It's strange to think that, with the new Pepsi ad, there is a possibility Britney or the others may actually be listening to something like Queen II. :) I just can't picture any of them actually listening to something like that hehe. (Or at least News Of The World.) |
Flashman 25.01.2004 18:21 |
On the contrary, I can picture Britney doing all sorts of wonderful and interesting things... |
FriedChicken 25.01.2004 18:21 |
I know Pink is a Queen fan, so i guess she already heard Queen II |
QueenSite 25.01.2004 18:27 |
many people define themselves as Queen fans and they just know about the Platinum collection... |
Whatinthewhatthe? 25.01.2004 18:32 |
Britney grew up on Madonna, obviously! I think Beyonce would probably have the musical diversity to listen to Queen. Pink, maybe -- but watch out Anita -- she may try to steal Brian away from you!! :-) |
Saffron Caribou 25.01.2004 18:43 |
You know what Anita should be FUMING lol Once a cheater always a cheater :P |
MexQueenFM 25.01.2004 19:55 |
"On the contrary, I can picture Britney doing all sorts of wonderful and interesting things..." hmm *picturing Britney* , she does have the flexibility... |
Whatinthewhatthe? 25.01.2004 21:00 |
Maybe she'll marry Justin Trousersnake next time? And then take a turn with Brian or Roger... Yes, she steals hearts, stomps on them and runs away... |
Brandon 25.01.2004 22:22 |
What makes you think Beyonce is any different from Pink or especially Britney? Beyonce is just another clone. End of story. |
Adam Baboolal 25.01.2004 23:16 |
What I'm more worried about is where this is going. Do you all realise that you started a thread called Britney, because you felt compelled to spread your hate? I find this to be strange behaviour. We all have preference to who we like or don't like, and those that get involved with Brian and Roger's music. But it's THEIR life/job and that should be respected. And respect to those who get involved. This is most disturbing... Peace, Adam. |
Brandon 25.01.2004 23:25 |
"What I'm more worried about is where this is going. Do you all realise that you started a thread called Britney, because you felt compelled to spread your hate?" --Hate? I think it's called an opinion. A bit thin-skinned, aren't we? I find this to be strange behaviour. We all have preference to who we like or don't like, and those that get involved with Brian and Roger's music. But it's THEIR life/job and that should be respected. And respect to those who get involved. --If noone ever expressed their opinions, this place wouldn't be much fun would it? Kinda silly if you ask me. Whatever Brian/ Roger do is open to acclaim AND criticism. I can't wait for the ad, however, I understand the complaints that go along with moving more commercial. But whatever. To me, it sounds like you're trying censor critical posts. And on top of that, I see nothing "hateful" in the opeing post, he simply said he couldn't imagine Britney listening to Queen. I can't imagine my great grandmother listening to Queen either, but that doen't mean I hate her. |
Lester Burnham 26.01.2004 00:19 |
Well said, Brandon. |
Adam Baboolal 26.01.2004 11:33 |
I knew I should've done a bigger post. I'm not against having an opinion. That's just dumb. I'm just fed up hearing about, Brian's this and Roger's that. A lot of the real threads here are now in danger of being overrun by posts of dislike for Queen and their decisions. Oh sorry, Brian and Roger. It's all doom and gloom here. And then came the "we hate Britney" clan. Hey, so did I for a while. But then I realised that it's wrong to not like someone because of what they do in their professional life. Usually because it's not them. It's their job. The only reason I said "hate" was due to the posts people had been making on this board recently. Some in this one, too: "Maybe she'll marry Justin Trousersnake next time? And then take a turn with Brian or Roger... Yes, she steals hearts, stomps on them and runs away..." Look at the "Corporate whores!!!" thread. That thread is unbelievably neagative. The "Remember the Queen Pepsi Ad?" thread. Again, more of the same. There's just this huge negative vibe! I just find it boring and to be honest, petty. We may or may not like it. But does it really anger you -that- much? Peace, Adam. |
Brandon 26.01.2004 12:11 |
I don't get angry. Life's too funny to be run around whining like a baby. And I'm not sure if English is your first language or not, but "hate" is often used not to express feelings of ill-will, disdain, or actual hatred but also to express annoyance (IE - I hate the store - the lines are always so long.") You can check out my post in the "Corporate Whores" thread, that's another goofy thread. But you never answered my question - if no-one expressed altenative opinions, why bother coming to QZ anymore anyway? We can only talk about how wonderful "Ogre Battle" is so many times! |
Adam Baboolal 26.01.2004 14:17 |
Actually I did answer your question - "I'm not against having an opinion. That's just dumb." But you must admit, why is everyone so annoyed? Did people get annoyed when Brian did the Driven by You ad? No. Gee, I wonder why. Peace, Adam. |
Brandon 26.01.2004 14:33 |
I never said you were against having opinions, only when people express them do you seem to take offense. I agree with you on your position, just not trying to make everyone get along. |

Perfect example of the state of things... 94.3 in Fairmont WV plays WWRY/WATC, dj comes on and rants for five minutes about "selling out and making a buck..." How embarrassing. Not only is it difficult to get a radio station in my area to play Queen, and when they do, the reaction is that the boys have sold out to Britney and the Pepsi colossus. Well, I agree. The Foo Fighters gig in NYC for the RnR Hall of Fame was real -- But Britney? Pinq? Beyonce? That kind of pop music is TRULY disposable. Have Brian and Roger turned to leather and hanging out in bars in Munich? Do they write songs on a synthesizer now? Once again, John Deacon is a GENIUS!!! |
Banquo 26.01.2004 15:36 |
I'll pass judgement when I have actually heard it. Which should be the basis for any judgement. |
Fenderek 26.01.2004 15:41 |
< Because it was a decent rock number...? In a decent version... Not a cheesy re-recording... Just maybe... |
Lester Burnham 26.01.2004 15:47 |
Has anyone actually heard the track? |
Matti 26.01.2004 17:37 |
Arg! I'm so sick of britney spears I could throw up!!!!!! Sorry. |

"To me, it sounds like you're trying censor critical posts." Ahh, the story of my life at this place, summed up in a sentence. You're the man, Brandon. |
geeksandgeeks 27.01.2004 19:00 |
Adam...would it be wrong for me to say, I love you, man? Listen to him, folks. It's a stupid commercial. NO ONE is going to remember Queen because their former guitarist and drummer starred in a Pepsi commercial (okay, I'll say it now - I HATE PEPSI - but that's completely beside the point). NO ONE! And let's face it, Britney, Pink, and Beyonce are COMPLETELY HARMLESS. Yes, their music is bad and I would not listen to it by choice, but it's stupid fun for some people. No one's going to remember them any more than they're going to remember the Ohio Express or the 1910 Fruitgum Company. There's no POINT in hating Britney. Unlike certain truly awful artists (Saliva, Creed, Godsmack), she doesn't make me want to run from the room screaming. |
7Innuendo7 27.01.2004 19:20 |
GnG, I really enjoyed your post. Sure, Britney may look harmless, but the success of her music only encourages the practices of companies like Clear Channel to promote certain bands or artists at venues and also encourages big labels to get away with exorbitant cd prices, hence download piracy. The medium is the message. Britney is harmless in and of herself, sure; but ask any REAL musician what she represents and it's the death of real music. Soulless, lifeless, blah!!! Queen album I might associate Britney with (if I was drunk and stoned and legally insane) -- Hot Space Pinq -- The Game Beyonce -- Jazz What I'd REALLY like to see: Aretha Franklin -- "Somebody to Love" (somebody cut her a check now!) Whitney Houston -- "These are the Days of Our Lives" LeAnn Rimes -- "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" Brody from the Distillers -- "Sheer Heart Attack" The Donnas -- "Keep Yourself Alive" Ani DiFranco -- "You Don't Fool Me" You know, I noticed something in the Body Language video, maybe you have also: when Freddie's screaming 'I want your body,' he's singing to some Aretha-type dancers, and I'm wondering if he might be saying something about what he wants for his vocal tone, since singing would be 'body language.' Just a thought... Love Mac |
Adam Baboolal 27.01.2004 19:50 |
I just think that people get the person at the other end, wrong. Britney Spears gets a shitty time from the press and then suddenly an uprising of people in the public start badmouthing her. Same happened with Robbie Williams and the same is true of others in the past. This is what I do not like. And it's the press' fault. Their motto says it all, "We made you and we can knock you down." I may not like Robbie's music, but I certainly know how to separate him from the music. It's alright for you to not like her music and call it the death of proper music. Fine. But when you start insulting someone you don't know, that's a little odd. I just don't think that's fair. Just look at Freddie. One thing on stage and another in private. We just don't know. Peace, Adam. |
geeksandgeeks 27.01.2004 21:19 |
Please. Britney is no more going to be the death of real music than Al Sharpton will be the death of the Democratic Party. Ask most real musicians what she represents, and they'll laugh. Most of the ones I've seen don't really give two shits about her. No, the bands they care about are atrocities like Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Godsmack, 3 Doors Down, and Godsmack. Those are truly awful bands, and the problem is that people take them seriously. Sure, Britney's little Miss Commerciality, but who cares!? She'll be off the map by my twentieth birthday. |
Brandon 27.01.2004 22:13 |
Actually, Geeks, I told someone at school today my fave band was Queen to which they replied, "Aren't they that gay band that did the Pepsi commercial with Britney" to which someone else replied, "No, Queen are getting back at Pepsi because their lead singer died from eating Pop Rocks and drinking Pepsi at the same time." So I dunno, things can only gt worse from here. |
Saint Jiub 27.01.2004 23:43 |
Brian and Roger have done collaborations and commercials in the previous millenium without much if any fan backlash. However, this current millenium many fans appear to be bitter about such projects. Why is that? Perhaps the general absence in this milenium of new music and previously unreleased archive material appear to have spurred some of this "ill will". Of course, calling commercials evil is outrageous, even by my standards. |
geeksandgeeks 28.01.2004 15:11 |
Brandon, just out of curiosity, where do you live? I'm in Kentucky and nobody's heard of the damn commercial. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 28.01.2004 21:34 |
I predict Britney will become the Vanilla Ice of her generation and end up doing "comeback" tours imitating an 80s Madonna...being the subject of "Behind The Music" and "Jackass III: The Legends"...doing stupid reality shows on TV just to get attention... |
Brandon 28.01.2004 22:09 |
I live in Alabama. You know we get new ideas and movies etc befor anyone else and thus set the cultural trends. Be patient, the commercial will soon air on a TV near you and you and your friends will be discussimng until your heart is content. And beyond that, we have a fella named George down hee who is doing miraculous things with a common peanut that is pretty much gonna revolutionize the world... |
Daburcor? 28.01.2004 22:14 |
"NO ONE is going to remember Queen because their former guitarist and drummer starred in a Pepsi commercial..." Agreed. I remember Queen for their music... And of course Freddie! LOL! |
Adam Baboolal 28.01.2004 23:23 |
"I predict Britney will become the Vanilla Ice of her generation" Uh...didn't Vanilla Ice tank after one year? Barely past his second 'big' single, which was...for the second teenage mutant ninja turtles film!? Ouch, bad comparison! lol Adam. |
Whatinthewhatthe? 29.01.2004 08:27 |
Ice "sampled' Under Pressure for Ice Ice Baby, so I suppose QP still receives royalties for it everytime it's used... He was a one-hit wonder, that's right...remember Debbie (now Deborah) Gibson? She had real talent, wrote her own songs and performed them without exposing any skin or grabbing her crotch. She had a lot of hits in the 80s, then faded away, and now she's on Broadway. I haven't heard any of her songs played in the past ten years, and that may be Britney's fate as well. |
iGSM 29.01.2004 09:22 |
I don't like the wicky-wickyness of the Pepsi 'We Will Rock You'..nor do I like Pink screaming 'We Will Rock You'. I do however like the fact that E.T comes in and saves the day with a ripping rendition of Somebody to Love. |
Bohemian Queen 02.02.2004 07:20 |
i don't like pink she can sing and as for britney she thinks it's gonna make her even bigger cause she sang wid roger and brian i think pink and britney have ruined a great song. |
Adam Baboolal 02.02.2004 09:42 |
"as for britney she thinks it's gonna make her even bigger cause she sang wid roger and brian i think pink and britney have ruined a great song." Uh hu..? Funny...there's no mention of Beyonce ruining the song. Gee, I wonder why... Peace, Adam. |
Mona Lisa 04.02.2004 18:39 |
Christina Agularia says she's a Led Zeppelin fan. Yeah right. Pop stars. *Shakes head* |
geeksandgeeks 06.02.2004 15:50 |
"Christina Agularia says she's a Led Zeppelin fan. Yeah right." Why "yeah right"? Chris Kirkpatrick from *NSYNC is a Sex Pistols fan. People have weird tastes sometimes. And Brandon - the difference with me an you is that, with my age group, nobody knows who Brian and Roger are :) They aren't going to see fit to mention them. It'll just be a bunch of guys drooling over Britney. The commercial ain't going to take any precedence over Bo Rhap and WWRY/WATC. Now, if they were doing a commercial with someone like Saliva, I might have to kill myself. Or them :D |
