I've got 2 Barnes and Noble gift cards I'm gonna use soon and I want a good book reccomendation. I've already decided to get Jackson Browne's latest CD hit collection and this really cool sounding book called "Lies My Teacher Never Told Me."
This leaves about $7-8 for another book so please any good classic or sorta current book would be appreciated.
Well, After thinking a bit, I will recommend most ANYTHING by Roald Dahl (yes, I know they are mainly kids books, but I love them), and The Hobbit (I am currently half through it, And really think I should stop trying to 'streach it out' as I've had it since Christmas). Also, I really enjoy the book "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a 'B' Movie Actor" by Bruce Campbell. VERY funny! Also, Some Stephen King books are good. Pet Semetary being my fave of the lot. ;p
Stephen King's great. And Dan, you're right - Pet Sematary is the best one.
But if I had to recommend one book right now, it would be "Silas Marner" by George Eliot.
NO DON'T SHOOT!!! It's actually good. I hated it the first time I read it and then the second time around decided it was actually pretty good. And the TV movie with Ben Kingsley wasn't bad either.

Yay to Silas Marner! In where I live there are classic editions called Wordworth. (not the poet). Only ~$2US a book! Anything George Eliot is good... especially Middle March.
Argh! Not Silas Marner! Memories of GCSE! Its not a bad book though!...

"Cause Celeb" by Helen Fielding - quite humorous.
"The Awakening & other short stories" by Kate Chopin - interesting stories.
"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee - just cos it's the best book ever. ;^)

I sound repetitive, but wow! What a good list, Miss James.
GCSEs are the exams everyone in the UK takes at the age of 16 as the finale to compulsory schooling.
It stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education.
Hmm... I would suggest:
The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Doskeyvsky (I love Alyosha!!)
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
1984 by George Orwell
and I second To Kill a Mockingbird

Okay...no more questions, as I think I can guess how a book would relate to an exam.
'Explaining Hitler' by Ron Rosenbaum.
If you're interested in this area. I'm currently reading this book, I'm planning on doing a dissertation next year about the Nazi's and Third Reich.
I recently finished reading 'What is History' by E.H Carr. I found this book interesting. Not a very big book, didn't take long to read.
Or 'Have A Nice Day', the autobiography of wrestling legend Mick Foley!
I have just finished reading a book by the drummer of Rush, Neil Peart, called Ghost Rider. It is a compelling journal of his life after losing his daughter in a car crash, his wife to cancer and how he embarks on a 55,000 miles motorcycle journey to find a reason to carry on living.
He records his adventures, his setbacks and the pain of constantly reliving the loss of his family. He writes of the places he visits, the family and friends who help him on the journey along what he calls 'the healing road'.
I will as soon as I can catch this moth that is trying to use my fucking fat torso as a pillow - the little bastard is annoying the shit out of me.
Is that better?
