No wonder Bob Geldof has been informing the police on pirate copies of Live Aid being sold on e-bay, it's going to be officially released... More here....... link |
agneepath9 08.03.2004 09:40 |
Moral of the story? Bootlegging works! Seriously it is great news - especially for us younger fans who missed it first time around. |
Penis - Vagina 08.03.2004 09:47 |
I'll repeat my post here in case this thread becomes the popular one :-P Thanks Kevo :) Interesting strategy there.. rather than find a distributor and handle getting rights from the artists himself (and then giving the proceeds to charity) he's chosen to auction the rights to release it, and then that entity will have to get the permissions. Very very interesting :) Hope whoever wins it does it properly. Hey!!!!!! We gotta tell Brian about this.. maybe Queen could buy the rights! Then we'd never see it! LOL |
YourValentine 08.03.2004 09:57 |
Lol Jeffrey, let's hope someone else wins the rights:)) |
KevMull 08.03.2004 10:19 |
LOL DF Yeah could you imagine if QP got hold of it (heaven forbid!)... They would break it down into several volumes and release it over 10 years or more and then it would be in glorious '16:9 butchered pixel vision' complete with 'DoRo cut n paste montages'....although the DTS remix will be OK. |
NoOneButYou1975 08.03.2004 10:47 |
i cant wait to have a copy :) |
Mayboy 08.03.2004 11:12 |

Iam the one 08.03.2004 11:16 |
I want it now and i want it now! |
wstüssyb 08.03.2004 11:36 |
it'll be like 10-12 dvds...with extra stuff about why it happend...and the price would be like 200 bucks... |
RMT 08.03.2004 11:38 |
I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm not going to be able to afford this :-( |
Krizzy 08.03.2004 12:18 |
Well only one question remains why did it take so flipping long...think of all the money he could've raised by now. Hey Sir Bob what's up! Kriz ;o( |
deleted user 08.03.2004 12:45 |
I probably won't buy it if it is terribly expensive. Nice that it's finally getting official release, though! |
David Jones 08.03.2004 13:30 |
At last! Great news! Hopefully it won't be too expensive! |
NoOneButYou1975 08.03.2004 13:36 |
this beats the video tape i had recorded back in 85 lol along with commericals ... |
rhapsody__87 08.03.2004 16:26 |
OOOOH this is really exciting. Bob is like such a good guy... seriously. :-) |
Brandon 08.03.2004 23:11 |
I'm in. But if they are going to release by Christmas, why does it take QP soooo long to release everything? Maybe time just flows slower for royalty... Anyway, bring on the Queen stuff including but not limited to the box sets, 46664, and Live Aid! |
Maz 09.03.2004 01:11 |
I hate to be a killjoy, but am I the only person who thinks they'll have problems getting the rights cleared? |
iGSM 09.03.2004 03:46 |
Apparently so. I'll just nick mine..yoink! AND I'll become Sir Bob Gandolf...one ring to rule them all! One DVD to destroy them all! |
Daburcor? 09.03.2004 04:38 |
I would LOVE to see Live Aid! |
KevMull 09.03.2004 07:42 |
"I hate to be a killjoy, but am I the only person who thinks they'll have problems getting the rights cleared?" Yes you are. Somehow I can't see anyone refusing unless they want to be named and shamed and suffer The Wrath of Bob! |
Voice of Reason 2018 09.03.2004 07:54 |
I don't give a shit about getting all the rights - I just want to see the Queen stuff! The Queen stuff should be released as a single too... |
Oberon 09.03.2004 09:04 |
I think the reason it wasn't released before was because of the problems with rights etc. I suspect Mr Geldof is banking on everyone's good nature and the thought that it's better that the rights are granted and money goes to charity rather than a bootlegger. Of course, it may mean an edited version due to rights being refused by some artists... |
deleted user 09.03.2004 09:39 |
does somebody know which was the whole set list of Live Aid? |
Saint Jiub 09.03.2004 21:25 |
The FM tribute was for charity ... and much remains unreleased on any format. Half of it never made it to DVD. ... So I agree with Zeni. Furthermore, whoever buys it could keep it for themselves as an ultimate collectors item ... |
Saffron Caribou 09.03.2004 21:53 |
I'm very delighted by this story. Sure took Bob a while to figure this out. However, I'd be happy with the UK Live Aid rather than the US Live Aid portion. The US portion was awful. It was boring and there wasn't much excitement than in Wembley. About the clearances I'd bet that Led Zep and The Who are not going to give the OK in releasing their appearances of the concert. They've always said that they weren't that pleased with their performances. About the Freddie Tribute, the video had the almost full concert (except for Spinal Tap, Plant's Innuendo, Zucchero, Extreme doing 'More than Words', and others). I wonder why the DVD release ONLY included the second half. |
Maz 09.03.2004 22:07 |
"I wonder why the DVD release ONLY included the second half." Brian said it was due to getting the clearances for all the non-Queen stuff. Rather than have Jim Beach do it, they just cut it out. I still think that if we get Live Aid on DVD, someone will hold out because they didn't like their performance that day. |
Saffron Caribou 10.03.2004 00:04 |
Well that was pretty lazy of QP for not including the first part on the DVD. Still, I wonder how come QP produced the almost whole concert for video back in '93, and couldn't for the DVD. Were there problems back in '93 when the video of the tribute was released? |
Saffron Caribou 10.03.2004 00:08 |
Well we can play the game of who isn't going to give the OK for the release. Again, I still bet that these two groups will refuse the rights of their performance to be shown for the DVD release: The Who Led Zepellin For the one that asked about the set list of the concert here it is: link |
Maz 10.03.2004 01:25 |
"Still, I wonder how come QP produced the almost whole concert for video back in '93, and couldn't for the DVD. Were there problems back in '93 when the video of the tribute was released? " The video was in the pipeline from the beginning, so getting clearance was already considered and dealt with. The impression I got was that the DVD would require new clearances, which could be tricky. Acts like Guns and Roses and Extreme have since broken up, so who knows if they would ever agree. |
Bob The Shrek 10.03.2004 01:33 |
I saw Live Aid on tv and won't be rushing out to buy it. |
All Star 10.03.2004 12:17 |
I dont think this DVD will be out by Christmas, all the arists have to be cleared by whichever record company is releasing it, and the whole thing has to be mastered onto DVD. Not to mention any additional features like backstage video, interviews and documentaries all have to be recorded / collected. I think it will be out in July 2005 to capitalise on the 20 year anniversary of Live Aid. |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 12:28 |
You could be right All Star. And I would almost rather see just the Queen segments as an extra somewhere. This could backfire if some artists don't agree to it.. but maybe the idea of proceeds going to charity will help them change their minds. As to the Freddie tribute, I'm afraid that lots of things have changed with the arrival of DVDs. Perhaps because of the higher quality or the basic fact that they didn't exist at the time, it seems nobody just automatically has the same rights as they might have with VHS/laserdisc. I miss that 3 hour edit too. I keep being tempted to get into laserdiscs again but I refuse to go back to tapes.. I'm trying my best to get away from them :) |
Voice of Reason 2018 10.03.2004 12:39 |
Sorry to cast a sarky note. Immediately after the Tribute Concert I asked the Fan Club if there were any plans for a video and / or CD of the gig. They told me there no plans as it would be too tricky to get the permissions required. And so, that Christmas, the video came out... Been waiting 10 years to share that! Cheers, The Voice. |
NoOneButYou1975 10.03.2004 13:03 |
I saw Live Aid on tv and won't be rushing out to buy it. that was 19 , almost 20 years ago :P |
Adam Baboolal 10.03.2004 13:07 |
Actually, they rebroadcast it 9 years ago on the BBC. |
-fatty- 2850 10.03.2004 13:51 |
I remember watching Live Aid on TV 19 years ago. There were some great performances on the day but oddly enough the thing that sticks in my mind is Adam Ant singing Apollo 9. No bugger was listening to him and you could actually hear voices in the crowd saying things like 'I'm going for a piss'or 'Anyone fancy a hot-dog?' Maybe that's what sent him doolally in the end. Useless Trivia: Did you know that the piano used by Phil Collins and Howard Jones at Live Aid belonged to Freddie? fatty. |
inu-liger 10.03.2004 14:06 |
I am also skeptical about having the whole thing on DVD by Xmas. But look at 46664 - that was, I believe, last November(?) and they have it ready to be released in the next few months (can't quite remember when), so it is possible. If they plan on remastering the sound and video to max. quality, that would delay it seriously, but as that is very long time to take to do that, I doubt it. |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 14:29 |
Do you suppose they could do anything about the feedback problems/wrong audio feed with voiceover etc. during Queen's bits? This was the one thing that shocked me when I finally saw the whole thing recently thanks to Rien. Everyone always says how Queen stole the show, but they also seemed quite plagued by technical problems. Maybe Bri, Rog & Robbie Williams or Britney could dub the whole thing. :-P |
Mr.Jingles 10.03.2004 15:03 |
Record companies and artists themselves have a freakin' nerve on not giving the rights of their performances considering that it's all done for charity. The whole "We didn't like our peformance" thing is just a silly excuse. The record industry is so full of greed that it makes me sick. Especially the 5 major record labels. |
