Some films listed that I'm a fan of... - Donnie Darko - Leon: The Professional - This Is Spinal Films not listed but that I consider are cult films and I'm a fan of... - The Shawshank Redemption - American History X - The Green Mile Now there are those films that have devoted fans, but the number of fans is far bigger than those from other cult films. Star Wars Lord Of The Rings Star Trek Also big cult films that weren't included on that list... The Godfather trilogy Scarface Goodfellas Cheech and Chong |
Saffron Caribou 17.03.2004 23:19 |
You know... I haven't yet to see Donnie Darko. Is it really a good film? Everybody raves about it. I read the synopsis at wikipedia, and it looks like a dumb plot LOL I'll be honest here. I was never a fan of Star Wars. I tried to like the films, but they never caught on to me. The same goes for Star Trek. I liked the series, but I need to see the films again. LOTR? Yeah they are good, but not much of a fan. I liked the books more, same goes for Harry Potter. American History X was a very disturbing film, but it is excellent. Scarface I liked. It is surely a very popular film with the rap crowd. If you've seen Cribs you'd know. :P Cheech and Chong! They are hilarious! Hehehe Esp. Up in Smoke. I'll add other films Yellowbeard History of the World Part 1 Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert. Spaceballs lol |
Mr.Jingles 17.03.2004 23:24 |
There's a lot more of cult films than those listed in there. You won't regret watching Donnie Darko, it's an excellent film. It might be a little weird and it makes you wonder a lot of things at the end, but that's what makes it so good. |
Saffron Caribou 17.03.2004 23:38 |
Hmmm Will check it out Danny. Ta :D |

I don't agree with many of Wikipedia's choices but it becomes a bit difficult to decide exactly what is a cult film. -Beautiful Thing -Billy Elliot -Chuck & Buck -Donnie Darko -Glengarry GlenRoss -Happiness -L.I.E. -Muriel's Wedding -Ratcatcher -Rushmore -Say Anything Are a few from my list of 27 :-P I also love John Hughes films but they seem too popular to me to be considered 'cult'. |
MexQueenFM 18.03.2004 00:15 |
"Also big cult films that weren't included on that list... The Godfather trilogy Scarface Goodfellas Cheech and Chong" then the Godfather , Scarface and Goodfellas :) |

My fave "cult" film is "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls". For those of you who also enjoy this film, it is tentatively scheduled to be released on dvd by Criterion later this year. I think a "cult" film is one that was not a great success upon first theatrical release, but gained a following upon re-release or release on home video. Some of my others are: Myra Breckinridge Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia Two Lane Blacktop Runaway Train Naked Lunch Tombstone (with Kurt Russell) |
Daburcor? 18.03.2004 00:34 |
Evil Dead Evil Dead II Army Of Darkness (Evil Dead III) Rocky Horror Spinal Tap Leon The Wall Kevin Smith's "Jersey Trilogy" (consisting of four movies... LOL!) I'll post more later when I can think straight. |

"Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" We've talked about the glory of Sam Peckinpah before, haven't we, DB? The Wild Bunch is a great movie. |

D.Blythe 18.03.2004 11:36 |
Ah, yes, the glory of Sam Peckinpah. He has a number of movies that could qualify as "cult" films; "Straw Dogs", "Convoy", "Ride the High Country", "Cable Hogue"... And Warren Oates could contribute; "Cockfighter", "Drum", "Dillinger", "White Dawn", and "China 9, Liberty 37" |
Mr.Jingles 18.03.2004 12:22 |
Many of the films directed by David Lynch, Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick, Spike Jonze, and Quentin Tarantino are considered cult films. Also they could be considered cult directors. |

I would hardly call A Clockwork Orange a cult film. Teenagers like to think that it is "cult" and "different" because it's not so well known now, but anyone who was around when it was released knows what it is. |

Assault on Precinct 13 The Hitcher - 2 classics, IMHO. Unfortunatley I dont think either of them are extremly well known. |
D.Blythe 21.03.2004 22:13 |
"Assault on Precinct 13" is supposed to be John Carpenter's homage to Howard Hawk's "Rio Bravo", although it is hard to compare them since they are so different. All the same, I dig "Assault" also. |
Saffron Caribou 21.03.2004 23:09 |
Hehehe andYYY... Ichi!!! ;) :D BTW The Warriors. The most memorable part of that film is the weird dude with the three glass bottles clinging them together going... 'Come out and playyyyyy' |
Lester Burnham 21.03.2004 23:14 |
Spirited Away, and Garden State (saw a preview for it at Eternal Sunshine For The Spotless Mind) with Zach Braff, which looks awesome - plus, I'm gay for Zach Braff, and it doesn't appear to be getting a nationwide release. |

"plus, I'm gay for Zach Braff" *cough* You're such a tease, Lester. Man I really need to get laid. Edit: How lovely that my 1000th post would be this one. I feel so proud. Edit: But at least I'm not *this* desperate: link |

LOL with Shoujo! The weird dude "Luther" (david patrick kelly) and "Ajax" (James remar) both reappear in another walter hill film "48 hours" The weird guy plays, surprise surprise, another risible character called "luther".......heheheh, whilst james remar plays another wired psychotic character, the slightly unhinged!! "Ganz" the weird bloke also plays 2 more losers, "T-Bird" the guy who gets blown up in the car in the excellent Cult Film "The Crow" and the guy who gets dangled over a cliff by Arnold "John" Matrix in "Commando" If you watch the warriors , the girl and some of the other warriors, are trying desperatley hard not to laugh during the weird dudes pathetic attempt at intimidation btw the kung fu obsessed "riffs" rock, the orphans suck and The Warriors has one of the best opening 10-15 mins sequence in any film Respect AndYYY |

Whatever the name of the gang is that was dressed up in baseball uniforms and had their faces painted in "The Warriors", THEY rocked! An early inspiration for the WCW wrestler, Sting? |

The "Baseball Furys" were the anaemic lot, who certainly looked the part, one of them was greeted with the immortal line "I 'm gonna stick that bat up ya ass and turn you into a popsicle" sadly , they were left battered and bruised by the Coney Island Boppers with Chief tormenter Ajax contemptuously remarking "Figured they were wimps"...... |
