Hi, Anyone have any ideas for Queenzone? That is, ways to encourage more Queen fans to visit, improving the user experience? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Richard |

I don't have any ideas as of yet but I can still see the old setup on the Notice Board and I don't know why! I have a link to it saved in my favorite places and it hasn't changed. However, if I type in the website and then go to the Notice Board, it's the new setup. But I like the old setup, so it's okay. :-) |
Richard Orchard 04.04.2004 11:20 |
the old notice board is still there if people want to use it. If you bookmark it, you can still access it. |

No 'Stickys'. No 'Smileys'. No Quoting other folk without prior permission. I have copyright on my genius, people. It's chargable. No Moderators - sad, lowly folk. No mental patients. It's a big ask. |
Mayboy 04.04.2004 11:38 |
No Sticky's Flashy? thats not like u ;) btw ppl if u want to use the old board : - link |

I think we should have smilies. The ability to send personal messages. Avatars; they brighten the place up, and a are wicked. they are also a way of refelcting the posters personality. I hate this font. We should have the choice to change the style. |
Mayboy 04.04.2004 11:51 |
ooohhhh your in for it now Robyn ;) hehe |

Font? Who cares? How about something functional? Like a search function. |

I vote no smilies or avatars. Being able to send priv messages could be nice, though. Then again, people can also abuse this function, so... |

Miss James wrote: I vote no smilies or avatars. Being able to send priv messages could be nice, though. Then again, people can also abuse this function, so...No but avatars as I said reflect people personality and help people remember who the person is, makes them unique, as long as they don't keep changing the avatar. Smilies are also a good way of emphasizing the mood....say someone is making a sarky comment or summit, it's an easy way to express that. There are PM's at QOL and I have never recieved abuse in Private massages. And I am asking for it! |

I can learn about somebody's personality just fine without seeing an avatar. I read their posts - I don't look at a picture to find out who they are. As for smilies, I can type them out just as well, too. But I am not in charge here, so what I say may have no effect whatsoever. |

I didn't really mean ideas for the notice board, more really ideas for the site in general. What sort of things would a queen fan visit a site for? The notice board is part of it, but are there any other things? |

- a poll - a quiz/contest - updated biography (who would like to help?) - FAQ or/and allowing people to submit questions like it used to be - any kind of downloadable material (wallpaper etc) - any kind of information (articles, interviews, lyrics, discography etc) most answers here concern the notice board because most posters come because of the notice board in the first place. It's obvious that the new notice board does not yet work properly, so we might give Richard a chance to have the bugs sorted out. I miss the registration date, search function, edit function (very badly), and the Royalty title, I think I earned it :-) I am not in favour of the notice board topics popping up on the front page, it looks a bit weird when you read: Hot Topics: Jesus is gay LMFAO etc Before this starts to look negative : I am really happy about the revival of the event page and the news letter, the improved chat room, the Bittorrent project and most of all the "Stage Of Champions" project. |

I think I'm posting this for the third time... I don't know if this is fixed: When I try to edit my reply to someone's thread, it doesn't work. It keeps telling me to log on, and when I log on, it gives me a blank page. I really think there should be a link to log on page in the menu. I always end up going back to the old page and log on. A while ago I found that article submission function doesn't work. I wonder if that's fixed now. Other than that, it's all fine. I really like different projects going on. Oh! Yes, to minimize the frequency of annoying questions plaguing the board, the site maybe should have something akin to: Freddie and AIDs - everything you ever wanted to know - same with where John is. (And I'm not kidding.) Or that could go under FAQ which is currently not very updated. (demonstrating that Queenzone.com is for semi-veteran fans...) I love polls! In some foreign Queen page I saw the "favorite Queen song contest" poll. What's unique about it is that they had it like a tournament - i.e. Quarter final, semi final, final... (Also allowing user comments) That looked quite interesting. The BitTorrent project is wonderful! Perhaps there could be a page in the menu separately for instructions as to how to use it... (or is it something not to be public?) I want to make a torrent file out of my stuff but don't know how... :| And please no smilies! Not too much graphics! (Except lovely Queen pictures) What happened to old threads? Can we still search for them? That's it for now... really, this site is almost the only site that I visit weekly, if not daily. (Along with Sebastian's site.) |
Kuku 04.04.2004 17:03 |
Again, I write another reply because the edit function doesn't work. Freddie tribute link is broken. Despite all things, I think that feature should stay. All the info in the library section link back to old webpage. Either change their looks to new, or go back to the old... The lack of unification is more bothering than any color scheme. Not to be negative, love the new board! |
Mr Mercury 04.04.2004 17:12 |
I agree with what YV said and in particular the notice board on the front page. Dave |

Nickipee 04.04.2004 18:42 |
Tea and biscuits is okay, but I'd much rather have a plate of peanut butter on toast and a bottle of stella please. Nickipee Oh and a bit later than nine suits me - say 9:20? |

The trouble with any software is that the Beta testing never ends, and the user ends up having to pay for an upgrade to fix the bugs. Also, this new board would have never happened if Richard waited for it to be perfect. Of course he has a volunteer guinea pig army to experiment with ... and the guinea pig army has a free web site to play with. That reminds me of a joke ... How are women like computers? - Can't live with 'em, Can't live with 'em. |

thanks freddie wrote: the mp3 section back online, more dowloads like wallpapers what YV wrote is a good idea. michelunfortunately, i doubt if there will ever be an "mp3" section again. The amount of bandwidth it uses becomes absolutely huge. I think that the HUB and Queen Bittorrents are going to be what we will have to rely on for sharing the music. |

please NO screensavers and wallpapers the are so boooring (in my opinion). If you want to improve the site: More mp3's More hard to get video's and more removing crap from the noticeboard please! topics like jesus is gay did queen drugs and what's your fav. song are iritating. please keep up the good work the rest of your site is great. greetz |
Maz 06.04.2004 00:20 |
A FAQ would be nice. There is a lack of a good, non-Ming FAQ in Queendom. Also, since Queeninterviews.com closed, print interview would also be nice. And normal Queen MP3s and Videos would get boring after awhile. There are so many different ways to get that kind of stuff, it really is a waste of bandwidth to have QZ do it. |
Brandon 06.04.2004 00:38 |
I agree with YV and Zeni. A new FAQ is desperately needed. It should also be updated on a regular basis to keep up with Brian, Roger, and *snicker* John. Your site is definately my fave Queen site though, Rich. |
corki4.0 06.04.2004 03:43 |
how about, as you can just barely phathom? Being nice to new people and forgeting the sarcasm for once, i mean that's all i ask for. I have been welcomed very nicely but i have noticed that some are not! We all love queen, Right? Instead of berating some people for there "simple questions" why not educate them about this fantastic band!! i don't post that often but i always read and have for a couple of years. We don't need to isolate people who like or love queen, we need to be friends and share the experience and love that we have for queen! take care all. cork! |
Fenderek 06.04.2004 04:08 |
Bring on the F.A.Q. And remember- sarcasm is usually aimed not at ones that don't know 'simple' things, but at the ones that show some lack of any intelligence... You may ask an obvious question- probably that's fine- and you can ask a stupid one.... |

I am afraid you cannot ask Richard to take care of the posts aimed at newbies, that's the responsibility of the board members. When new people come to the board and introduce themselves with a polite message like "Hi, I am new here" etc, the are *always* welcomed in a very friendly manner. Queenzoners are not that bad. However, when your first post is offensive for many people, when you don't ask about he music but about rumours in connection with Freddie's illness and death, some "oldies" may find that intrusive and won't respond very nicely. Just compare the first posts of "newbies" Nickipee (funny), Daragon (polite) and paris (wrong start in my opinion) and you'll see that newbies are not bullied here by habit. |
