 in the cupboard looking for a video and i listened to that over and over, and then i started buying more and more queen albums and listen to them everyday. But i try to get people my age into Queen by lending them albums or playing them when they are at my house, and my mission is to get EVERYONE away from this dance, techno, rap, hip hop and crap! |

Ive been into queen two years this summer and most people are surprised or say 'oh, why them?' and alot of them go, 'omg, youre kidding, why on earth...' but then some go, 'oh, cool!' cos im not a sad loony shadow who just buys chart music cos everyone else does. |
Music Man 29.07.2004 10:02 |
Most young people don't necessarily feel that it is 'cool' to be retro, today's music just doesn't do anything for them. It's human nature, when the present doesn't work, look back to find the future. |
♥Killer_Queen1946♥ 29.07.2004 11:33 |
I dont just like Queen cause its cool to be retro. I ablsolutely adore Queen. I like their 80's music, but mostly, I am obsessed with the 70's Queen. I practically know all the words. But i dont know ALL of them. I have Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night At The Opera, A Day at The Races, News of The World, Jazz, Live Killers, Greatest Hits, and Classic Queen. I'm saving to get Queen Live at Wembly '86. and yes, i think it is awesome when people say complimenting things about you when they hear you like queen. my language teacher, mrs. resler, when i wrote a report about queen( the assignment was to write about someone, dead or alive, you would like to spend the day with) and she gave me it back, and then she asked to see me after class, and wehn i did, she had pictures of Queen and some awesome albums! I was so shocked! then after, I loved that class. And the last day of school, I wore a bohemian rhapsody shirt, and when i walked by, alot of people started to sing 'galilao, galilao!'. It was quite comforting. I hope I get mrs resler this year too.And yes, I admit, when i was younger, evertime bohemian rhapsody came on, i didnt know the words, or even listen to it, i mumbled along with the chorus. oh, and this year, band is playing bohemian rhapsody for the concert!! it will be sold out!!! Freddie Mercury(also Larry Lurex) may you rock in peace! ta-ta |

Well, I'm 14 years old, and I live in Joppatowne, Maryland, in the United States of America. And I am a HUGE Queen fan...and I must say that at least around here, Queen is one of the most popular older groups amongst my school, and nearly all of my friends and acquaintances either have the "Greatest Hits 1-2" boxed set, love 'em or at least like Queen somewhat. So for me, it was sorta the opposite. I was the one who was wondering why Queen was so popular. We did a lip-synch project in Drama last year.....we would get up onstage and lip-synch to a song we chose.....one kid said, "I'm gonna do Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen!" And, sadly, I had no idea what the hell he was talking about...and then a girl in my class chose to do "Killer Queen" by Queen...I thought the only notable things they had ever done were "We Will Rock You," "We Are The Champions," "Another One Bites the Dust" and "that song Vanilla Ice ripped off." Curious, I got their greatest hits........now, I'm a Queenaholic. And nearly everyone in my school, from "preps" to "punks" to "goths" like them. Only Led Zeppelin rivals them when it comes to popularity of an older group (unless you count Nirvana, who has both beat). |

I don't think Lord Blackladder meant they are the one and only are even the most popular, just that they have a huge and ever-growing fanbase. |
