Q. What is a Stepford Fan?
A. A Stepford Fan is essentially someone who thinks Queen can do no wrong.
Q. Who came up with the name Stepford Fan?
A. The phrase was coined by Gordondoburstingfoam, a glaswegian Queen fan who used to be a member of the old Official Queen Fan Club Bulletin Board, Queenrocker and even posted here for a short while. The phrase comes from an old film called 'The Stepford Wives' in which a small American community was populated by subserviant women who existed only to serve their husbands.
Q. What sort of things might a Stepford Fan have in their collection?
A. Apart from everything Queen has ever released on vinyl, tape, compact disc, video and DVD, a typical Stepford will also own a Queen ashtray, a Queen duvet cover, a Queen screwdriver and socket set, a Queen home pregnancy testing kit and in the most extreme cases a copy of Greatest Hits 3.
Q. Who is the worst Stepford Fan?
A. There is a guy in Holland who I shall not name but he takes fan worship to a level that is just plain creepy. Freddie VTB is a well known bootlegger who simply cannot abide the thought of someone questioning the artistic integrity of Queen and can, if challenged become aggresive and hostile.
Q. So it's Freddie VTB then, is it?
A. DOH!
fatty.
"Oh God...I have a Freddie doll....
(feels very Stepford-ish right now)"
- we will let you away with that Janet, as long as the doll in question is neither life-sized nor inflatable.
Oh, Fatty... You are such a jokester... :p
"Queen home pregnancy testing kit and in the most extreme cases a copy of Greatest Hits 3."
I have them both... The test was positive. :'( I'm too young to be a mothe....er... father... ;')
What about owning the Rare Live: A Concert Through Time And Space video?
I'd say that's far worse than GH3. GH3 is odd, yes, and some might say unnessecary, but song for song it's not a bad collection (Yes, I know, you all hate the Wyclef "Dust" Remix...get over it).
As for my Stepford status: I have three Queen t-shirts and a pair of "We Are The Champions" boxers (all were gifts, which I love).
One the other hand, I've never really liked "Delilah" (and that relevelation isn't an invitation to start a 'songs I don't like' thread).
I guess that balances me out.
I never really liked the "Hot Space" album although i realise what they were trying to do with that album. They were trying to push the boundaries once again.

If you admit you don't like Hot Space, you are definitely NOT a Stepford.
You can't really blame the band for the Wyclef sh*te, that 5ive 'project' on the other hand....... I'm fairly sure if Freddie hadn't been cremated, he'd have been rotating in his box like a bleedin' tombolla.
I guess having Rare Live on LaserDisc--and keeping the player in order to watch only that one disc once a year--is Stepfordish. Or I'm stupid for not getting a DVD dub.
