Education Secretary Rod Paige called the nation's largest teachers union a "terrorist organization" Monday, taking on the 2.7-million-member National Education Association early in the presidential election year.Does anyone really think in this post 9-11 America, that accusing people of being terrorists is a good joke?
What would happen if, while walking through airport security, I called someone--even MENTIONED the word--terrorists?

Sure it is an exaggeration, but it is a good analogy.
Every fall in the Chicagoland area, teachers in several outer suburban school districts hold hostage young students and taxpayers, so they can further raise their salaries AND PENSIONS further above $100,000 (highest paid anyway) for only 9 months work ... so that they can retire in their mid-fifties on the government dime.
Only 9 months work? My father is a teacher and he certainly works during the holidays, as most teachers do. The amount of planning, marking and other work that can only be done out of school hours is staggering.
Here in the USA, most teachers have the summer off ... add tenure for unquestionable job security. I suppose tenure is a minor quibble, considering most teachers are competent, if not excellent. Still, I recall four of my high school teachers as being less than stellar (two were promoted to school administration), but such is tenure ...
