For those who read the recent Mojo magazine article. Can't blame the guy, that band really sucks. |
pma 19.04.2004 02:44 |
Yes, you can blame the guy. Lynyrd Skynyrd (RVZ era) were brilliant. LS>RMT. Now, care to tell what did he say about them in the magazine? and why did they even interview a hasbeen like the drummer from Duran Duran (that just simply doesn't make sense):-P |
Daburcor? 19.04.2004 03:12 |
LOL! |
Richard Orchard 19.04.2004 03:57 |
Duran Duran rock - that is why they interviewed him. |
Daburcor? 19.04.2004 04:03 |
Hey Richard, Great pic of you and Brian! |
RMT 19.04.2004 04:23 |
Duran Duran are doing some gigs in Birmingham the next few days, I wanted to go but I had nobody to go with and I'm saving money! |
siljeoen 19.04.2004 05:31 |
Yeah,I read that.-Good 'ol Roger!!:P |
Fenderek 19.04.2004 08:17 |
I laughed my ass off reading Roger's comment in MOJO- great article, actually... |
Mr.Jingles 19.04.2004 08:29 |
Duran Duran is great, and they prooved to be more than just an 80s teen pop sensation. Lynard Skynard on the other hand are nothing but a bunch of rednecks who carry their stupid confederate flag like if it was something to be proud of. |
pma 19.04.2004 08:32 |
"Lynard Skynard on the other hand are nothing but a bunch of rednecks who carry their stupid confederate flag like if it was something to be proud of." Wow, that just tells that you must really be an expert when it comes to the band and its musical offerings and know what you are talking about (as usual). |
iGSM 19.04.2004 09:44 |
I don't mind Lynyrd Skynyrd..but I do think that a couple of them made a couple of bad choices...especially choosing flights. Mm, I think I might have said that in bad taste. |
Maz 19.04.2004 10:34 |
Ah, never mind. PMA said what needs to be said. |
Mr. Farenheit 19.04.2004 10:40 |
They spell it Lynyrd Skynyrd. They were a great band from the 70's....one of America's best. A great, great, live band. One of the best. They had 3 great albums....and 2 not so great albums. They only got to record for 4 years....and then the crash. The last album...released about a week before the crash...was maybe their best. I don't know what Roger said.....but if he said that...he's wrong about it. That's ok.....we can all be wrong once in awhile. |
iGSM 19.04.2004 10:56 |
Especially in the fashion sense! *wears blue and green!* |
Brian_Mays_Wig 19.04.2004 11:49 |
Freebird has got to be one of the all time greatest driving songs ever!! Its a classic. |
Mr.Jingles 19.04.2004 13:59 |
Roger is the man. He shouldn't regret one word he said. |
Saint Jiub 19.04.2004 14:04 |
Gimme Three Steps and Sweet Home Alabama are good songs too ... |
Pluto 19.04.2004 16:00 |
i dont bnot like them but i dont like them if that made any sence at all btw what did roger say |
7Innuendo7 19.04.2004 17:16 |
Anyone who flies the Confederate flag endorses genocide in my opinion. Neil Young got it right with "Southern Man" I saw LS open for ZZ Top in 1999 and what a darn shame they're still allowed to tour. They're almost as enlightened as Ted Nugent-- another racist. we gotta stop those godda** f****** NAZIS |
cthorb1 19.04.2004 17:34 |
oh yeah... I read that lol! Very funny... |
Into La Ment 19.04.2004 17:41 |
btw what did roger sayHaving nothing better to do, I thought I'd type the relevent section of the article out for you... 'Pairing the then silk-pinioned, brutally feminine Queen with the manfully bearded types of Lynyrd Skynard was not an obvious coupling. But Queen played four shows as alternating headliners with Lynyrd Skynard in Germany in 1971. Taylor remembers it well. "What were they like? They were awful. They were Southern red-necks and they could not believe it when they saw us four caked in make-up and dressed like women. They were outraged, confused and a little frightened, because the four nancy boys were giving them quite a run for their money on-stage. In fact, there were actually people from their record company who would stand in the audience holding up banners that said things like, 'Shit!', 'Queen suck!' Things could be unbelievably petty back then- they paid people to heckle us! God, Lynyrd Skynard. They were arseholes, frankly. When they played that song 'Freebird' it seemed to go on for months. As I remember, they had three lead guitarists. Hmmm (bristling with obvious pride), well, we only seemed to need one. Absolute arseholes. Later on they had that terrible fatal plane crash, didn't they? Shouldn't speak ill of the dead... bollocks to that" ' Voila. Somehow I gather Rog isn't too keen on Lynyrd Skynard... |
pma 19.04.2004 17:57 |
Well, Roger certainly doesn't seem like your nice man next-door either. Quite lame, if that was really it. I was already waiting for someone to suggest Skynyrd to be a racist act in this thread. Took surprisingly long to have a comment like that. I'm almost disappointed :P |
cthorb1 19.04.2004 18:12 |
Meh... 'Freebird' does seem to go on forever, IMO. |
cthorb1 19.04.2004 18:44 |
Well, Roger certainly doesn't seem like your nice man next-door either.Funny thing is, Rog lives next door to God. Well, a 12th century church, anyway (but in Roger's own words (again, taken from Mojo magazine) "I think God moved out when I moved in.") |
Mr. Farenheit 19.04.2004 18:45 |
Well....Skynyrd did not release their first album until 1972...and did not start touring the big time until after that...so Roger must have been drunk at the time. In fact....on some of the Queen concert sites...I only see one instance of them playing together. Its ok to not like their music. But to generalize and throw around terms like "genocide, rednecks, racisim, nazis" is just as bad as people who hear Queen and say "fags." First, it makes you look like a moron for saying it, and secondly, its not true. Neil Young admired Skynyrd for the humor and irony of Sweet Home Alabama (which seems to have gone over the head of some people around here)....and Skynyrd loved his music. It was a joke....get it? You will find no racism in any of Skynyrds music...quite the contrary. I can see the Skynyrd boys being a little ruffled when they saw Queen in the 70's....a lot of people were. In fact the first image that comes to my mind..is Brian and those puffy shirts. Of course, it doesnt matter...they still rocked....and so did Skynyrd. Yea...Freebird goes on forever...a lot of people would say the same thing about Bohemian Rhapsody...or many other Queen songs. They were very different bands....from a different time...a better time...as far as live music is concerned. And they both rocked. |
Mr.Jingles 19.04.2004 19:35 |
I totally agree with 7Innuendo7, many could say that the confederate flag represents 'Southern Pride', and that's their excuse to still flying it, but more than just 'pride', it also represents racism, segregation & bigotry. I can't believe that this flag is still being proudly waved in many southern states. To me that's just about as bad as if Germans were still flying the Third Reich flag. Don't even mention Ted Nuggent to me. That guy deserves to be shot with each and every gun & rifle he owns. |
Holly2003 19.04.2004 20:31 |
Agreed, Ted Nugent is a twat. And Skynnrd are over-rated hillbilly banjo players. I await Brandon's wrath :) |
Pluto 19.04.2004 21:29 |
thank you poodle_permed that is kind of how i feel about them to sahme my brother likes them so much |
Bob The Shrek 19.04.2004 21:39 |
I like Lynyrd Skynyrd - easy listening. "I totally agree with 7Innuendo7, many could say that the confederate flag represents 'Southern Pride', and that's their excuse to still flying it, but more than just 'pride', it also represents racism, segregation & bigotry." Does that mean the Japanese flag represents: genocide, forced marches, torture of prisoners, suicide attacks? |
Mr.Jingles 19.04.2004 22:03 |
The Japanese flag existed long before Hirohito's empire decided to invade and take over every single nation on the eastern part of Asia. The confederate flag on the other hand was created during the civil war as a symbol of the states which refused to abolish slavery. |
Richard Orchard 19.04.2004 23:02 |
Is anyone able to transcribe the whole interview? It would be great to put it on the site. Richard |
dragonzflame 20.04.2004 05:20 |
The Texas Chainsaw Massare remake ruined everything about Lynyrd Skynyrd for me. I used to really enjoy SHA (hehe, it's the same acronym as Queen stuff) but I can't hear it anymore without a shudder. Kind of like how Rules of Attraction ruined Living Without You (or whatever the song was called). |
Brandon 20.04.2004 09:56 |
First of all, let me say I find Lynyrd Skynyrd to be one of the premiere bands to come out of the south ever. Songs such as "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe," "Simple Man," and of course "Free Bird" are absolute classics. Now, your like or dislike of a musician or band is your opinion and you are fully entitled to it. However, when you label a band rascist with no other evidence than the fact that they are from the south and wave a rebel flag... well, that is just plain ignorance on your behalf. And don't get me wrong, I don't nor have I ever owned confederate flag. As a matter of fact, I think that that flag causes a lot of undo unrest down here. However, that does not make everyone who waves it racist. And Ted Nugent is out of his mind, not racist. And Brian/ Holly, what is wrong with being a banjo-playing hillbilly? That's a fine profession that has served my mom and dad (also my aunt and uncle) well for years... PS: The "new" Skynyrd kinda suck... |
Into La Ment 20.04.2004 13:58 |
thank you poodle_permedNo problem ^_^ |
