Daburcor? 02.03.2004 21:29 |
Sorry, I just HAD to say that! BILLY JOEL ROCKS! :D |
Mr.Jingles 02.03.2004 21:35 |
I saw him in 2002 with Elton John. One of the best concerts I've seen in my life. Billy Joel is not only a great showman, but a comedian as well. He jokes all the time, and even if you don't like his music it's guaranteed he'll make you laugh. |
Daburcor? 02.03.2004 21:41 |
"He jokes all the time, and even if you don't like his music it's guaranteed he'll make you laugh." I was actually JUST listening to his "An Evening of Questions And Answers... And A Little Music", And he is quite funny! If anyone has seen the "Inside The Actors Studio" with him on it, That's basically the gist of the CD I just mentioned. CLASS! |
D.Blythe 03.03.2004 00:38 |
The Elvis Presley and Beatles influences are palpable, even for a piano-based musician. I enjoyed the "Innocent Man" album, his most straightforward tribute to the 50's and 60's music that influenced him, especially Frankie Valli. Some other fave songs of mine are; "Say Goodbye to Hollywood", "I Go to Extremes", "Shameless", and "Downeaster Alexa". |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 03:03 |
Shameless is a great track! As with the whole of the "Storm Front" album! |
Farlander 03.03.2004 04:28 |
Billy's my favorite! I've seen him 4 times. Twice with Elton John (once in 2002 and once in their first tour together - 1994 or something), once solo (fifth row center!), and once for "Questions, Answers, and a Little Music". All fantastic. |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 04:42 |
I really hope he tours again... With or without Elton. I WANNA SEE HIM!!! LOL! |
Farlander 03.03.2004 05:11 |
The only problem with his concerts is that he has so many hits, so many "must plays" that he always plays pretty much the same stuff - the biggies. It was a real treat to hear him play "Vienna" when I saw him solo - wasn't expecting that. |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 05:19 |
I love Vienna. :| |
Mayboy 03.03.2004 09:43 |
I think hes great too :D Never been to one of his shows but ive heard good things from ppl who have :) "we didnt start the fire" is one of my all time favs |
deleted user 03.03.2004 10:33 |
Dan I love Billy Joel too. Do you like 'Captian Jack'? It's one of my faves. I prefer older Billy to newer though. |
deleted user 03.03.2004 12:36 |
"Blonde overrrr blueeeeeeeeeee..." ;^) |
Banquo 03.03.2004 13:32 |
Is the title of this topic the ultimate oxymoron or what! |
Erin 03.03.2004 14:12 |
I saw him with Elton last year, and throughly enjoyed myself..:-) |
iron eagle 03.03.2004 15:01 |
his early stuff get his early stuff... |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 15:05 |
"Blonde overrrr blueeeeeeeeeee..." Hell yeah! LOVE that song! "Is the title of this topic the ultimate oxymoron or what!" Uhhh... I don't follow you. |
Erin 03.03.2004 15:07 |
A REAL oxymoron would be - "Britney Spears ROCKS!!" :-) |
nil 03.03.2004 15:15 |
Haven't heard any of his stuff :( |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 15:16 |
Erin is right! You see, Billy Joel CAN indeed rock, While Britney Spears can not. ;) |
deleted user 03.03.2004 15:16 |
You haven't heard Billy Joel? Go find some qiuck! :) |
nil 03.03.2004 15:19 |
"Go find some qiuck! :)" I shall! |
Matti 03.03.2004 18:44 |
This dumb dumb dumb (I could go on) girl at my school said today, "I hate it when people listen to music from the 80's- like Billy Joel." You idiot, Billy Joel is awesome. |
deleted user 03.03.2004 18:50 |
Yeah, she's got a point - everyone should just stick to listening to current music cos it's much better and we don't want people to have diverse tastes... *ahem* ;^) |
MexQueenFM 03.03.2004 18:52 |
i think my mom has a cd of Billy, i might be wrong, i think it's titled on the 52th street? there's one song i like something to the lines of "it's my life" or something |
deleted user 03.03.2004 19:14 |
Right Mex! 52nd Street is a perfect example of killer song writing. Along with Cold Spring Harbour, Turn Styles, The Nylon Curtian, Songs In The Attick, Piano Man, The Stranger and so on. :) |
D.Blythe 03.03.2004 20:20 |
If you listen to "52nd Street", witness the beauty of "Honesty". One of Joel's best songs. When I saw Billy Joel with Elton John in Indianapolis back in 1994, I believe, Joel introduced "Honesty" by saying "this one's for Christy (Brinkley)" |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 22:05 |
"Yeah, she's got a point - everyone should just stick to listening to current music cos it's much better and we don't want people to have diverse tastes..." You... Sicko... I knew you were not to be trusted. @_@ |
Daburcor? 03.03.2004 23:06 |
"52nd Street is a perfect example of killer song writing. Along with Cold Spring Harbour, Turn Styles, The Nylon Curtian, Songs In The Attick, Piano Man, The Stranger and so on." *cough*riverofdreams*cough* |

Daburcor? 04.03.2004 15:33 |
LMAO! I take it back! You're trustworthy... Just... stop blowing the raspberries, You're getting spit all over my stuff! |
Daburcor? 04.03.2004 16:48 |
"I never listened to that one Dan. :)" Go! BUY IT! LISTEN TO IT!!! And DON'T come back until you do!!!!! *ahem* |
deleted user 04.03.2004 17:41 |
hehehe ok Dan...... What is it like? Is it really 'pop-ish'? Thats one reason why I don't care for his 'newer' stuff. However I do LOVE Downeaster Alexa. A magnifisent song! :) |
Daburcor? 04.03.2004 17:49 |
Well, The album (in my opinion) is second only to Queen's "Innuendo" (actually, maybe tied). It is such a brilliant piece of work! My favorite of his (and many others for that matter) by far! And as for The Downeaster 'Alexa', I LOVE that song! I have been trying to hammer that one out lately on the ol' keyboard. ;) |
Matti 04.03.2004 17:57 |
I love the album Glass Houses I think it's called? Anyways, it's great. But pretty much all of his stuff is so.... |
deleted user 04.03.2004 18:06 |
Alright Danno...... I'll do it. But if I don't like it, I'M COMIN' FOR YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Daburcor? 04.03.2004 18:15 |
No... If you don't like it I'M coming for YOU! Oh and Matti, Glass Houses IS awesome! :D "There's nothing in it for youuuuuu, cos I'm giving it allll to Leynaaaa..." |
deleted user 04.03.2004 18:46 |
'don't want anyone new cause I'm living it all for Leynaaaaa AWSOME SONG! *shivers in corner looking out for Dan* @_@ |
Daburcor? 04.03.2004 18:49 |
"*shivers in corner looking out for Dan* @_@ " *shakes fist in the air* As you should. |
deleted user 04.03.2004 18:50 |
Just for a gigle.... I had that cd in the car (Glass Houses) and my wife later was singing 'I'm saving it all for later'. I asked what is that? And she told me...and i laughed myself silly and said 'no Kim, it's 'All For Leyna'. LOL! |
deleted user 04.03.2004 18:58 |
*gets in one more raspberry* |
Daburcor? 04.03.2004 19:02 |
Awwww... C'mon! You're just EVIL! |
CatGurl14 04.03.2004 19:54 |
I looove Billy Joel and Elton John. I wanted to go see them a few years ago but my dad didn't realize I liked them enough. :( :P lol But the Piano Man rocks! :D I've known the lyrics to We Didn't Start The Fire since I've liked music in general! lol |
Farlander 04.03.2004 22:02 |
So...who has all of Billy's albums? I do. |
D.Blythe 04.03.2004 22:46 |
"Downeaster Alexa" Love it,too. Speaking as a Gordon Lightfoot fan, I have always thought it would be a great song for him to cover. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 00:35 |
I have most of Billy's albums. I'm missing "The Bridge". Though, I ownwed it once. Now I can't find it in the stores... LOL! I LOVE his 4CD greatest hits collection! It's one of my most prized possessions! :D |
Maz 05.03.2004 00:40 |
You got his DVDs, Dan? |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 00:42 |
Uhhh... I have Greatest Hits 3 and Ultimate Billy Joel on DVD. I plan to get Live At Yankee Stadium... Eventually... LOL! Are there any others? |
Maz 05.03.2004 00:48 |
I think that is all, at least the official ones. I was addicted to GH3 for a while there, several years ago, but I grew out of that stage. Anyone remember Billy's appearance on SNL when he also showed up in a skit, some German-Hollywood Squares type thing? |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 00:51 |
Nope but... I WANNA SEE IT!!! :P |
Maz 05.03.2004 00:54 |
As the skit was in "German," the joke was that Billy kept saying "Glockenspiel," then would quickly play one. He was also the musical guest, performing We Didnt Start the Fire and Downeaster Alexa, which makes it a 1989-ish show. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 00:56 |
Aw... I wish I'd seen that... :'( |
Maz 05.03.2004 01:04 |
Well whippersnapper, if you had been born in the 1970s like I was, you probably could have. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:08 |
I watched SNL most weeks all those years ago (you know how children LOVE to stay up late!). Though, I didn't really understand much but the physical comedy until about 91' or so. Maybe some network will smile on me and re-run it.;) |
Maz 05.03.2004 01:13 |
link Yeah, I'm avoiding real work right now. Opening monologue had Victoria Jackson, and her ditzy blond voice, during a voice-over for Kathleen Turner. "Die Squaren Ost Berliner" was the skit with Billy. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:15 |
Ooh! Cool! Thanks Zeni! :D By the way, Did you see the episode of "Inside The Actors Studio" with Billy on it? It was awesome! |
Maz 05.03.2004 01:18 |
I think I have it on tape somewhere, along with a couple appearances on the Tonight Show. I like the insight he gives on songs. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:19 |
Ooh! I have seen the one John Malkovich and Billy though! I remember hearing the "River of Dreams" album for my first (of many) times earlier on in that week actually! And here i thought that gym class was just rubbish! |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:20 |
And, I agree with what you said about his insight to songs! I love hearing what he has to say! :D |
Mr.Jingles 05.03.2004 01:32 |
The guy hasn't recorded a pop/rock studio album in more than 10 years. I hope he thinks about heading back to the studio soon. |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:44 |
His classical album was ace (released in 2000)! But, I also hope he goes back into the studio with some new material. COME OUT OF "RETIREMENT" BILLY!!!! |
pma 05.03.2004 01:53 |
I've been wanting to get my hands on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" performance of Billy Joel, ever since they broadcast it here on tv as part of "Rock Masters" series (and my tape is ruined unfortunately) It appears to be STILL due for release... link link |
Daburcor? 05.03.2004 01:59 |
Oh wow! I'd LOVE to have that! |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 13:07 |
Ooh! Old topic! Anyway, I just got ahold of Billy's "The Bridge", And I think it is a stunning album! I had heard it before, Even owned it onece, But I never gave it much thought. When I went and sold a CRAP-LOAD of my CD's about a year or two ago, I sold it as well. What a HUGE mistake THAT was! This is one HECK of an album!!! There isn't a song on it that I don't love! :D Anyone else like it? |
Farlander 29.03.2004 14:22 |
Of course! Running on Ice A Matter of Trust This is the Time Baby Grand Big Man on Mulberry Street Temptation Code of Silence Getting Closer Modern Woman These are all fanstastic tracks! Actually...I think I just named every track on the album. Well, just goes to show it's an awesome album. |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 14:30 |
LOL! Yup! That's all of them! I REALLY like Code Of Silence! And I'm not too big on Cyndi Lauper. ;) |
deleted user 29.03.2004 16:00 |
*dances to "Movin' Out"* ;^) |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 16:08 |
ROTFLMAO!!! GO MANDA, GOOOOO!!!!!! |
rhapsody__87 29.03.2004 16:18 |
I can't stand Billy Joel's voice... *prepares to be bombarded with mean replies* :D |
rhapsody__87 29.03.2004 16:20 |

Maz 29.03.2004 17:44 |
Recently found some bootlegs. I always liked him live. You should find some of those, Dan. I'd think you'd like it. |
Farlander 29.03.2004 17:53 |
"LOL! Yup! That's all of them! I REALLY like Code Of Silence! And I'm not too big on Cyndi Lauper. ;)" Well, she doesn't have much more than a backing vocal part, really, thank God. I think she is credited as co-writer of the lyrics, though. I don't know how much of those she really wrote, though. They're pretty good lyrics, either way. I have a pretty cool remix of Modern Woman that contains a bridge that isn't in the album version of the song. Shoot me an e-mail (cgraye@glue.umd.edu) if you're interested in hearing it. |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 18:11 |
Ooh! I'd love to hear that! That song is great! :D |
Daburcor? 29.03.2004 18:13 |
"Recently found some bootlegs. I always liked him live. You should find some of those, Dan. I'd think you'd like it." I have always quite liked him live as well, I just recently went to the library and they had an old (as old as your truly) concert VHS from Long Island, And it is GREAT! As for bootlegs... I'm quite interested in that! Any clue where I should start looking? I've never been to good at finding rare things from anyone. LOL! |
Maz 30.03.2004 02:53 |
Give me a couple weeks, Danno. I might be able to swing you a copy of some stuff I got. Of course, I'm horribly late and behind in my commitments. So don't hate me if it takes awhile. |
Daburcor? 30.03.2004 09:00 |
@_@ FOR REAL!? Wow... |
Daburcor? 30.03.2004 20:08 |
Farlander... Thank you very much! :D |
Farlander 30.03.2004 20:53 |
No prob. |
Maz 18.05.2004 00:06 |
Hey Dan Can't find your email address now. Send me an email, I got something you might like. |
Daburcor? 18.05.2004 08:31 |
Ooh! Okay! :D |
