I LOVE hockey, and this is a fantastic time of year for me.
My team is (and always has been) the Philadelphia Flyers. And I HATE the Red Wings with a passion. I know, your wondering what I'm talking about being from Michigan and all, but they have been nothing but a bunch of cry babies for years, and almost ever sing person on that team is either a cheap shot artist or a insufferable idiot.
Who do you guys like and dislike?
Uh, seriously, hockey is ok. I had season tickets for the Michigan Tech Huskies (college team) back in the 85-86 season. I don't follow hockey much anymore, but I preferred college hockey at the time. There seems to be more skating in college, and fewer pile ups in the corner or scrums behind the net that seems to happen all to frequently in NHL hockey.
I much prefer basketball or American football, but hockey is certainly better than that American snoozetime otherwise known as baseball.
Matt, Do the Red Wings still have the unofficial Dead Wings nickname (from many years ago)?
Yes Bull, they are still the dead wings LOL!
I didn't know there were so many people from Michigan on this board! Nice to know :)
I prefer football myself, but hockey playoffs help. Anything is better than baseball. Almost.
I know nothing of professional hockey...
In fact the only thing I know about hockey is how to play.
oh and that I pass the San Jose arena every day... er...go sharks?
Aww, Matt, just sounds like sour grapes from someone who hasn't gotten over getting swept by the Wings in the '97 Cup finals;-)
Yzerman, Hull, Shanahan, et al cheap shot artists? Oh, puhleeze. Class players in a class organization.
1 million+ fans downtown for each of their last three Cup parades, in a sea of red and white, shows that the 'whiners' love their hockey.
Some cry more than others, but you'd hear the same from the other hockey hotbeds (Philly fans included), simply because most are knowledgeable and care deeply about their teams.
College hockey is perhaps the best 'live' sport. Because there is no two line offside, the flow of the game is better. The repurcutions for fighting are more severe (1 game automatic suspension), though I've seen a few donneybrooks involving MSU, UM, and Western Michigan.
j+III
Last night, I can't believe the Bruins won in double overtime. The only reason they had that breakaway and scored is because the Montreal guy in control of the puck was slashed in the wrists first, and couldn't even hold his stick properly.
That pisses me right off.
Speaking of the whistle being swallowed... this was not the case in the Toronto/Ottawa game tonight. I couldn't count all the penalties in the first period alone!
I'm damn disappointed with TO's performance tonight. They looked much like they did in game 1.
I learned hockey from having Bobby Orr as a neighbor and Wayne Cashman being part of our extended family....
that being said the BRUINS rock!
there was that time too on national television where my uncle and father were heating up peanuts and chucking them at schultz every time he skated by during a flyers and bruins game in philly---
the fight was great..........
