Rumours abound that he was actually born in God's own county of Yorkshire ....
... so when they were looking to re-name the former RAF Finningley in its new capacity as a major airport, they decided to call it *deep breath*
Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield International Airport!!!
Doesn't exactly trip off the tongue like LAX, does it?
Hmmm. But surely Robin Hood is more commonly associated with Nottingham?
And to add to the confusion, East Midlands international ariport, which is supposed to be Nottingham's airport, is actually nearer Loughborough, in Leicester.
If they must insist on naming Sheffield-Doncaster international after a famous person (apparently its the same people responsible for 'John Lennon Liverpool international airport')then perhaps it would have been wiser to name it after a famous person that is actually from Sheffield or Doncaster such as... erm... Sean Bean? Joe Elliot? Kevin Keegan? The Chuckle Brothers? Help me out here.
