I have to admit to sometimes being partial to Freddie's original. Especially the extented version. But I really love the Queen version. Brian's additions are most noteable. Just great to have the whole of Queen playing that song. Adam. |
Daburcor? 06.03.2004 19:30 |
What Adam said. ;)*speaking of the blank posts* |
rhapsody__87 06.03.2004 19:32 |
I like Freddie's falsetto in the song. :) |
Adam Baboolal 06.03.2004 19:34 |
Shoot! I thought I had my finger on the backspace button, but it was the enter key. I'm on a laptop and I'm still not used to the keyboard layout. Woops! Sorry folks! |
iGSM 06.03.2004 20:09 |
I'm more partial to the Freddie version..just seems more...right. |
Daburcor? 06.03.2004 20:10 |

Daburcor? 06.03.2004 21:23 |
That CD set is WELL worth owning if you ask me! It has been a firm fave of mine since I got it! You won't regret the purchase! I guarantee! :D |
Maz 06.03.2004 23:15 |
How refreshing that someone would consider buying the cd due to a song, rather than take the easy way out and just download it. |
Elite 06.03.2004 23:18 |
well i did try to download it from Itunes.. hahaha.. but u got to pay for it that way so its not illegal... but i'd buy it, that one song opened my eyes to how amazing queen is... i love it!!!!i want to hear more.. |
Saint Jiub 07.03.2004 00:39 |
Freddie's version is bland and boring. I much prefer the heartier Queen version. |
Elite 07.03.2004 01:03 |
if i like the dramatic guitars, hits and breakdowns in this song are their any others u guys would suggest for me to check out? |
Banquo 07.03.2004 06:04 |
Check out the orginal I Was Born To Love, A cheesy 80's sound turned into a rock monster by Brian May I'm not saying Roger and John didn't help but it just sounds like a "Brian May" song on Made In Heaven. |
Sebastian 07.03.2004 07:31 |
The fact there are lot of guitars doesn't mean Brian participated more in the arrangement than Roger, John or David Richards. For that matter Back Chat is a Brian arrangement too |
jorge 09.03.2004 05:40 |
I like the original song(well, in fact is the same)but I don't like the arrangements, in fact almost Mr.Bad Guy album has a sound "very eighthies"(muy ochentero),never I liked the sound of the synthesizer (I Was Born To Love U,Livin'on my Own),always I liked more the sound of the guitars (Man Made Paradise,my favorite), although I consider it Man In Heaven video very pretentious but I like it,I prefer the new version, the new Queen/Richards arrangements(more recent) |
jorge 09.03.2004 06:07 |
Made In Heaven was my first Queen's CD (I didn't know many of Freddie's work like solist), when I saw it I think wow what title for the last gift of Fred for us, I always thought of the anger, in determination, in courage that would have Freddie to record this disk, upon listening Too Much Love Will Kill You for first time, I don't can avoid the tears, I put on in their shoes (freddie's shoes)How somebody could sing something like that?, in their last days, this album marked me forever, and I stopped seeing Freddie Mercury like an idol, I began to see him like a hero,my hero |
Oberon 09.03.2004 09:29 |
It may also be worth mentioning for those who don't know (and there seem some who are unaware of the solo material)that Heaven For Everyone can be found on the album 'Shove It' (circa 1988) which is by The Cross, Roger's band. Freddie sang the album version, Roger the single version. There are two other Cross albums ('Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know' and 'Blue Rock'). I think Mad Bad is the best. Blue Rock is okay. Shove It is interesting - I believe Roger wrote it mainly on his own and formed the band around it. The album seems to use Queen samples heavily. Also, My Life Has Been Saved was originally a b-side from the Miracle singles (Scandal single I think) and was beefed up for use on MIH. I sometimes wonder why MLHBS wasn't put on the Miracle album over songs like My Baby Does Me and Rain Must Fall. It's also better than Party and Khashoggi's Ship in my opinion, but it's not an album openener. While the solo stuff isn't Queen, it's usually good stuff in my opinion, and is interesting to see where the individual comes from in musical terms. If you haven't checked out the solo stuff, it's worth it. |
Sebastian 09.03.2004 12:28 |
I agree that Baby & Rain are not better than many songs that were left out of the album (Hang On In There, Chinese Torture, Stealin'...) |
The Real Wizard 24.03.2004 14:25 |
"How somebody could sing something like that?, in their last days" Sorry to burst your bubble, but the only songs Freddie recorded in summer 1991 were Mother Love, You Don't Fool Me, and A Winter's Tale. |
Kai Kurgan 24.03.2004 14:41 |
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but the only songs Freddie recorded in summer 1991 were Mother Love, You Don't Fool Me, and A Winter's Tale". --- Really, Guitar Hero? I agree with you as far as "Mother Love" and "A Winter's Tale" is concerned. But I always thought "Fool me" has been recorded earlier. Sounds so "80ies"... I'm sure the snipet of "Let me live" is from that period whilst "Beautiful days seems to be from the 70ies. |
fairy_mercury 24.03.2004 14:59 |
i'm not up on all of the Queen members solo work, but that will change soon enough...but i just love the album MAde in Heaven, doesn't matter when some of the songs were written or who they were written by, all in all i think it's a beautiful album, very reflective for me as a person...but hey what to i know? ;D |
Sebastian 24.03.2004 17:03 |
Dave Richards confirmed that You Don't Fool Me is from post Innuendo. Fred apparently finished Winter's Tale recordings (vocal or synths? no idea) nine days before he died |
The Real Wizard 24.03.2004 23:27 |
I tend to just listen to MIH as it is too, fairy_mercury. The album is very close to me in many ways, but it doesn't hurt to know when the songs were recorded. :) "But I always thought "Fool me" has been recorded earlier. Sounds so "80ies"... I'm sure the snipet of "Let me live" is from that period whilst "Beautiful days seems to be from the 70ies." Fred's voice definitely sounds post-Innuendo. As for Beautiful Day, Brian confirmed last year it was from The Game sessions in '80. Got my email, Kai? :) "Fred apparently finished Winter's Tale recordings (vocal or synths? no idea) nine days before he died" Wow! But can you confirm that? I don't think Freddie would have been in a good enough state then. He was going blind by that point... so sad. |
Kai Kurgan 25.03.2004 02:25 |
Sebastian, Guitar Hero: Thanks for driving away the "fog of ignorance" ;.) Very interessting, indeed! Hi, Bob! Got your mail and í'm burning, burning, burning... You'll hear from me very shortly... Sebastian: Just took a look at your site - incredible! I could read for hours and hours... |
iGSM 25.03.2004 09:04 |
*uses Jedi mind trick* No you don't. |
Sebastian 25.03.2004 12:17 |
Last year David cleared a discussion (I think it was in qonline and somebody here put the link for all of us) about wheter Mother Love or Winter's Tale was the last song Fred recorded. There are fans who claim that he said it was AWT, some others clain he said ML. So he said: "You have to realise that we were jumping from song to song all the time. We may have done the first verse for Winter's Tale before moving on to do the middle eight on Mother Love. I definitely remember him calling me up and saying he'd finally finished the lyrics for the last verse of Winter's Tale and could come in and sing it. After he had done this he told me to compile and edit the vocal takes myself, that he trusted me to do it, and didn't have the time. (He normally always sat with me to choose the vocal takes). Two days later I heard he was back in London. He died 10 days after that. I also remember him saying that Maggie could sing the last verse of Mother Love....it was his song after all." |
anato 25.03.2004 17:06 |
Yeah I can confirm that story. D Richards told me when i went to Mountain Studios that Fred recorded parts of Winter Tale and Mother Love about two weeks before he passed away. He said that those vocals were recored in the mixing room down stairs as Fred was to weak to go up the stairs ! When u listen to the songs in that context it gives the vocal performance Fred layed down a different perspective What a man ! |
LiveAidQueen 25.03.2004 18:08 |
I love Freddie's version. |
The Real Wizard 26.03.2004 02:43 |
Wow Sebastian, that's fascinating! iGSM, I believe the line is: "one dump...one turd...to fit John Deacon" |
