New Queen Compilation
| Voice of Reason 2018 26.04.2004 08:37 |
It's true, I'm afraid. The new Fan Club magazine says that the Platinum Collection has been withdrawn and a new compilation will be released before the end of the year. I guess EMI have decided that Queen are ready to move into the 'Best of' category. I expect a 20 track 'Best of' for Christmas. What do you guys think? |
| Oberon 26.04.2004 09:05 |
It's a bit of a step too far isn't it. I can't believe this is Brian or Roger making these decisions - must be EMI "making them" agree, if EMI need their agreement? Well, we'll have to wait and see what's on the new compilation to judge it fairly I suppose. >> Added previously as a New Topic by mistake! |
| Fenderek 26.04.2004 09:12 |
So it will be "Some songs that didn't appear on Greatest Hits 1, 2 & 3"... Great.... |
| The Mir@cle 26.04.2004 10:14 |
Maybe including "Say It Isn't True" or something?? I don't know Brian and Roger have the righst to release these songs, because they were part of the 46664 thing. |
| Maz 26.04.2004 10:30 |
Why wouldn't they have the right? They wrote it, plus they helped organize the event. I'm sure they can do whatever they want with those tracks, but knowing how they are (and how rich they are) they would probably donate any money to 46664 regardless if a song was released on one of their compilations. A "Best Of" that would include 46664 tracks sounds logical, albeit scraping the barrel. The studio versions of 46664 stuff was supposed to happen this June, but I haven't heard any further word on it lately. |

1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Killer Queen 3. I Want To Break Free (Single Mix) 4. Radio Ga Ga 5. Bicycle Race 6. Innuendo 7. I Want It All (Single Edit) 8. A Kind Of Magic 9. You're My Best Friend 10. Heaven For Everyone 11. Who Wants To Live Forever (Edit) 12. Somebody To Love 13. Don't Stop Me Now 14. Flash (Edit) 15. Breakthru 16. Under Pressure 17. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 18. The Show Must Go On 19. We Will Rock You 20. We Are The Champions ----- Probably around 80 minutes long. Slightly edit all the tracks like they did on Greatest Hits 2 and there you go. I bet 80% of the stuff on my tracklist will be on the final compilation. |
| Fenderek 26.04.2004 13:28 |
And the title will be "You Had It Already On Greatest Hits I, II & III, But We Think There's Still Some Money To Be Earned" |
| Shane Jazz 26.04.2004 14:07 |
Or, to quote from Flick of the Wrist, they could name another compilation "Baby, You've Been Had". |
| Fenderek 26.04.2004 14:08 |
It's a rip off... Just another quote...:) |
| Pim Derks 26.04.2004 15:07 |
or "Songs From and Inspired by "WE WILL ROCK YOU" the musical by Queen and Ben Elton". |
| Daz85 26.04.2004 16:17 |
I don't think it will be a 'best of', since the Platinum Collection (while deleted) will still likely be widely available at Christmas. I personally think it might be the 'Ballads' idea that popped up a while back. |

Sounds like what Brian said on the Virgin interview was true. They're pulling the Platinum collection because it becomes "one-dimensional after a while. You know, you hear the same things, you know. And actually there are a lot of hidden treasures on those, those er, particularly the middle-period albums." Basically hoping that people will get into the older albums. Fair enough. But this new release is old and new stuff. Things that the casual fan and outsider wouldn't otherwise hear without seeking out the original albums. I have no problem with this as it's obviously not for fans like us. Peace, Adam. |
| Flashman 26.04.2004 17:27 |
I'll be buying it anyway. But then, I have far more money than sense. |
| rhapsody__87 26.04.2004 17:31 |
Sounds about right, Flashy... I'll probably wind up buying it just to say I have it and to deplete money from my zero-income wallet. |

Whooo Hoo another Compilation album, I cant wait. Brian said he wanted people to get into the real albums, but by releasing The Best of Queen its still gonna contain a lot of the stuff that was on the Greatest Hits albums. Don't get me wrong a 'Best of Queen' two CD set (similar in design to Best Of Bowie) would be a good album. The benefit of a 'Best Of' collection is that you dont necessarily have to include all the singles, and the 'best' album tracks could also be used. However something like this should be released after all the DVD's, the boxsets and any potential new album as there are potential hits/songs that could feature on it in the future. What other compilation could they release; Queen ballads, Queen Disco'd....the list is endless. |

Only half right. Brian did state that Platinum will be withdrawn soon, but the whole idea was to get folks more interested in the original albums. Adding a new complilation would make that idea redundant. So I don't believe there will be a new compilation. That said, I've always thought it would be cool to have a maximum capacity single disc compilation like the Elvis or Beatles discs which run close to 80 mins. And perhaps this is why Greg is interested in my edits. I sent him a disc a couple weeks ago. Ugh, I would really prefer they hired me to actually do them rather than recreating mine. Nobody else will be able to get them just right. ;) |
| Daz85 27.04.2004 04:39 |
Uh oh.... Darren had a preminition last night... In this vision he saw that Brian wants people to get back to the original albums... ...'Rocks' has already gone... ...but the Platinum Collection stands in his way... ...EMI unwilling to sacrifice one of it's continuingly well-selling selling albums... ...so a compromise is made by issuing a 1-disc 'best of the 3' album for X-mas... ??? |
| Voice of Reason 2018 27.04.2004 05:05 |
Which brings us nicely back to my original prediction... But that Queen Disco suggestion. Yes, a CD of Queen dance classics with a bonus CD of all 16 mixes of You Don't Fool Me... |
| Daz85 27.04.2004 07:05 |
Actually, Hollywood Records had plans to put out a disco set in the early 90s, which why some of the 12" mixes never appeared on the re-released albums - why it never happened though is another great Queen mistery :-P |
| 7Innuendo7 27.04.2004 12:24 |
call this a wish list... 1) Stone Cold Crazy (1992 FM Tribute) 2) You Don't Fool Me (1995 MIH album version) 3) Tie Your Mother Down (1982 WWRY movie) 4) Innuendo (1992 FM Tribute) 5) Say It Isn't True (46664) 6) Flash (Vanguard Mix) 7) Machines (1984 b-side American Remix) 8) Another One Bites the Dust (1982 WWRY movie) 9) Amandla (46664) 10) The Call (46664) 11) [Fight From the Inside 2004] [Nation of Haircuts/ Queen 2004] 12) I'm In Love with My Car (1982 WWRY movie) 13) Somebody to Love (Earl's Court 1977) 14) Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Japan 1982) 15) Under Pressure (1986 LAWS) 16) We Will Rock You (2001 RnR Hof w/Foos) 17) The SHow Must Go On (1992 FM Tribute) |
| Pim Derks 27.04.2004 13:16 |
thats got to be one of the strangest tracklists I've ever seen. Live tracks, (instrumental) remixes, retakes etc, all in random order.... |
| RMT 27.04.2004 13:17 |
Eclectic is certainly the word! |
| Lester Burnham 27.04.2004 14:04 |
I'd go with crappy. |
| Adam Baboolal 27.04.2004 14:41 |
Eeeek! |
| teddybear 27.04.2004 18:23 |
All I can say is Ohhhhhhhhh Nooooooooooooo !!!!! Lets just hope it does not have another version of WWRY on it sung by somebody else? Hey now there's an idea - release a WHOLE album of WWRY !! All the different versions with different people singing it (Robbie, John Farhman, and such)? ROFL LOL Bring me a straight jacket !!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) |
| Kuku 28.04.2004 02:13 |
Hahaha Teddybear! If this compilation includes 46664, or any new things, I'd want to buy it... otherwise I'm fine with the albums (goes away to hug the CDs). |
| 7Innuendo7 28.04.2004 12:28 |
Aw gosh...thanks for noticing...I just realized there's no such thing as WWRY w/Foos... Maybe more like BBC 1977 0r "It's Late" BBC crappy? I take that to mean you consider yourself a piece of toilet paper, pathetic earthling! |
