Yes exellent song.. and still so underrated.. :( and down played by critics.. I saw on finnish
I dont know what went wrong with Freddie's solo stuff.. when they didnt really manage to chart high enough..
Sicmot, I just listened to Freddie's solo album before all the way through without skipping anything and I have to say, it's a little diamond in the rough! Why didn't it do well? There's absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. In fact, it's one of my favorite albums to listen to because it's so upbeat and happy.
Guide Me Home, followed by How Can I Go On, is such a glorious, sweepingly grand piece of music. I adore it, and it still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it.
Amazing song!
Still, it could have been even better. I can't explain how, but there is something in that song that isn't perfect, something in the production.
Is anyone else here like me, in that you smile a bit when you hear John Deacon's little bass run towards the end?
It probably would have been inappropriate for Freddie to say : "Go Johnny, GO!" like he did so many times during Now I'm Here....But it was nice to hear Deacy....

I am SO with you on that! It is beautiful! :)

I NEVER noticed that! Ooh, a reason to go back and listen :D

I agree with you on THAT too! :P
My own view on the apparent bad chart positions on the all the Barcelona singles? title track aside.
For me the length of time between the 1st single & the album being released a whole year... so we all naturally had the album by the time the second single "the golden boy" was released & they was nothing new released as a b-side to entice us.... no left over tracks.
Not Freddies fault he put his heart & soul into the whole project, as well as recording stuff for "The Miracle" at the same time, so he was pacing himself very carefully.
My favourite track is "Guide Me Home" on the album. Yet I also love the "Guide Me Home & How Can I Go On" kind of medley on the Freddie box-set without Montserat with the different lyrics
I like Rachmaninov's Revenge, too, it just has Freddie's voice but a great preliminary.
My personal fav is the Fallen Priest, but the whole album just... made me speechless (almost didn't recognize the first time I heard). Not only the performance is great, but I also marvel at the level of the composition every time I listen to it.
The Barcelona album is definately loved by all (have you EVER met anyone who said they absolutely hated it??!!). Why not? It's fantastic! More than that! Freddie's solo stuff never did quite so well chart-wise I think because It's all completely different from Queen. Like, how many people payed attention to Brian's Starfleet project in the beginning? But, yes - FABULOUS album! Got me to respect opera and broaden my tastes in music!
