Vinou's song
| YourValentine 02.05.2004 15:42 |
Richard already posted it in the "news" section - how do you like Vinou's live rendition of "You Take My Breath Away" in the Stage Of Champions section? Needless to say that I am amazed... |
| Daburcor? 02.05.2004 15:44 |
Give me a bit to download and listen and I will let you know! :D |
| Daburcor? 02.05.2004 15:48 |
Listening to it now... WOW! The string section is a neat touch! This is great! By the way, Where is Vinou from? |

I quite like it. But some of the string arrangement wasn't not to my personal taste. It sounded erratic and timing issues here and there. But I think it was a pretty brave version. Very nice in places. Gave me a warm kind of feeling. Peace, Adam. |

wow! sounds really professional! and i agree with adam, it's a brave attempt and i find that it's been a winning choice; love it or hate it, but this bjork-ish version of ytmba is really classy. stand up for vinou! cheers! |
| Daburcor? 02.05.2004 17:21 |
"But I think it was a pretty brave version." That was what I liked about it! :D |
| ilizarov 02.05.2004 17:22 |
Very good indeed IMO. Certain bits of it sent a little tingle down my spine! I like the way its not a carbon-copy of the Queen version, in terms of the vocals, and the strings section. Very, very well done. |
| Virtuoso 02.05.2004 18:50 |
Very very very nice cover!!IMO the best yet. |
| Sicmot 02.05.2004 19:57 |
I like it.. the voice ranges from being partially harsh and raw.. but still has whole load of emotions and soft and kindness.. Edgy and softy.. and the echo.. great. Maybe the composition with the cello's and strings needs some rearranging. I could very well imagine to see vinou singing in musicals like WWRY. Keep on rehersing and it might one day be so. :) |
| Brandon 02.05.2004 22:45 |
One day???? I think Vinou's voice is superb. I'm with YV on this - oustanding! |
| ilizarov 03.05.2004 05:40 |
I agree...brilliant voice...Im surprised so few people have commented on this brilliant track. |
| FriedChicken 03.05.2004 06:42 |
It's great, although i have to agree with Adam on the arrangement of the string section |
| Hitman 03.05.2004 10:53 |
In My opinion this YTMBA is SUPERB!Congratulations Vinou, this is a very good cover!I like the voice, the arrangement (not 100% perfect but very well organized), the feeling. Excellent This Stage of champions is a great surprise....! PS: can someone tell me the EXACT address where we have to SEND the mp3 files for contributing? |
| sir vinou 03.05.2004 11:01 |
Thanx to everyone for you very nice words ...It s gonna help me to keep on working... and maybe offer you another "silly little number" in the future...I would like to thank YV for her special help... Cheers... |
| Sicmot 03.05.2004 12:42 |
Youre 42 !? so well preserved by the look ;) And your voice at first I thought it would be someone's who is like 14 or 18 the most.. so such a surprise :) |
| deleted user 03.05.2004 13:10 |
This is really amazing! A really fantastic version of one of Queen's most beautiful songs. I liked the use of strings and stuff on it. Sounds really professional. I give it 5/5 :) |
| Janet 03.05.2004 13:11 |
Really lovely! |
| Zonner 03.05.2004 13:19 |
Dreadful, i think i've just heard Freddie turning in his grave, shame on you for ruining one of the most beautiful songs ever written, some songs should never be tampered with, this is one of them. |
| Megamike The GREAT 03.05.2004 13:43 |
This was Awesome.. I LOVE IT.. brings a tear to my eye.. |
| Simmer 03.05.2004 15:25 |
Not bad... not bad at all. |
| Farlander 03.05.2004 16:15 |
I seem to think the opposite of some of you. I think the strings were very well arranged and a very interesting take on this song. But I found the vocals to be just not that good. Great quality recording, though. |
| Sebastian 04.05.2004 23:04 |
Wonderful arrangement, very creative and original. Awesome performance too |
| Bohardy 05.05.2004 08:51 |
I agree with all who complemented the professionalism of the recording and production as a whole, and also I agree that it's a brave arrangement and a nice one at that. Constructive critcism would be that there are a few 'timing issues', which I personally think are more down to the singer than the string players. It seems that at times Vinou is singing things too rubato, and therefore losing the beat somewhat. I also thought Vinou was a girl. Oops. Plus, as good a voice as Vinou has got, the foreign accent unfortunately grates a bit on my English ears. But all in all, VERY good. |
| Adam Baboolal 05.05.2004 09:15 |
"I also thought Vinou was a girl. Oops." I thought the same thing Bohardy! lol |
| YourValentine 05.05.2004 10:58 |
You should know that the song was performed live (November 24th, 2001 on a tribute show for Feddie in Paris), so minor timing errors are most natural for a non-professional singer. If you ever performed in front of an audience you know how hard it is to make no mistakes when you are not used to it. Actually, Steve, I cannot believe that you bring up the accent, I did not expect that from you. You should hear me speak English... |
| Daburcor? 05.05.2004 11:03 |
"If you ever performed in front of an audience you know how hard it is to make no mistakes when you are not used to it." That it is! Anyway, I like it even more now knowing it was for a tribute to Freddie! Great going Vinou! :D |
| Adam Baboolal 05.05.2004 11:33 |
So all those strings as well as piano and vocal were recorded live? Hmm... |
| YourValentine 05.05.2004 11:47 |
Yes, it was all live |
| Bohardy 05.05.2004 12:17 |
Oh, I understand Barb. As I said, all in all I was very impressed, and given that it was recorded live (which was pretty obvious given the applause at the end ;)) mistakes are fairly inevitable. I was only trying to be objective and give some constructive criticism. And I've got nothing against foreign accents when spoken; (I'm sure your accent is fine Barb - cut the modesty - and regardless, your command of the language is what matters, and you've certainly got that down a hell of a lot better than a lot of English people) indeed, in females it's generally incredibly sexy, but I can't help the sensation I get when I hear that hint of accent in songs such as Vinou's. Come on, think of a ballad type song you really love that's sung in German, and imagine it sung by someone English, in German. I bet you'd feel the same. |
| YourValentine 05.05.2004 13:06 |
"Come on, think of a ballad type song you really love that's sung in German, and imagine it sung by someone English, in German. I bet you'd feel the same" True but I would not admit it:)) |
| Adam Baboolal 05.05.2004 15:57 |
I certainly understand that thing about accents. I'm Scottish. Not a thick sounding accent, but I don't retain the accent when singing at all. I was recording this guy a couple of weeks ago and his pronunciation of "Sugar" and "Honey" were quite bad. It was like "shuuugah" and "Hun-eh." So I understand what you mean, Bo. Peace, Adam. |
| Daburcor? 05.05.2004 16:32 |
"It was like 'shuuugah' and 'Hun-eh'." LOL! |
| Sicmot 06.05.2004 00:24 |
Yes, stop critisizing it.. It's bloody good work.. I have enormous respect for this work.. It wasnt freddie, yes.. but to my ears.. it was something even better!!! (than freddie's version which was too balanced..?, I dont know.. I just like this one..) Something even dear Freddie couldnt have reached with his imagination and artistic. The voice.. Its just something.. |
| iGSM 06.05.2004 08:08 |
GASP! Blasphemy! *throws Holy Waters on Sicmot* Oh, wait..that was acid. |
| iron eagle 06.05.2004 21:53 |
Wonderful i quite enjoyed it |
| cthorb1 08.05.2004 20:32 |
It wasnt freddie, yes.. but to my ears.. it was something even better!!!Have to confess, I did let out an audiable *gasp* upon reading that. Better than Freddie, well I never!... Anyway, yes, a really great cover IMO. |
| Sicmot 08.05.2004 22:48 |
cthorb1 wrote:Better.. than the perfect?.. yes in a way it was.. since there's no way freddie can do any remixes anymore.. for the obvious reason.. so vinous version was something very lively.. something various.. something.. from this age..It wasnt freddie, yes.. but to my ears.. it was something even better!!!Have to confess, I did let out an audiable *gasp* upon reading that. Better than Freddie, well I never!... Anyway, yes, a really great cover IMO. |
| Mr Coolest Cat 09.05.2004 08:26 |

| suckerpunch 09.05.2004 19:29 |

| Sicmot 10.05.2004 11:05 |
WTF!?.. Vinou is man.. may his voice sound female.. he's still male.. what makes it even more exiting.. |
| Mr Coolest Cat 10.05.2004 13:57 |
Its seems some people don't know if it's male or female, i thought it was a strangled cat.......lol |
| YourValentine 10.05.2004 14:39 |
Well, at least your stupid comment will result in nobody taking your words seriously anymore. |
| ~Silje~ 10.05.2004 14:52 |
It was wonderful, really, really wonderful. *is in awe* |
| stevelondon22 10.05.2004 19:26 |
harvey should be banned from here, all he does is criticise other peoples efforts. Yet he hasn't a song to offer us has he??? Silly man While we're at it, have a look at my song which has just been added to the STAGE OF CHAMPIONS and post a message in the NEW SONG ADDED section on this board. let me know what ya think, thanx From steve |
| suckerpunch 11.05.2004 08:15 |
eek it's a geezer signing, no offence didnt sound like one, but having listened a few times, certainly some timing issues, i presume he wasnt playing the piano/keys? that may explain the timing probs |
| Mr Coolest Cat 11.05.2004 09:24 |
I don't give 2 shits what people think off my opinion, as i'm sure you don't either(Your Valentine), because some of the rubbish you come out with, Sie sollten mit dem Rest der whingers oben verriegelt werden. |
