I'm a lazy reader. To me a book has to be really damn fuckin' good so I can read it fast and not get bored. Some books drag for so long on non-sense, and that's why I don't like to read much. So from those few books I've read, and that have really kept me going... - All the Harry Potter books (Rowling) - One Hundred Years Of Solitude (Garcia Marquez) - The Beatles Anthology ... (still reading it) - Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky) - Killing Pablo (Marc Bowden) - Anything by Stephen King Now, if we're talking about comic books, I know a whole bunch that I like... - Calvin and Hobbes - Garfield - Mafalda - Zits - The Boondocks |

I enjoyed reading stephan kings "night shift" the stories scared the shit out of me. right now, i am reding roots. its amazing. The one author i refuse to read is Charles Dickens. I was forced by my english teacher to read one of is books. as was everyone else. I read oliver twist. It sucked, terrible, worst piece of literature ever. Maybe is b/c im only in 8th grade, but it was just terribly boring. The worst book, was A Wrinkle in time. I hated this bok. It litterally made me sick to read it. it confused me. It made me sweat and have head aches when they got to the parts about 1 demensional worlds, and how their bodies were compressed and they couldnt breathe. |

I like Dickens a lot. Great Expectations is my favorite and a classic, of course. Our Mutual Friend is quite good, too. |
geeksandgeeks 25.03.2004 21:07 |
My favorite book changes every day, but here are a few authors... -Stephen King -Lisa Scottoline -SE Hinton -Dean Koontz -Al Franken -George Orwell -Jonathan Kellerman -Robin Cook -KA Applegate (Okay, yes, I'm the biggest dork in the world. But I L.O.V.E. the "Animorphs" series!) -Henry Rollins :) -Judith Martin, aka Miss Manners -John Grisham -Anthony Burgess -David Sedaris -Nat Hentoff Amanda...is there a Dickens novel out there that you would recommend? I've really tried to like him, but aside from "A Christmas Carol", every one of his books that I've read has put me to sleep, especially Great Expectations. And Nina, the woman you speak of for "The Year They Burned The Books" is Nancy Garden. And she's great too. |

I think most of the time with Dickens a person really has to take some time out for his stuff cos otherwise, you get a little bored with it...simply because his books are quite long and quite involved. I just finished reading A Tale Of Two Cities, which is about the French Revolution. I enjoyed it, but because I had so much other stuff to do (work and college), I didn't feel as though I got to give it enough of my attention...and now I have gone off on a tangent. Oh, yeah, recommendations! lol I think that A Tale Of Two Cities is a good one to read - very much about "good against evil," if you know what I mean and an interesting plot. Our Mutual Friend is also really good, but it can be complex in some bits. In any case, I'd give A Tale Of Two Cities a try, but if you hate it, please don't blame me. ;^) |

Holly...my sister saw Noam Chomsky speak recently. Almost makes me want to go to MIT. I'll take a look at A Tale of Two Cities, Amanda. Oh, and as far as books go. I found my long-lost copy of "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton yesterday. Upon rereading it, I have decided that it is tied with "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" as my favorite book. Ever. That book should be required reading for every middle-school student in the United States at least. |
Mrs.Taylor 27.03.2004 19:04 |
I LOVED The Outsiders - we read it as a class at school. Top film as well. |

CatGurl14 28.03.2004 11:05 |
Outsiders is a great movie and film. :D Read it and saw it in 7th grade *ahh memories* My fave books are varied: I like Stephen King and Mary Higgins Clark, but also James Patterson and I reallly loved a book called This Lullaby that I read last summer, the same feelings for this one about the band side of more security after school shootings called "After." Currently I'm reading The Portrait of Dorian Grey. Next, I'll plan to read some Patterson or some more classic literature, I was given Dante for my b-day. Deacon Fan, is Fountainhead really that brilliant? I was thinking about doing a scholarship essay possibility over it but I didn't have time to read it this year. I hope to next year! :) |
