If you listen to the earlyer Queen Albums which were recorded in Analog and remastered for the new Japanese CDs they sound so much better than the Queen Albums which were recorded in Digital, ie the Miracle Innuendo and Made In Heaven .
Does this mean Digital Recording is better than Analog ? or is it because when Queen used Digital it was only a new technology and was'nt that good but todays Digital would sound as good if not better than Analog ?
Brian said himself, recently, that digital recording is at a very good point now. I agree. However, the earlier digital wasn't as great and the Japanese remasters 84' onwards don't sound that great. Mind you, that's because of the recent remasterings. Not the recordings themselves.
From what people like Rien and DeaconFan have let us listen to, it's like a hole has been carved in the midrange. We had quite a discussion about this not too long ago. Seek it out and have a read.
The original releases from 1993/4 are much better and truer to the original recordings. Judge by those. I took albums from Works up to Innuendo and applied some gentle warmth. It works very well. Unfortunately, I don't think JSS was thinking about that when he remembered the way they were recorded. Missed opportunity and flawed discs.
The point I should make is that before the JapRemasters, I only had issues with Miracle, Innuendo, Magic and Works. But there wasn't much to dislike. And with the new remasters has come a mixed bag. I've mentioned this before, older albums sound great - try out those. Those 2001 remasters sound very good. But ignore the other 2001 remaster albums afterwards, e.g. Works onwards. Not worth it. Bad changes.
Peace,
Adam.
Analog rules man I gotta soundcast in the studio where I work and we produce some real hot raw tracks out of it!
while my mates pro tools and cubases sucks!!!!!
its a indy and hippy paradise but yo! am old skool and a guitar should sound like a guitar! not some dreamed up sweepy ting!!
yo! this topic is gettin me started but analog is a more complex and hands on of a an equipment
while digital is more button, mouse, and touch screen shite! which makes weird sound without all the necessary working out and studio madness!
I think Analog is beeter and yeah in Queen albums it shows big time where they are using digital... and also in ealry albums where they go to other studios and use such parrasites!
yo I like your signature sentence!
"beatle were the first Queen"
neva have I seen it like that and never will I ever see it like that but hey its your opinion and I think it rocks!! yay!!
Bit unfair that, Az. Analog and digital aren't so equal anymore. If you hate computers, get someone else to do it for you. Or invest in a proper analog AND digital machine-mix.
Nothing wrong with either system. But to slag another off because you can't get your head round it? Digital can sound analog if you know what you're doing. So, I like digital more because of the huge number of options.
So my answer is that both are very good. However, digital is sounding better than ever. Analog is still good. But like I said before, digital just allows for more control. It really depends what you want from the sound.
Peace,
Adam.
EDIT: I record digitally on a machine that has very friendly controls. I stopped using a computer for that, not out of choice. But it's just like any other analog machine.
The content here was very interesting to read, I definitely got to know a lot about analog recording. I was looking for some content about SEO training and I stumbled upon this post. The information was new for me to read.
