smash@mash 07.03.2004 13:44 |
Hi there - I've just completed building a track around the very incomplete Queen demo, New York. I've tried to be true to the spirit of Queen, but I'd love to get some feedback from 'died in the wool' queen fans :o) You can audition the track here: link |
Adam Baboolal 07.03.2004 14:05 |
Nice work. VERY cool. Thanks for the pressie!! Peace, Adam. |
Penis - Vagina 07.03.2004 14:06 |
Absolutely brilliant. This deserves a formal release. I particularly loved the way you used samples. Perfectly blended and without being immediately recognizable. Superb work. :) |
ilizarov 07.03.2004 14:09 |
I actually think this works very well. And I'm saying that as someone who doesnt like dance music at all. And the overall production sounds very professional. There will obviously be people who slag it off because its a dance track; but I say well done. |
smash@mash 07.03.2004 14:25 |
Blimey - you guys are fast! Thanks very much for your compliments so far!! It has gone to Jim Beach but heard nothing as of yet. I wondered whether I was wide of the mark, which is why I wanted to get the genuine fan viewpoint. |
Josuè 07.03.2004 15:09 |
As DeaconJohn, I'm not in dance music pretty much, but I must admit this song is very sweet to me. And, I still can't recognize where the samples are!! It sounds professional because you might be a professional, it is great. If you have used samples from that songs, I must say I'm impressed cause I can't find them and you've made new melodies, which is GREAT. I love the sweetness, and softness in it. I must than you for this, I really love it. :) |
Adam Baboolal 07.03.2004 15:10 |
If I was going to be big-headed, I'd add some of my guitar stuff and speed it up. But the way it sounds now is great! Is it ok to comment like I have? :S Peace, Adam. |
Josuè 07.03.2004 15:17 |
I'm still impressed. Besides of the New York vocal stuff, where the hell is from all that vocal stuff? I mean, the lines between the New York chours. I'm very very impressed, it is a great work. |
Mr.Jingles 07.03.2004 15:18 |
Almost everytime I get introduced to a Queen remix I get my ears ready to expect a piece of turd, but your mix is unbelievably good. Awesome job!! |
Josuè 07.03.2004 15:19 |
BTW, Adam, great work with A Winter's Tale aswell! You've got a lovely voice!!!! :D |
Pim Derks 07.03.2004 15:26 |
Very nicely done - great work :) |
smash@mash 07.03.2004 16:20 |
Well, what can I say - I'm happy to find you guys so open minded. Adam - I came here for genuine reactions so yes, please say what you think! My ultimate goal here was to produce something authentic sounding. I'm also a guitarist and believe me, it was tempting to do the stuff myself rather than cut up the guitars from Spread your wings and Save Me LOL! Josuecifu - All the vocals came from the New York demo - perhaps you haven't heard it all? ('all' makes it sound like there's a lot more to it than there is) It's basically just one verse and one chorus with a piano accompaniment. Thanx again for all responses |
Daz85 07.03.2004 16:37 |
Absoloutely fantastic! I wasn't sure what to expect (in fact I was expecting the New York, New York piece from Highlander!), though this is really damn good. In fact, its probably the best "fan" mix I've heard. They way Queen songs were sampled was spot on. My only slight critisism is that it sounds a tad dated - though I imagine that's the intention when you wrote on the site "1993" :-P This is very close if not on the mark to be worthy of an official release. Hell, if they can release that "Flash" Vanguard mix from last year, they sure as hell can do this! Also, it begs the question, what other demos can be used in this way??? |
Rien 07.03.2004 16:47 |
I cannot believe what I'm hearing! I must say that I have to listen to the Freddie box to hear the original again, but you did an amazing job. This reminds me of "A Little Less Conversation" by dutch dj JXL. That was also a reworked song - never released before if I'm right - and became a hit. Your mix should be released officially. I think it could use a bit more, perhaps a part where the musical arrangements change, like Freddie did in his songs and besides guitar from Brian May it would be great if samples from Roger and John were used. (if it should become a Queen release). My first thought was to write to Brian May but you said that you had contacted Jim Beach. Perhaps you should also write to Brian. The change of arrangement (I hope you'll understand what I mean) could make the song a bit more heavier, if such a thing would do this song any good. Again compliments! Would it be allright if I put the track on my download page or put a link up to your site? (don't know how long you'll keep the song available and of course you made it available first.) |
smash@mash 07.03.2004 16:49 |
Access to a studio, the original vox multitracks and Brian May himself (and Roger and John!) and then you'd get release quality :o) Incidentally, does anyone know when the New york demo was recorded? |
smash@mash 07.03.2004 16:55 |
Well I didn't send it to Brian because........erm, I don't have his address! (Surrey somewhere?). Rien - I like the JXL connection! A link would be cool, but to the site rather than direct to the file please (gotta watch bandwidth). |
Daburcor? 07.03.2004 17:00 |
HOLLY CRAP! THAT'S SAH-WEET!!! I usually hate dance music, But this is friggin' GROOVY! Thanks! :D You should really write to Brian at his soapbox and give him the link, This is VERY good! He'd be a fool NOT to use it! |
Rien 07.03.2004 17:24 |
I never link to a song on someones site. (I've discovered that a lot of fansites have links to the actual files on my site instead of just a link to my site or downloading the tracks themselves... costing me my own bandwith - so I know what you mean) Perhaps you should write to Brian, link it shouldn't do you any wrong I guess. Brian is always busy and planning far ahead so beware of that. |
Lester Burnham 07.03.2004 17:24 |
Wow. No more to say except 'wow'. |
ilizarov 07.03.2004 18:05 |
"Your mix should be released officially." - I agree. E-mail Brian's soapbox and see if you get a reply. |
Richard Orchard 07.03.2004 18:40 |
Fantastic! |
Simmer 07.03.2004 20:33 |
Nice, I like it much.. you did a good job on it!! |
RMT 08.03.2004 03:04 |
I wasn't sure what to expect but I enjoyed it very much. I was, like Darren, expecting 'New York, New York' but this is cool too :-). |
Kai Kurgan 08.03.2004 04:09 |
Hi Smash. Brilliant work! The original "New York"-demo has been recorded on July 6th 1984 at Musicland Studios Munich. Has anyone listened to the remix of a guy called TRS? A very nice job, too! It features additional guitars etc. |
Hitman 08.03.2004 06:49 |
hey hey hey this song sounds excellent also to me!!Congratulations!!!! a perfect b-side for Living on my own!!!! ;) |
Billie 08.03.2004 07:56 |
I do like dance music and, but this mix is beyond that, it sounds very fresh asn pacefull. It seems like Freddie had been recorded "new york" specially for this mix. Congratulations |
iGSM 08.03.2004 08:09 |
I likeses it...just like the Hobbitses... |
Adam Baboolal 08.03.2004 08:51 |
Kai Kurgan, could you possibly find out where that version is and post the link here? Very interesting to find that there's another! Adam. |
Kai Kurgan 08.03.2004 10:17 |
Hi Adam! In case you're not a member of the hub: I put the remix on my own homepage. Just visit link Enter the download-area and you'll find the track. |
deleted user 08.03.2004 12:02 |
I got a TROJAN after downloading this song. It is a wonderfuly done pice.....I don't know if they are connected, I just thought I would give a warning. The trojan has been in the hub, as with this song (I assume). |
Adam Baboolal 08.03.2004 12:06 |
I haven't got a virus from it. Nah, I like the dance one better. But I still think I'd like some more raw guitar for it. :D Adam. |
[ Wybren™ ] 08.03.2004 13:10 |
Two words: Nice job! |
Kai Kurgan 08.03.2004 13:14 |
A Trojan? That would explain the devastating harddrive-crash a few weeks ago... Just kidding! My virus-scanner didn't give any warning on this file - although it's from the hub. I like the TRS-works. Very affectionate works in my opinion. |
Banquo 08.03.2004 13:33 |
Very good indeed, deserves an official release. |
ilizarov 08.03.2004 13:46 |
I have listened to this quite a few times over the last day, and I continue to enjoy it. Brilliant stuff. |
smash@mash 08.03.2004 14:10 |
Just noticed my status 'upgrade', lol! - thanx moderators :o) Well, once again I must say continued thanks for all your feedback - I honestly wasn't expecting this much response. Kai - I like the TRS mix - it's subtley done and has a 'trueness' if you get me... BTW, If anyone has Brian's address, I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail me....thanx |
Mr Mercury 08.03.2004 14:33 |
Smash, that was f*cking amazing. I also quite liked the other Queen song that you can get through your site (the Queen / Bowie / Michael Jackson version of "Under Pressure") although it took a bit of getting used to. Nice site btw... |
David Jones 08.03.2004 14:35 |
Very well mixed! Congratulations! Will have to look at some of those other remixes too! Good luck in your campaign for it to be released! Very worthy! |
6085degroot 08.03.2004 14:40 |
I just finished listening to the remix and I must say although it sounds very professional, it represents everything that was wrong with Queen in the late eighties. I believe that they got very lazy in the 80's and relied on drum machines and loops and basic computer generated crap. This started with Hot Space with tracks like Staying Power, Body Language, Back Chat, continued with Kind of Magic, Pain is so ..., Party from the Miracle and even on Breakthru (which could have been a kick-ass rocker) instead they went the fastest easiest route, drum machines and synths ... I know the 80's was a time when many bands went to electronics, but in the 70's Queen never followed trends, they started them. Anyway, thats my rant, Queen and disco breaks my heart. |
deleted user 08.03.2004 15:41 |
Virus Update: I have discovered that infact it was NOT the song that was in question. It was a website that lists song lyrics. I was looking for April Wine chords, and that is where it came from. Sorry if I alerted anyone.... |
Kai Kurgan 08.03.2004 16:33 |
Smash - what about this "Under Pressure"-Mix that Mr.Mercury mentions above? Can't find it on your page. I'm very curious to know whether it's as perfect as the "New York"-mix. Btw: I don't mind the "80's style" of Queen - coz that's the period of time when I first got in touch with their music. Otherwise: I also prefer the "early years". Still my favourite album: "The Works". I like this combination of synth and guitars - absolutely fitting to the "line" of the album, in my opinion. |
smash@mash 08.03.2004 16:42 |
Kai - it's from my links page - link he's a very well respected mash-up and bootlegging artist - well worth taking time out to investigate! |
deleted user 08.03.2004 17:18 |
dont waste your time mailing brian may about this track... it's about freddie mercury solo, it's not we will rock you and doesn't feature any boy band members. no use for it, at the moment. i guess. |
Penis - Vagina 08.03.2004 17:37 |
Yeah, the Under Pressure with Jacko vocals was spreading around here like a month ago. It's cute but I think the vocal is a little low :-P I assume he got the vocal from a 5.1 Jacko DVD? |
smash@mash 08.03.2004 18:30 |
No, it's a geniune accapella - there's quite a few Jackson ones around. The DVD trick was used however for Rapture Riders vocal (I know cos I sent it to him lol!) Jim Morrison pellas just aren't available. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 08.03.2004 19:16 |
Hi, Smash! CONGRATS!!! I loved what you did with New York. I think the synths stuff is one of the faces Queen had (has?). I prefer the first records, but I'm still a big fan of electronic music as well as of rock'n roll. I believe the Brian/Roger composition "Machines", specially the 12" version, to be a lost link between rock and electronics. I think that could've been the path for Queen to date. IMHO Brian and Roger would blend perfectly if they decided to follow that path and then they'd be the future of music for the first half of this century. :D * fictional and delusional parts were added to the text * BTW, you're surrounded with good people. I like most of the other recordings I've heard from your site. Keep on! Cheers, Ogre- |
Penis - Vagina 08.03.2004 21:41 |
Smash, Brian has heard your mix :) I quietly pointed it out to him.. others probably did too. I wasn't going to say that I did until I just got this reply so I have to brag: ------------- hmmm ..... VERY interesting ! Love Brian --------- "Love"? hehe I hope he has good feelings about it. If he sues you or something I'd feel like shit :-P |
Wilki Amieva 08.03.2004 22:14 |
Just excellent! |
Dr Zoidberg 08.03.2004 23:56 |
The positive response will inevitably give way to the same dreary tiresome "its not really Queen/Queen was 4 people/there is no Queen without our dear angel Freddie/I haven't liked a Queen record since 1978" negativity that a lot of Queen fans seem to thrive on (especially when anything that deviates from their preconceptions appears), but I just wanted to say (and in fact I bothered to register just to post this) that you've created a great track. It may not be 'Queen' but its Queen enough for me. Its got a great spirit and vibe about it, the vocal is well respected, the Brian samples are very nice, and even the dancier synth aspect can be seen as a nice tip of the hat to "Radio Ga Ga" and some of Queen's other diversions into dance music and synthetic sound. I've been a Queen fan for ages and ages, and your mix has really put a smile on my face. If your target audience was the average Queen fan, then you've hit a bullseye with me. I have no idea what kind of hoops you might have to jump through to do a proper version and get Queen's endorsement or support, and I won't hold my breath on that lovely idea happening, but if it strikes Brian's fancy, I'd say its an outside possibility. If that Janis Jpolin remix can be a hit, then this definitely could and deservedly so. So fingers crossed, terrific work, and best of luck with the mix. |
El Shileno 09.03.2004 02:12 |
WOW, f**** amazing!!!! |
smash@mash 09.03.2004 03:35 |
Wow! this is quite a rollercoaster so far - continued thanks for feedback. Armaldo - thanks for checking out some of my other stuff. Deacon Fan - "I hope he has good feelings about it. If he sues you or something I'd feel like shit :-P" He-He....LMAO! (nervously). I have failed miserably to get Brian's address to send a proper package to - not without want of trying though! Dr Zoidberg - I'm quite overwhelmed that you registered purely to give feedback on the mix - what can I say? :o) El Shileno - f***** thank you!!!! :oP |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 09:28 |
Smash, I've sent you an email with additional information :) |
Kickforce 09.03.2004 10:07 |
Hey this is really brilliant what you've done, it would be really cool when this song gets a release. you've got the talent to fit different parts of music fluently intogether. I also liked what you've done with a Doors and The Who song. |
Adam Baboolal 09.03.2004 10:16 |
Just go to link - you'll find all the info you need there. Adam. |
Kai Kurgan 09.03.2004 11:21 |
Hi Smash! Just downloaded the "Under Pressure"-plus-Jacko-Mix. Stunning how this totally different pieces of music fit together. As for the "New York"-work: I keep my fingers crossed that our blessings might be heard and Brian (or Queen Prod.) might find a way to release it officially. May it be... |
inu-liger 09.03.2004 12:35 |
Just one question: Where did you get the vocals for this remix?? I want those vocal tracks! |
Adam Baboolal 09.03.2004 12:50 |
Nice question, Inu. EQ-ing tricks on the original piano n vocal? Or is it phase inverting stuff? Peace, Adam. |
Billie 09.03.2004 13:37 |
May i ask something else? Where are the samples from Save Me and Spread your Wings? I feel really disoriented and shamed but i didn't find them! Thanx |
deleted user 09.03.2004 13:57 |
Where is the Under Pressure with Jacko mix? I can't find it on your site Smash....please let me know. I absolutly LOVE LOVE LOVE the Freddie mix....it's just amazingg man.! |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 14:00 |
If you listen to 'Spread Your Wings', at around 3:22 there's an echoey guitar sustain (am I using the right term?) which is used a few times in the remix. As for 'Save Me', I'm assuming it's the other guitar stuff you hear though I can't pinpoint a specific riff. I find this whole thing very exciting. Brian has definitely heard it, and Greg Brooks has heard it, said he was 'quite impressed' and asked me about it so I gave him Smash's email addy so there should be contact between them all soon enough. Of course I ran the risk of putting myself into the middle of something that has nothing to do with me, but I felt this was really worthy of being heard on a wider scale so I used a previous reply from Brian to mention it. |
inu-liger 09.03.2004 14:05 |
No, DF, you did a good thing. Perhaps this will be a new Queen-related/Freddie single, if not, like someone else said earlier, the person who made this remix could make a new remix if given access to original mastertapes or copies of mastertapes transferred to hard disk :) |
Mr Mercury 09.03.2004 14:09 |
Billie, the Spread Your Wings sample (the picked “phased” guitar) is around 2.03 and at the ending. I think the Save Me sample is the “aeroplane” guitar – Smash may or may not confirm this |
inu-liger 09.03.2004 14:12 |
I've just written an e-mail to Smash, so hopefully I will have answers for you guys if he doesn't post here yet |
smash@mash 09.03.2004 15:37 |
He-he, now you're peering through the smoke looking for the trap doors and mirrors, LOL!! I will say though, that I didn't use phase inversion and eq-ing to get the vocals out on their own...:o) (The samples are used to provide the guitar part in the chorus.) Deacon Fan - please check your mail |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 16:28 |
Got the email :) It's a big one! Give me some time, hehe. |
Billie 09.03.2004 17:27 |
Thanks Deacon Fan and Mr Mercury for the answers. And Smash too. I'll listen to it again |
inu-liger 09.03.2004 18:20 |
DF, can you forward me that letter you got? Please and thanks |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 18:38 |
Which one? From Brian, Greg or Smash? LOL. Why don't I just give you my password? Would you like me to mail you my house keys too? :-P What are you wanting to know exactly? I'm not the type to forward someone's email to someone else :) |
inu-liger 09.03.2004 18:41 |
er....Both Brian and Smash, if that's possible. Please and thanks. dark_myuutwo@queenzone.com |
Penis - Vagina 09.03.2004 18:50 |
Well the Brian one isn't very exciting and I already pasted the whole thing once. If you're trying to authenticate my story, aside from the fact that my first letter was actually published on his site.... Message-ID: In-Reply-To: <20040307192435.1603.qmail@web41301.mail.yahoo.com> Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: multipart/alternative; boundary="B_3161640344_2755937" Content-Length: 2474 hmmm ..... VERY interesting ! Love Brian link (I use my Yahoo mail with my real name in it for serious business like this, LOL) And as for Smash, you've emailed him yourself so wait for a reply. Geez. |
smash@mash 09.03.2004 18:55 |
Hey while you're at it, can I have Brian's and Greg's, oh and any of those joke ones too...LOL!! (: P) (kidding btw) |
Adam Baboolal 09.03.2004 20:05 |
Interesting, Smash. So how did you get the vocals separated? Has it something to do with the Paris system? Adam. |
inu-liger 10.03.2004 14:17 |
You what would be nice? If this was made into a single, there could be a video of people dancing in New York at the club scene there, having a good time, with a screen showing Freddie singing in the background a la Michael Jackson's HIStory Remix video :).....Or maybe that's just wishful thinking :) |
smash@mash 10.03.2004 14:22 |
Adam - At this point I'd love to wax lyrical about the Paris System but, er, I've never heard of it LOL! Incidentally (and this is somewhat unbelievable too) but a baby was actually delivered in the Netherlands whilst this remix was playing in the delivery room at the expectant mothers request!!!!!!!!!!(baby nothing to do with me btw :o) link (2nd to last page I think) |
Queenland 10.03.2004 14:26 |
Hi Smash, My wife is a fan of The Cult and she asked me to congratulate you for that mix where you mixed Jim Morrison live with She Sells Sanctuary ! She posted the link on a Cult mailing list and people there are crazy about it now :-) Any chances of getting the other mix - that one which is offline at the moment ? |
Rien 10.03.2004 16:04 |
Before we all get too excited about how the song should really be done by Queen and what the video should look like (I admit I had my additional thoughts also) perhaps we should read Brian's letter concerning people who are bringing in ideas about the translations of the WWRY musical songs for other countries. He says that Queen has always done the things their own way (you can read the rest yourself). Nothing wrong with a bit of dreaming how things should be of course. |
inu-liger 10.03.2004 17:21 |
I sent Brian an e-mail asking if he was going to send Jim Beach a copy of this remix, not that I expect him to reply or anything :P (edit: weird, my post is on top when it should be below Rien's post) |
smash@mash 10.03.2004 18:07 |
Queenland - will put it up again for a limited time (just for your wife, lol!), I'll let you know when it's back on-line. edit - it's now on-line for a short while |
Dr Zoidberg 10.03.2004 19:05 |
There's a difference between not reading unsolicited script ideas because you don't want to get sued and hearing an unsolicited remix and deciding to essentially go into business with the remixer. A negative in the first instance does not preclude the possibility of a positive in the second instance. They're two very different circumstances. |
Saffron Caribou 10.03.2004 20:23 |
I don't want to be a killjoy, but I was at Brian's site just now and the news about smash's NY mix is there. It only said that it surfaced on here (it also has a link to QZ). Also it said that Brian has heard it, and it will be discussed. Now, the discussion thing didn't really rubbed me in the right way. Knowing how volatile Brian's mood is, it might be bad. On the other hand, it might be good. Who knows. But I wonder why it should be discussed?! |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 20:34 |
Hmmm.. VERY interesting! I'm still inclined to think it must be positive.. Now that I know they're aware of this thread I'm afraid to say anything else. LOL! Hi guys! |
Saffron Caribou 10.03.2004 20:40 |
I hope it is positive :) I think that if the majority of Queen fans actually liking a remix is a good thing. Brian should acknowledge that. However, if Brian just heard it and replied 'interesting' according to your email Jeffrey, that's a bit ambiguous. Why didn't Brian said 'I like it' or 'I hate it', but for leaving a bit of ambiguity in that snippet for further discussion sounds kind of scary LOL Let's hope for a good reaction :) |
Penis - Vagina 10.03.2004 20:46 |
Can you hop into the chat room for a bit Marie? |
Adam Baboolal 10.03.2004 21:49 |
I think it'll be ok. The only bad could be to do with an unsolicited mix. Who knows? I'm hoping it's good news. I'm sure Brian will get a kick out of the track. Adam. |
Penis - Vagina 11.03.2004 01:23 |
Actually reading it again, I think they may have put a brief mention just to let folks know that they are aware of it and to stop emailing them :-P Just a theory! |
Queenland 11.03.2004 06:50 |
Hi Smash, We saw your reply only now, and the Cult/Doors "Youth" mix unfortunately isn't there anymore... Apparently the short while was too sort... :-( But thanks anyway! |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 11.03.2004 15:08 |
I have the same impression, DF. But, hey, it's going to be discussed, that's great! Can you imagine if they decide to put a Queen + Smash single out? :D To Queenland: E aí, Henrique, qualé? Eu peguei as mixes. Qualquer coisa te passo por email. O meu é arnaldosilveiraATuol.com.xx . (Substitua "AT" pelo sinal de arroba e "xx" por "br"). Abraço! Cheers, Ogre- |
inu-liger 11.03.2004 17:32 |
"I have the same impression, DF. But, hey, it's going to be discussed, that's great! Can you imagine if they decide to put a Queen + Smash single out? :D" It's not really a Queen remix as it is, as it is just a Freddie demo remixed with Brian's guitar parts from those two other songs mixed in, so it's really a Freddie Mercury & Brian May + Smash project...unless Brian or Greg gives Smash access to mastertapes so he can make a special single remix. I would like to see this mix released as a single and made into a video somehow :) |
Big Black 11.03.2004 17:34 |
Absolutely impressive stuff, and despite the quality I think that it would open a Pandora's box for a Queen + anybody remix market. I can't see Jim Beach and company giving a cent to anyone for using copyrighted Queen material and samples to make their own mix. Having said that, fantastic initiative and I hope to be proven wrong even though I believe Queen lost their way when they went dance/pop-py and this song is in that vein. |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 11.03.2004 22:44 |
* bored * Yeah, Dark. I certainly know that. I meant an improved version, with better access to files given to Smash. I was not trying to be that precise. * rushes to hear it once more, to see if there is even a little of bass and drums from Queen there, maybe on the SYW part, just to prove Dark wrong. :) * |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 11.03.2004 22:53 |
Big Black, "I think that it would open a Pandora's box for a Queen + anybody remix market." I fully agree. Just dreaming :) Cheers, Ogre- |
Maz 11.03.2004 23:19 |
"I can't see Jim Beach and company giving a cent to anyone for using copyrighted Queen material and samples to make their own mix." But isn't that exactly what happened with Vanguard's Flash remix, and wasn't there also a remix of Living On My Own done in a similar fashion? I think money is money, and whatever makes them money, makes them money. (Money is the key factor here). The only floodgate that will be open is a rush of people who think they can produce good remixes. Too many remixes will kill the golden goose, I think, and that may limit QP's willingness. |

Impressive impressive work! |
iGSM 12.03.2004 04:04 |
I think it's great..better than my version of Another One Bites the Dust...the non-existant version. |
Queenland 12.03.2004 06:45 |
Hi Smash/Arnaldo Got the mix, thank you very much! No idea why the link did not worked for me yesterday :) |
Under Pressure 12.03.2004 08:51 |
Wow. Wonderful, except I think that some of the beginning synths are too similar to "Living on My Own." The rest is dynamite though. |
Adam Baboolal 12.03.2004 10:36 |
I believe that was the point UP. He does ask you remember 1993. The time when music was like that. A lot. Adam. |

I heard this "remix" today and rather enjoyed it. It certainly makes me wonder what could be done with Freddie's demos. |

I was just bopping to this when my dad walked in. He half listened to it and immediately wanted to know what it was so he could use it (he's a DJ). I just thought I would share! I like it a lot myself. Very fun! I think even my techno obsessed friends would enjoy this.. |

I read on QOL that according to the Hungarian Queen Fan Club, Jim Beach, Roger and Brian had a meeting on Friday and are planning to release the NY Mix as a single. link |
Adam Baboolal 14.03.2004 19:54 |
Uh hu... Smash, what do you say? |
iGSM 15.03.2004 05:59 |
Are they going to release the mix and some other remix..'cause having one song on a CD is a bit stupid...innit? |
Adam Baboolal 15.03.2004 08:25 |
Getting a bit ahead of things aren't you igsm? We don't really know what's happening, yet. |
Pim Derks 15.03.2004 08:31 |
To be honest, I can't imagine Brian and Roger meeting about a remix of a Freddie song.... Of course, it features some samples from BM, but I can't imagine they had a meeting with the Flash/LOMO'93 etc remixes. |

Very nice....impressive.....GREAT JOB! ....... |

Thanx again for all feedback. Rumours seem to be bulding at the moment - remember this is a demo of, ironically, a demo - there is nothing happening right now. |
Mr Mercury 15.03.2004 16:32 |
Smash, any chance of uploading the "Whispering Grass" mix as I'm curious to know what its sounds like? |
smash@mash 15.03.2004 18:18 |
He-he! Yes 'Green Grass Lofty' *ahem* Just a quick bit of nostalgic fun - rough as you like but somehow endearing. Won't put it back on-line if you don't mind, but I'll mail it to you. Send me an e-mail - your addys not shown on here :o) Smash |
Saffron Caribou 15.03.2004 19:28 |
Hehehe Smash. Glad you answered :D Keep up the good work :D |

I received the following translation of the hungarian post. The Translation Yesterday Jim Beach, Roger and Brian meet, and among others they discussed whether the Freddie-mix called "New York", which was made by a half professional mixer, should be come out officially or not. The reason for that was that the mp3, which contains one of the best unfinishes songs, and how "Freddie would have liked it", got quite good feedbacks from the fans. You can listen to it here. |

"The reason for that was that the mp3, which contains one of the best unfinishes songs, and how "Freddie would have liked it", got quite good feedbacks from the fans" Well, the unreleased demo's which leaked in the past few years got even better feedback. Yet there still aren't any boxsets.... I like the remix, but it's not a thing I'd like to see officially released. |
Adam Baboolal 19.03.2004 17:59 |
I certainly like the idea of this being discussed in this way. If it is actually being discussed. But, while I really love this remix, I think it needs something more. Maybe I'm really pining for a guitar solo! But heck, I'd be happy to be lumped with some extra guitar. More guitar! More guitar! More guitar! ;P Peace, Adam. |
smash@mash 28.03.2004 13:11 |
Any UK queen-zoners - the track was just aired on XFM's 'The Remix' show. |
Adam Baboolal 28.03.2004 14:19 |
How did you manage that? Were there any worries because of the content? |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 28.03.2004 21:19 |
Heya Smash! Congratulations!!!! :D Cheers, Ogre- |
queenrocks! 10902 29.03.2004 12:25 |
smash@mash,why don't you release it as a single in the UK and US you never know it could go to the top of the charts. P.S New York At Last is brill! |
inu-liger 29.03.2004 15:49 |
He'd have to go through a lot of legal stuff, as well as paying royalties, and cost of production is expensive, Queenrocks! |
Mr Mercury 30.03.2004 11:49 |
Well done Smash!! |
fairydandy 30.03.2004 18:42 |
Some of you might like to help in our efforts to get this released (and it was after all 'found' at QZ). If they did it for Vanguard they can do it for this surely? link |
