I can't say that I've ever heard the phrase 'Action This Day' used outside of the rancid excuse for a Queen song, so I wouldn't say it was a common phrase.
I am just computer illiterate enough to not know how to put the link in this message, but more info can be found at:
horseracing.about.com/library/bltc-actionthisday.htm
Hope it works. At any rate, I think if you go to ABOUT.COM and look up horse racing you should be able to find the info. If nothing else, do a GOOGLE search.
Winston Churchill signed all of his letters to the people with whom he worked with "Action This Day" as a way to encourage decisiveness and leadership.
Oh wow... who would have guessed Winston Chruchill himeslf was a Queen fan o_0
Especially considering the group formed over five years after his death...
Bollocks.
Ok, I know nothing about anything, although the fact that Winston Churchill (famously?) used the expression 'Action this day' doesn't mean it's a common phrase, which I still maintain it isn't.

*will be visiting KY in August*...sorry, just wanted to get that out. ;^)
There's a beautiful beautiful picture of Action This Day in the New York Post. Simply beautiful. I stared at it for 5 minutes and I want him to win like right now.
"Update: so much for Action This Day..."
He came in 6th! And he had one of the worst odds haha... but the horse that I figured was going to win, Smarty Jones, won. Yay! I secretly wanted the horse that was blind in one eye to win. How sad! :-(
There sure are a lot of Kentuckians on this board(I'm from Richmond,KY).Out of all the U.S. posters on this noticeboard,I wonder which state has the most....Kentucky's got to be right up there. It's good to know there are so many Queen fans all aorund me.
I'm from Central Jersey... does that count for anything?
Unwritten law says us New Jerseyans cannot call it "New Jersey" -- it just doesn't sound right. :)
