Its strange , i keep listening to queen all day , in years to years and i still dont get bored of them.... but i think that if it wasnt for freddie, the song woulnt be as timeless as they are , what do you think?
I have to say Queen's music DOES sound quite timeless. Lately I've been listening a lot to the Beatles, Genesis and other 60's / 70's acts - and their output still is great, but some tracks sound somewhat dated - something which I haven't got with most of the Queen output (except for the 80's commercial crap).
The only Queen tracks I can think of that sound dated are the ones post 1980 with the use of synths. By the time of Innuendo the synths sounded realistic enough so you don't really notice, but for about ten years the output was possibly spoilt by them. A couple of things on Jazz sound very much of their time, but generally Queen are very timeless.

SO TRUE...
Just yesterday I went through my CD collection listening to things like "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" or King Crimson's "Red" etc. and... some of the tracks sounded quite... stale...? Whereas every time I put QUEEN- it's just bloody great...! But maybe I'm still in love with all the Queen's 70s material and...I hear what I want to hear...?
That 80s stuff you call "crap" is still timeless. Hence why radio stations still play it.
Some people just lack the brains to realize that the music of a band has to evolve and change while still keeping their own musical identity, and Queen suceeded at that.
" I can't really think of any other band that is as timeless as Queen. "
The Police can be one of them : only bass drums guitar voice, good production et very few synths.

I agree. Although Queen, the band, were fabulous and great, it was, in my opinion, Freddie, who really gave something incredibly special to the music--his voice, his presence, his uniqueness. He was one-of-a-kind and certainly shone bright as the lead singer of one of the greatest and most innovative bands ever.

Hence so many people that I'm sure would love first few albums don't even know that they exist... Queen they know is Ga-Ga or Break Free and... they're not interested... Not surprised, to be honest. It gets annoying cause you can hear maybe 2 or 3 songs over and over again... and they are clearly not the best the band recorded...
