I have recently started putting all my chord sheets on the computer, and have uploaded them. I try to transcribe mostly the ones I haven't seen around the net. If you have one you'd really like me to try and make for you, just reply to this or email me (amethyst@queenzone.com) and tell me. I can also make guitar tabs if you have a specific song you'd like to have. I'll have more up soon, as I type them out. link Any suggestions welcome as well. Just a piano player trying to help out, -The Chancellor Amethyst |

Well, allow me to offer you some help. Get Down Make Love: The intro riff's on Eb, not Bb octaves, and the chords are Eb5, Db5 then Db5, Ab5. The chorus section has piano chords alternating (I think, off the top of my head) between G and C/G. Good Company: There's so many mistakes in these chords I can't really be arsed to start listing them. It's Late: Basically it's good. The intro could be more accurately described as A, D/A, Dadd9/A, A6, D, A. All the Amaj7s should be E/A. The A2/E chords should all just be E chords. There are a few other things that you've missed out, or got slightly wrong, such as the inversions used, but they're fairly minor points. My Melancholy Blues: The intro chords should be Ab/Eb, Eb, Ebdim, Eb. The first verse chords (that you have starting on D) should be F#dim7, Fm7, Edim7, Fm7. The "wanna be intoxicated" chords should be Eb/G, Ebm/Gb, Bbsus4/F, (Bb). The "That says my heart is on an all time low" chords should be Eb/G, F#dim7, Fm7, then Bb7b9 for the "Sooooooo". The 3 chords for "weather SOON" are Fm, Fminmaj7, Fm7. The Bb6/G and Bb6 chords should just be Gm7. The chord on "let me take OVER" should be F#dim7, not Abm. The chords for "Melancholy blues" should be Fm7, F#dim7, Abm7, Bb7, Eb. Spread Your Wings: Is pretty much spot-on, except that the Em7 in the choruses should be E7, and I've got some minor quibbles where a 9 chord would be better than a 7, or maj7 could have been used etc. Sail Away Sweet Sister: I'd say F#m7 instead of A/F#. It's the same thing basically, but just more appropriate to name it as F#m7. What happened to the rest of the chords?! The Loser In The End: I'd pretty much ditch the C and G chords throughout (except for the bridge/middle section), as the song is basically just riffing on A5. You Take My Breath Away: "Changed my life" chords should be Bb7, Eb. The chords for "Everytime you make a move, you destroy my mind. And the way you touch, I lose control and shiver deep inside" should be, Ab/Bb, Bb7, Eb/G, F#dim7, Fm7. The chords for "Right until the ends of the earth...find you to tell you, That you just take my breath away" should be Abdim7, Eb/G, F#dim7, Fm7, Cm. There's a few other minor mistakes, such as in the start of the bridge/middle section, where the chords kind of alternate between Bb and Ab/Bb (starting on the Bb chord) before reaching the Eb. Aside from all that, keep up the good work, you obviously pretty much know what you're doing. |

*cough* I'm glad you feel I should... keep up the good work. Anyway, the chords are very close to original, as most were taken from music TRANSCRIBED from the original recordings. >>My Melancholy Blues: >>"The intro chords should be Ab/Eb, Eb, Ebdim, Eb." It acutally starts with this "Absus/Eb Ab5/Eb" and moves on to what I have but if you are going to get that technical with the piano music then you should get the sheet music which is far more precise. The chord sheet is meant to be an approximation. >>The first verse chords (that you have starting on D) should be F#dim7, Fm7, Edim7, Fm7. It is not exactly D, but more D/F#addEb, but that would be confusing. Again, approximation. "Fm7" is also a simplifed chord and not actually what he plays. An F#dim has a C in it, which dear Freddie did not play. >>The "wanna be intoxicated" chords should be Eb/G, Ebm/Gb, Bbsus4/F, (Bb) I did not put the G or Gb on the bottom of the first two, and you have my deepest regrets. As for the change from E2 to Bbsus4/F, both are "wrong." It is actually E5/F, as there is no D and the 2nd is minor. >>The "That says my heart is on an all time low" chords should be Eb, F#dim7, Fm7, then Bb7b9 for the "Sooooooo". As for your claim to Bb7b9... there is no D in the chord, ruling out Bb. It is in fact Fdim, with F Ab and B. >>The 3 chords for "weather SOON" are Fm, Fminmaj7, Fm7. They change and are different each time and it's a matter of interpretation how one writes them. >>The Bb6/G and Bb6 chords should just be Gm7. Again, a matter of intrepretation to do with the key the song is in and the flow of the chord structure. >>The chord on "let me take OVER" should be F#dim7, not Abm. The first one (let me take over) is Abm, the second (come in to my enclosure) is F#dim7, like I've marked. >>The chords for "Melancholy blues" should be Fm7, F#dim7, Abm7, Bb7, Eb. I left out many of the sevenths because of the way they are played. It again is an approximation, my friend, to help one play the song NOT BE TO THE LETTER ON HOW TO PLAY THEM LIKE THE RECORDING. That's what sheet music is for. My chords for "Good Company" were as close as I could get them seeing as there are 19 guitar parts to the song. When playing piano, one does not generally have 19 hands (or fingers, for that matter) For It's Late, D/A would be accurate on guitar, but not necessarily so. It's a delicate business changing it because then so many piano chord sheets would read /E or /F# when this might not be the best option. In Spread Your Wings, I went back and looked at the music. You are correct, it is not an Em7, but it is also not an E7. It is in fact Em9. I thank you and will rememdy the situation immediately. In "Loser in the End" the chords were written for a piano (which must have more accurate chords than used on the guitar) and it is quite impossible to "riff" on a piano. >>Sail Away Sweet Sister: >>I'd say F#m7 instead of A/F#. It's the same thing basically, but just more appropriate to name it as F#m7. What happened to the rest of the chords?! It's easier to remember chords written like that, and facilitates the bass line. As for what happened to the rest of the chords, I suppose they heard you were coming and ran away. And as for "You Take My Breath Away" the widely used chord sheet is for guitar--and highly simplfies the chords. If you compare them to other sheets, yes, they are different, because they were meant to be closer. If we really want to nitpick, of course, as I've never seen any of YOUR fabulous chord sheets, transcriptions or what have you, let's start with your grammar! >>Good Company: >>There's so many mistakes in these chords I can't really be arsed to start listing them. Well, for one thing, as I said earlier, 19 guitar parts combined for one instrument is bound to have SOME translation differences, and second, "There ARE so many mistakes..." -Amethy |

Yesterday I nearly finished a massive long reply to all your posts, but when I came back from lunch (I was at work) my PC had been rebooted, and alas my post was gone forever. Arse. Anwyays, I'll just have to repeat my main points. - Everything I wrote was off the top of my head, as I was at work and had no access to the tunes, so I admit that some of my chords may have been slightly wrong. I've now listened to most of the sections in question again. - My intro chords for Melancholy Blues started from about 15 seconds in when Fred's nearly finished noodling around (as yours seemed to). He actually plays Ab5/Eb, Eb, Ebdim, and then alternates between the last 2 chords a few times. - The first verse chords (that you have starting on D) are actually, D/F# (yep, you're right - no C), Fm6no5, Gdim. These are essentially approximations, as throughout most of the song Fred is playing the melody within the chords, and they therefore often fluctuate as the melody changes. - You don't have to put the bass-notes in the chords for the "Wanna be intoxicated" part, so no need to to be regretful. It just sounds better and is more accurate if you do include them. Anyway, they absolutely definitely are Eb/G, Ebm/Gb, Bb7sus4/F (Bb). E5/F?!! Have you actually played that and heard how it sounds? E and B with an F in the bass sounds odd enough on its own - in the above context it's just ridiculous. - The "sooooooo" chord does have a D in it - even the bass arpeggio starts on a D - and the notes of F, Ab, and B natural. You can also make out Fred playing a low Bb in his left hand just before the change to Eb. The chord serves as the dominant of Eb, so is a version of Bb. In my book that's Bb7b9. - In actual fact the chords for "stormy weather SOON" are Fm7, Fminmaj7, Fmin7 the first time, and Fmin, Fminmaj7, Fmin7 the second. - Why write Bb6 when the bass and left hand are clearly playing a G, making the chord Gm7?. Ditto for Bb6/G. - The chord on "let me take over" is quite obviously F#dim, not Abm. - Who says (apart from you) that music written for a piano must have more accurate chords than that written for a guitar? And saying you can't riff on the piano is naive I'm afraid. - I was gonna originally gonna say E9 for the Spread Your Wings chord, but I thought I'd simplify it to E7. I maintain that there's a G# in there somewhere, and would therefore still class it as E9. Just play a straightforward Em chord over it whilst playing along to the CD, and see how wrong it sounds. - If you wanna play spot the typos in each other's posts rather than discuss the real issue, go ahead. You'll find more in your post than in mine. - Whatever, I genuinely was trying to offer help and an improvement on your chords. Don't believe me if you want, but I do know what I'm on about. If you wanna see some of my fabulous chord sheets, head over to link. The 3 songs with chords were all done by me, although Guide Me Home was submitted and started by another guy who sent me the chords to review, correct and complete, and now my name doesn't appear anywhere on that chord chart. |
