Being a bassist I can appreciatte what John did
Intro to Millionaire Waltz is good
The whole of the Show Must On is great bass playing
Jealousy is good from a playing point of view
Under Pressure is one of the best bass lines ever written
The Miracle is a great bass part to play
I'm a bass player too! I like to hear and play:
"A kind of magic"
"Another one bites the dust"
"Rain must fall"
"Too much love will kill you"
"Don't try suicide"
"Crazy litle thing called love"
And so many more!
All the best!
Anything that sounds bluesy I like. Breakthru, Bring back that Leroy Brown, Crazy Little Thing Called Love..in fact most songs where Deaky is playing I like.
I've got an idea. Let's all name every single Queen song that John may or may not have played bass on, because - hey - every song is bound to be mentioned!
Let the games begin.
Hehe Lester...
Actually, CLTCL is far from being a standard 12 bar blues bass line. For those of us who are musicians, on first listen, you would expect John to do this:
-----------7--7-9---10---8---7-------
-5---7s9-------------------------9----
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
That would be the expected standard 12-bar blues style, being as the 1-4 (D-G) chord pattern has been established at this point in the progression. But in the end, both the bassline and chords are far from being a 12-bar blues.
-----------7--7-9---5---5---4-------
-5---7s9------------------------5----
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
Brilliant.
John Deacon was definitely an underrated bassist. John Entwistle was right... Queen could have used a heavier bass at times. Perhaps Deaky would have been much more recognized for his talents if his bass work was less subtle, and in the front of the mix more often.
To name a few: Liar, Hammer to fall (live), Slightly Mad and The Invisible Man - although I'm not sure if the last one includes more synthie-stuff than "real" bass-lines. Maybe some of the experts here know?
Kai, I'd certainly say that The Invisible Man and Slightly Mad have superb bass lines... especially the latter! Liar and Hammer To Fall aren't too spectacular, but they're still great.
I like that one bass line on the song Freddie was the singer. Brian & Roger might have joined in on the harmonies as well. Damn what was it called....?
