link Killer Queen The 30th anniversary of Queen's first hit single is fast approaching. The band took 'Seven Seas of Rhye' to No. 10 back in May of 1974, and they have decided to celebrate with a one-off concert and perhaps a charity single. Only problem is that their singer, Freddie Mercury, died 13 years ago. Naturally, Queen fan Justin Hawkins is the only man for the job. The People reports that Brian May, Queen's poodle permed axe god, got together with Justin and his brother Dan at a club in London last weekend and thrashed out the details. The paper's source says: "Queen have been talking about a collaboration for a while and they finally got down to sorting it out last week." All the proceeds from the collaboration look set to go to Freddie's favourite charidees, The Terrance Higgins Trust or Children in Need. It looks set to be one hell of a team up, if only because Justin is the only guy on earth who could possibly pull off the same kind of outfits that Mecury used to wear. Break out the boas! |

Great, when was 7 seas of Rhy released? (I think it'll be the date to releas the the darkness version) Please place it at the news place when it's released! |
David Jones 28.03.2004 14:06 |
> Naturally, Queen fan Justin Hawkins is the only man for the job Is he fuck! The guy is a complete rip-off fuckwit! They should pick someone who you can respect and admire and a man with talent. Not some wannabee prick! |
Adam Baboolal 28.03.2004 14:18 |
"complete rip-off fuckwitt" So you don't like The Darkness then? *Sighs* Peace, Adam. |
Pim Derks 28.03.2004 14:21 |
"Great, when was 7 seas of Rhy released? (I think it'll be the date to releas the the darkness version)" February 14, 1974 if I'm not mistaken. |

Adam Baboolal 28.03.2004 14:25 |

Good Luck to them :) |
Pim Derks 28.03.2004 15:12 |
Dunno if it's the wrong date, but I'm sure it was released in February 1974. Could be that it got in the charts later on ofcourse :) If this news is true, I hope they will perform some of those early tracks and not just the crappy commercial ones ;) |

Whilst I like Mr Hawkins, I just can't imagine him singing Queen songs. Also, the article mentions John playing which is, I'm sure we all know, extremely unlikely to ever happen again. If it happens I'll be the first to sign up for it all, but to be totally honest with you I'm not convinced as to the validity of this particular story. A UK gig certainly has to be a distinct possibility, however. |
Whisperer 28.03.2004 15:37 |
I really wish this is not true! That Justin guy is one of the most annoying rock singers today. The only reason I don't talk bad about him in public is that he is a Queen fan. I really hope that Queen would not team up with anyone, because any new lead singer would immediately be compared with Freddie and we all know that it's pretty hard to be compared to the best man in the business. I (and many other fans) have lots of recordings by the best possible line-up, so why would I want to hear some "new" recording with a line-up that is not the best? Just my opinion though. *goes and listens to a bootleg with Freddie, Brian, Roger and John playing live. |
RMT 28.03.2004 15:43 |
If it's gonna happen, someone give Jeff Scott Soto a call :-) |
chancelloramethyst 28.03.2004 16:43 |
Or Valensia... |
Penetration_Guru 28.03.2004 16:47 |
No need to let the facts get in the way of the hysteria.... We KNOW why Brian met the Darkness - he took them to the musical - granted he could have discussed something else with them, but I doubt the Sunday People would know anything about it. Secondly, PIM HAS THE CORRECT DATE FOR SSOR. Thirdly, Queen's 30th anniversary was either Jan 2001, or, in terms of recording, July 2003. Why would they choose SSOR? This post will be followed by the same tired old argument about frontmen. Robbie Williams, George Michael, Jeff Scott Soto, Robbie Valentine, Pink. Wake me up when something FUCKING HAPPENS! |
7Innuendo7 28.03.2004 17:18 |
seeing the Darkness Wed. 3/31 in Pittsburgh...wondering if Justin wil say anything. In the new Spin he says his favorites bands are Queen, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, and Neil Diamond. Ah well! |
Saffron Caribou 28.03.2004 18:22 |
If it happens, great. If it doesn't happen, great too. I really don't care about this Queen + anymore. They can stage a benefit for people with no assholes for all I care. |
Adam Baboolal 28.03.2004 19:31 |
I never compare because it's fruitless. What good comes from comparing? F-all! I take a similar approach to Shoujo - great if it happens and who cares if it doesn't? I'd be happy just to see some of the guys playing. And of course to hear good live music. I'm sick of neysayers. It's getting old and very...er... harmful? The last few months have seen much negativity to anything they do. There are very few things that I would never want from them. Let them be who they want to be. We're just watching their lives and I feel extremely privelaged to be on the receiving end of anything they happen to do these days. Like it, don't like it, it's your call. But please, why all the name calling? Peace, Adam. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 28.03.2004 21:11 |
"...I feel extremely privelaged to be on the receiving end of anything they happen to do these days." Me too, Adam! Ditto! :) Cheers, Ogre- |

QUEEN OF DARKNESS - SUNDAY PEOPLE 28 Mar 04 A nice little fabrication - !!! Some wishful hacklet has put two and two together and made .... three and a half.... Well, it's not April Fools day yet, so I guess the Joke is on ....THE FABULOUS FACTUAL SUNDAY PEOPLE !!!! No. We are just good friends!! Watch Brianmay.com for real news .... Love Bri |
Daragon 29.03.2004 03:07 |
I agree with the people who wouldn't like it :S. That Justin guy doesn't even come near to what Freddie could, in my opinion he would just ruin the Queen songs he would sing... I'd rather see a Queen gig with Freddie on a big screen or so, than some guy taking his place. |
The Mir@cle 29.03.2004 04:18 |
I think it's great. I still love it when Roger and Brian play together. A good singer will do the rest! |
The Mir@cle 29.03.2004 07:34 |
Brian at his website: OK - might as well be clear about this BBC report. It's utter rubbish. - are you guys at the BBC REALLY so gullible as to take a report in "The People" as truth??? And "Poodle -Permed" ??? Grow up, you asses... and get a life... Love Bri |

I knew it was BS! BM and RMT are too busy in Las Vegas with the US debut of WWRY to bother with a one-off show. Besides if they were planning a show of any sort we would have heard about it long before now. You just cannot pull a show together lickity-split, it takes quite a bit of planning and I am sure Brian May and Roger Taylor would not settle for anything but the best if they were doing it for Mercury Phoenix Trust in memory of FM even if it was a one-off show. Any fan of Queen would know this, and expect nothing less. However, you have in the musical press a few lame-asses who hate Queen and hate The Darkness and want to put them in the same "boat" so to speak (NME anyone!) so it is not surprising to me at least that they made up such a BS story, hey, guess it sells newspapers, or they wouldn't have bloody bothered now would they? Notice how they wait until BM is out of the country to release their BS too! With that, I end my ranting for the day... Love, Kriz ;o) |
bolan 29.03.2004 11:35 |
I really hopr this is true-it will put Queen back on the map not that they were ever off it! It will be fun to see where it gets and it will be another chart placing for Queen |
Banquo 29.03.2004 11:57 |
How about releasing the original Freddie version of Seven Seas Of Rhye with the studio version of Say Its Not True as a double A-side? This would be perfect for the 46664 album launch and a great way to celebrate Queen's first hit. |
Hank H. 29.03.2004 12:12 |
Agree with Banquo. They should release Say it's not true. But do "double a sides" still exist? If not, they can release it as a double-a-mp3. |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 12:16 |
That is quite a nice idea Banquo! |
Banquo 29.03.2004 12:34 |
Two-track CD Single doesn't have the same ring to it as double A-Side. |
inu-liger 29.03.2004 17:48 |
"Agree with Banquo. They should release Say it's not true. But do "double a sides" still exist?" The last Queen single released as a double-A was NOBY/TYMD, and that did well. It was released as a CDsingle and a 7" pd. However, double-A is an incorrect term for CDs, because most CD's are not double-sided as far as I know, and two track is different from double-A which is used really on 45's |

I hope this soiree doesn't happen. Funny how Justin was like BORN around the same time Seven Seas of Rhye was a hit... |
The Mir@cle 31.03.2004 02:30 |
Yesterday I bought "Permission to Land". But Justin can't replace Freddie. Freddie is just twice as good as Hawkins. Nevertheless, I like BM and RT to play with Justin. At least it will remind us of the great time we had with our Freddie. |
