In almost every episode and movie the Enterprise is attacked by aliens or it shakes for some other reason. Every time there are people flying all over the bridge.
WHY THE HELL DON'T THEY USE SEAT-BELTS!?!?
This just started to annoy me a lot!
Hahaha
The original series of Star Trek makes me mad. It's SO hokey! I love TNG... and especially the subsequent movies.
When I was little I wanted a seatbelt on my bicycle.
You may as well also ask why they don't have seatbelts on battleships in war movies... Same principle really.
Except of course that massive great star ships with artificial gravity are made up...
Noooooooooo, it's in colour (well, apart from the first six seasons and the Pertwees that only survive as telerecordings anyway), it must be true!
And it's not a Police Box. It just looks like one!
Star Trek always brought up one important point for me:
The aliens knew perfect English.
No matter WHERE you went, their English was better than anyone from an English-speaking country.
Coincidence? (Well, of course we all want to speak Klingon but we're not THAT cool.)
Well to be fair they did have the explanation of the computerised "universal translator". It's a get out, but it makes about as much sense (indeed, if I'm being honest, probably more) as "a Time Lord gift."
As for how the lip sync works, that's anybody's guess. ;-)
Ah well wasn't the translator only used in The Original Series? I feel like such a geek, lol, my dad started me on Star Trek when I was 2 and now I'm 17 and quite grown out of it because I realize how hokey EVERYTHING is.
Now he likes this show Star-Gate and I cannot stand it for the life of me. He obsessively takes over the bigscreen TV and watches DVDs. Endlessly.
*pokes head around door* Can I at least watch Wembley???
Well I'm not particularly knowledgeable about "Star Trek", but I'm fairly certain the Universal Translator is used as the plot device in all series bar "Enterprise". I certainly remember seeing a DS9 episode based around it not working.
If the Enterprise is technologically advanced as it is portrayed, there should be an automatic seatbelt that comes through the floor whenever Red Alert is designated. I wonder if the writers are so engrossed in making it scientific that common sense is sometimes missing. LOL! I am still a fan, however:)
The DS9 episode was the one where Quark and Nog accidentally travel through time to 1940's America and specifically Roswell and are kept by the suspicious Americans. The universal translator doesn't work and hilarity results (sort of).
Enterprise's translator is always breaking down, which is a lazy-arsed way to get a story. I enjoyed Enterpise for a bit but now it really is getting, getting ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Know what I mean. Scott Bakula, brilliant in Quantam Leap is the most uncharasmatic Captain in ST history.
Kirk - Fights the Gorn, shags aliens
Picard - Says "Merde", shags Vash, Locutus
Sisko - er, er, nice goatie oh and won the Dominion War
Janeway - Fancied by Q, outwitted and twatted the Borg on numerous occasions
Archer - T'Pol Help?!??!?, Trip? Help?!?!? Only bacame Captain because of his Daddy.
And no I don't wear an anorak, even on wet days.
No, it wasn't that one, I haven't seen it. It was one where a new race of aliens turned up whose language wasn't in the universal translator yet.
So obviously they did two!
