hi All,
Ever since the demise of our various MP3 servers, i have been pondering ways to get unreleased live Queen shows in the hands of fans.
I am closely looking at bittorent. I use it for downloading movies, tv shows, music, etc and i think that it could be a good way to distribute Queen shows.
in short bittorent allows you to download files, whilst you are sharing those same files as you download. It is free of adware, spyware, and it forces people to share (to some extent).
More thorought explanations can be found at: link link
Anyway, the reason i am writing this is to ask if anyone is interested in helping out in this project. In order for a torrent to start off, it needs a number of seeds. A seed is a person that has the complete file(s) and just distributes it to people.
in order to be a seed you would need a broadband connection, either ADSL, cable, fibre optic or something.
Is anyone interested in helping out?
Best wishes,
Richard
Bit Torrent is good but it does have some problems. If you are downloading something and somebody stops seeding you are quite often left with nothing.
Its a good idea though.
Hi,
Just to let you all know that this is going to happen in April.
I am setting up a tracker on my server, and will hopefully be releasing a concert every week or so.
The concert will be in Flac or SHN format.
Richard
Any easy way of downloading (like an FTP) would be cool! I'm not that big a fan of the hub.
I was really sad to see the old server and the poker server go! I really wish I had downloaded more! If anything goes ahead I would love to share what I have, even though it is very little...
shn. is a lossless format whereas shn is lossy. MP3 gets rid of some of the frequencies to make the file smaller.
Shn (and flac) makes the file smaller without having to get rid of any information.
The only drawback is that the files are larger than mp3. usually about 20mb per song. This probably means that only people with broadband connections are going to find it that useful.
however, if demand is there, we might release an mp3 show everyonce and a while.
For me it is not a problem to bring up some flac shows of Queen live shows. If people want shn files, it is not a problem to convert them from flac to shn.
I hope for sure that this bittorent project makes his succes.
For Queen-fans all over the world they can pick up this files and can help other fans to get them.
It is a little simular to the queenhub. Only difference is that you can get files from different sources at the same time and that the spreading of files over the net goes much faster.
But...till that time...Queenfans are welcome in the Queenhub. For more information visit this site: link
If you want to join the hub, you can send an email to: thequeenhub@yahoo.com
Richard, I wil help you the bitorrent project.
I've shared one Queen show (+ some Elton John ones)
on sharingthegroove, I find BT much better for sharing
to a large group of people than the hub, however
the amount of leeches, who don't keep their downloads
is a problem as usual. It's not too fun to share stuff, if only 20% of downloaders keep their windows open after...

The hub is always going to be a treasure-trove for Queen fans. Bittorrent isn't going to offer an archive service. It is going to be a bit like riding a wave.
