This is one of my favourite Queen ballads and it's incredibly difficult to sing. A great performance and a very welcome addition to the growing collection!
Harvey Goldsmith wrote: I must disagree with the previous poster, i think this is one of Queen's easiest songs to sing, it just goes to show some people can't sing.
Oh, stop being such an elitist prig. Forgive my snappy mood, but you don't get to decide who can and can't sing.
I'd love to hear some of these, but opening Adam's mp3 just about finished my seven-year-old computer off. I really ought to get a new computer.
It's ok for a demo. I get the feeling that it was kind of a one-take recording. I think that guy could do a way better version if he records the piano first and then compiles a vocal track (I mean, if he has some mistake, he repeats that part, etc). His voice is pretty good, so he can go much further if he wants to
The piano is a midi track? Really? Eeek.
EDIT: oops, I thought I was posting in another thread. It was pretty obvious that it was a simple midi piano sound on this one.
Peace,
Adam.
cheers mate. And thanx everyone for your lovely comments and emails! I'm currently in the process of recording an album. That song is one of my favourites. And is the only song on the album which is a cover!
A lot of people said it wasnt well sung, thanks for your comments.
I just thought i'd have a bash!!!
regards, steve
I managed to get on a different computer, and Steve, I love it. It's obvious that you love this song.
Accept my apology, Harvey, I think I misunderstood you.
I'd like to sumbit something to this, I have a good number of tapes available. But I have no good recording equipment and a shitty computer, I can't see myself trying to fit it there.
Now, now Miss America.
It's nice to see some people are decent enough to admit when they are mistaken, unlike some others i could mention, but i won't, they know who they are.
Harvey, relax, mate. You could have put that a little better in your first post. It sounded like you were saying that someone could not sing if they thought Dear Friends was a tough song. I happen to find it very tough, it's well outside my comfortable range. That's why I went off on you.
ok its not the hardest song to sing, but it damn sure aint the easiest!
and that midi was first sequenxed by my good friend toshiya, who has several midis at his disposal. And i asked him for permission first. So there you go.

BACK TO HUMANS!!!
Steve, it just means you don't churn out endless drivel and probably don't enter into perpetually pointless arguments which can't be resolved 'cause it's all about personal tastes and emotions!!! We're all guilty of it, but some more than others.
Of course, and before the hard core old timers jump on my back, there are members who contribute a lot of entertaining and/or imformative posts!! Long may they continue to do so!!
There, is that enough of an on the fence, hedge your bets, PC kinda answer?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not fighting for my perhaps undeserved share of fame, but I still belive that the miditrack that you have used was sequenced by me.
Note that Toshiya's own webpage does not include "Dear Friends" among his self-sequenced midis. link
If you look into that midi file via file-view you may find a line:
"PD feb20-21 1997"
If I was right I don't blame you nor Toshiya and you are wellcomed to have use that midifile.
If I was wrong, sorry.
