No new thread about this amazing event? :-P Frankly I could care less this year as I haven't seen but two or three of the films mentioned, but I must say Annie Lennox was the highlight of the show. She looked fantastic, sang beautifully and she even won :) Thank goodness she's no longer wearing Minnie Mouse ears to awards shows. |

I am very happy that LOTR won all of the noms it had! I just wish I hadn't fallen asleep and missed the whole damned show! :p |
deleted user 01.03.2004 07:10 |
Finally LOTR gets all that they deserve. I enjoyed watching the show, as this year all the people won that I wanted to win...that usually never happens. ;^) |
Daburcor? 01.03.2004 07:40 |
Did you get to see the whole show Manda? |
deleted user 01.03.2004 07:46 |
I stayed up till about 10pm, but decided to go to bed since I was already late for bed. I just had my sister come and wake my up when the show was over to tell me the results. Btw, I was quite disappointed with the best actor/actress results - I was hoping Bill Murray and Keisha Castle-Hughes would win. Oh, and I thought the dresses weren't as good this year as they were last year! |
*the Time Guardian* 01.03.2004 09:50 |
LOTR deserved it Billy Crystal was cool Johnny Depp was lovely :P |
Lester Burnham 01.03.2004 09:55 |
It's a shame, I don't think Lord Of The Rings won enough. Yes, that was sarcasm. They should've named it "Oscars: Lord Of The Rings" edition. I had to turn it off because it got so annoying after awhile, but I find all award shows useless, anyway. Pah. |
deleted user 01.03.2004 11:07 |
Na na na na na naaaaaaaaaah @ Lester! ;^P |

I began to fall asleep so I recorded the last 2.5 hours and watched with the benefit of fast-forward later. |
Under Pressure 01.03.2004 12:59 |
Well, I don't agree with most of the awards they won. Best Picture - Mystic River. Best Director - Clint Eastwood. Best Makeup - Monster (it wasn't nominated?) Best Song - Kiss at the End of the rainbow (c'mon, at least it's in the movie - they publicised "into the west" as "we wrote this for a boy who DIED so if you don't vote you'll feel GUILTY!") Best Score - I agree. Best Art Direction - I agree. Best Film Editing - WORST EDITED FILM I'VE EVER SEEN. Best Costume Design - Boooring. Girl with a Pearl Earring was much more interesting. Best Sound Mixing - Sure. Best Adapted Screenplay - Yeah right. They forgot the most important part; EDITING OUT THE CRAP. Best Visual Effects - Sure. Whatever. |
MexQueenFM 01.03.2004 13:26 |
I'm glad LOTR got all the oscars where they were nominated :) |
Virtuoso 01.03.2004 16:09 |
NOOOOOOOO!!Bill Murray deserved the oscar...anyway the show was alot better than last year's one. |
deleted user 01.03.2004 16:12 |
"Best Song - Kiss at the End of the rainbow (c'mon, at least it's in the movie - they publicised "into the west" as "we wrote this for a boy who DIED so if you don't vote you'll feel GUILTY!")" - Oh, come on. I guess we'll just assume that they didn't even think that "Into the West" was a genuinely good song and that they just gave them the Oscar out of pity. What a lame excuse. |
geeksandgeeks 01.03.2004 17:01 |
I totally agree with you abut Best Picture, Under Pressure. "Man of the Hour" should have been nominated for and won best song. Out of the nominees, I love Annie Lennox, but that "Scarlet Tide" song was a treasure. |
Margo 01.03.2004 18:22 |
i wanted keisha castle-hughes to win. she was good. I also wanted ellen degeneres to be nominated for whatever she could be nominated for (best actress in an animated film? best comedian in a film? hottest person over 40? take your pick.) |
Mr.Jingles 01.03.2004 19:11 |
I wonder why Bill Murray took it so hard when he lost to Sean Penn. He was in tears and he was almost ready to stand up and walk out, until Billy Crystal said... 'Don't go Bill, we love you!'. I've always liked Bill Murray, but last night he was just a bad sport. Other than that, very well deserved awards given last night. I have nothing to complain about. |
Pluto 01.03.2004 20:12 |
starts to chant LOTR softly then gets louder as the night goes on |
Virtuoso 01.03.2004 21:20 |
yeah...I guess so Mr.Jingles, but Bill almost won all the awards for best actor in every events organized this year. |
Hoder 02.03.2004 05:25 |
LOTR rules!! I just love Tolkien and I think that 11 oscars was just O.K. for that film :-) |
Fenderek 02.03.2004 08:32 |
Bill Murray should have won... LOTR- too many... It's good, but not THAT good... Glad that 'Finding Nemo" got some as well. And Billy Crystal was cool... |
Virtuoso 03.03.2004 00:43 |
Oh,and btw, that's Bill being Bill! Not alot of people got it,but...he was actualy kidding. |
Krowa003 03.03.2004 01:16 |
I'm glad Sean Penn and Tim Robbins took some awards for their awesome performances in "Mystic River". I just wish Clint Eastwood had taken the awards for best picture and best director. After all, he deserved them for "Mystic River". As much as I am a Tolkien fan and saw all the movies in theatres, the only reason LOTR got rewarded was because it involved a lot of cast and crew. Otherwise, there's nothing special about staging large battle scenes that ivolve computer generated images. |

"Best Song - Kiss at the End of the rainbow (c'mon, at least it's in the movie - they publicised "into the west" as "we wrote this for a boy who DIED so if you don't vote you'll feel GUILTY!")" That was a really unfair thing to say. Said boy was Cameron Duncan, who incidentally was quite well known here and was a very, very talented filmmaker. He was good friends with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, and was supposed to have been helping them with the movie which would have been a hell of a break for him, and he'd have had quite a filmmaking career set up for him. Except that he got cancer and died. I think that they were entirely justified in dedicating Into the West to him. And it had nothing to do with guilt trips. |

All the songs that were performed at the gala (all moninees?) were simply terrible. It's hard for me to understand how anyone can like them. What comes to LOTR, I'm not going to say what I think because it will hurt lots of feelings. I'll just say that that movie can't be taken seriously and given serious awards. That's rediculous. Well, what was good then? Master & Commander got two well deserved Oscars and should have got a couple more, like in the Best Actor category (but it wasn't even nominated) and in Best Directing. The gala was well organized this year. It wasn't too long, which was a very pleasant surprise. There's though one thing that makes me furious about all these Award galas: the commercial breaks. The Golden Globes were a tragedy. I was watching it in the middle of the night and there was a commecrial break every 10 or 15 minutes (I'm not even exagerrating). The Oscars weren't quit that annoying, but I still don't understand why they have to have commercials at all. Can't the Academy just sponsor the whole shit and make the gala watchable? It's not like they don't have money. |
Under Pressure 06.03.2004 12:14 |

Virtuoso 06.03.2004 15:59 |
And...Russell Crowe wasn't good enough to be nominated this year!! |
Whisperer 06.03.2004 16:53 |
Virtuoso, that's what YOU think. In my opinion he certainly deserved a nomination and a win. (The 2002 Award was also robbed from him, because he had that incident with the BAFTA producer. Fuck the Academy!) |
dragonzflame 06.03.2004 18:10 |
>>Blast thee, New Zealand! Out does Australia 11-2. Whoot. |
Virtuoso 06.03.2004 21:50 |
That's what the academy and I agree on,Russell didn't deserve the oscar, period. But they did robbed him 2 years ago,Denzel's performance IMO wasn't comparable to Crowe's one. BTW,as I know ,you're a big Russell fan.So your opinion will undoubtly be uncrediteble for such jugments. |
Whisperer 07.03.2004 04:42 |
You're right :-)))) But still my opinions about the other categories count, I hope... |
Saffron Caribou 16.03.2004 22:12 |
I know this topic is old, but the ceremony was a snoozer. Because it was very predictable, but I'm glad that LOTR won. However, I was pissed off that The Mighty Win and Bill Murray were robbed grrrr |
MexQueenFM 16.03.2004 22:55 |
I actually though Lost in Translation was the most boring movie ever, and Bill Murray sucked, just my opinion |
deleted user 16.03.2004 22:59 |
*gasp* that's one of my favorite movies ever...! |
MexQueenFM 16.03.2004 23:00 |
"*gasp* that's one of my favorite movies ever...!" i guess it's a chick flick? i dunno, but not for me, my dad hated it too |

I thought it was a very endearing story, but that may just be me. ;^) |
MexQueenFM 16.03.2004 23:10 |
"I thought it was a very endearing story, but that may just be me. ;^)" I don't think you would like to know what i think of it :) was the movie Oscar nomitated? or just Bill? |
deleted user 16.03.2004 23:13 |
The movie got numerous noms and Bill got nominated for best actor. |
Saffron Caribou 16.03.2004 23:14 |
Lost In Translation was nominated for Best Film too. I LOVED it. *sigh* I don't think it was a chick flick, it was sentimental though. If only I knew what Bill Murray whispered at the end. |
MexQueenFM 16.03.2004 23:15 |
"I don't think it was a chick flick, it was sentimental though. If only I knew what Bill Murray whispered at the end." He said "nos pasamos de lanza, que pelicula tan mas gacha" it's weird, but most Oscar nomitated movies are so boring for me, why cant' they nominate Scary Movie and the like? lol :) |
Virtuoso 17.03.2004 07:54 |
Sorry Mex,but this movie WASN'T a chick flick at all.You probably just didn't get it.This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. It's the story of 2 lost persons sleepwalking through life. What I loved about it was it's mainly the movies simplicity,it really reflects life as it is in sort situation. It's not like those big hollywood type of movies when the dialogues seams like they were already praticed, when u can easily see what's coming up next. No!You can actualy see sometimes the awkardness between the two of them, you know when there's that 'gauche' moment when the two are interacting with each others.I can see this 'something' which I don't know how to explain, but there's this something indescribable that makes that great relantionship work! Also, their friendship is what makes the movie,it's the base of it. Both performance are undeniable.-Scarlett's simple way to act is just breathtaking, she's so good at what she does, she keeps it real.IMO,she deserved at least a nomination.Murray's best acting role since 'groundhoug day'.He's such a natural actor, the role suited him very well, imo,he merited the oscar. I really don't know what to say, there's something about this movie...I don't know, something so real about it,it's just so hard to explain. It got me in a way which only some movies did.The last movie that made me feel that way was... Citizen Kane!!Anyway, great movie indeed! |

Mr.Jingles 17.03.2004 10:43 |
My respects to Bill Murray, but there's no way that his performance was better than Sean Penn's in Mystic River. 'Lost In Translation' is still a great movie. Very simple story, but very touching in the end. |
MexQueenFM 17.03.2004 12:20 |
hmm, ok, i seem to be one of the few people that didn't like it, it makes me sleepy :) , but you have your opinions i accept them :) , maybe i'm wrong :) |
