"All Dead All Dead"
I think Brian's voice is one of the finest in this song... not the same but sort of like low-range Freddie voice... Brian's voice is always a little too lacklustre for my taste, but this song, I love.
"All dead all dead
But I should not grieve
In time it comes to ev'ryone"
Quite a lyric... (cries)
Brian admitted in a radio interview in '89 (the "In The Studio" thing) that the song was about his cat that died when he was a child. After finding that out, I wonder even more about what the "memories" part.
that is my fav song on the news of the world album and it is such a good love song my mum had it played at her reception for her wedding ahhh well lets hope this song brings her luck 5th time lucky.
---------------
my fav bit is 'but in hope i breath of course i don't belive you're dead and gone all dead and gone.
Brian wrote this song after his cat died. The txt (see sig) is not sung, it's just a sort of intro, to set the tone. I hope that makes sense lol
(edit) "that is my fav song on the news of the world album and it is such a good love song my mum had it played at her reception for her wedding ahhh well lets hope this song brings her luck 5th time lucky."
This song at a wedding?? Are you sure she was happy to get married, I mean, it's such a sad song....
;-)
I always thought of the added text as I did with Sail Away Sweet Sister (To the sister I never had). Just an added bit of melodrama :)
That's sweet about the cat though. Janet Jackson had a song dedicated to a lost cat.. 'Where Are You Now'. Just a useless fact.
I've said it before, but I really like Brian's 'lighter' songs like this. Long Away, '39, Sail Away Sweet Sister... I particularly like his voice singing in a gentler way like this.. it sounds so sweet. I think he sounds very strained when trying to handle the heavier vocals, like when he does something like 'Tie Your Mother Down' live.
This truly is a great number. I agree that Brian's quieter songs are some of his best. In fact I went so far as to make my own compilation cd featuring only Brian compositions. I included all the tracks Brian sings lead on through out all of Queen's career. As well as tracks of his that were ballads w/ Freddie on vocals. A couple of his rockers were thrown in because I felt they are some of his best songs as well. All in all I have 19 tracks on the cd including one solo track.
Tie Your Mother.., Too Much Love, Some Day, Dreamers Ball, Good Co., Who Wants To Live, Sleeping, Long Away, Mother Love, She Makes Me, All Dead, Brighton Rock, Las Palabras, Dear Friends, Leaving Home, Is This The World, White Queen, '39, Sail Away.
I call it "Dreamers Ball" I highly recomend doing this. It plays very well. Anyone else do something like this?
"It's a good song."
Of course it's a good song because it's a Queen song :). IMO every Queen song is good. Btw I prefer the Made in Heaven version of TMLWKY...
I've done the same thing with John's songs MercuryArts. 17 tracks including collaborations with Freddie and the Miracle+ songs which are said to be his.
I should try this with Brian's tracks, sounds like a great idea.
In the song WWTLFE, Brian's voice sounds good, but not great. Maybe is because he sings just before Freddie's voice comes in and I can hear the great difference.
In All dead, All Dead, Brian's voice is beautiful. I think his voice is great for ballads, but just ok for rock.
I never heard any of his late solo works. But I heard that his voice is much better now. I'm particularly interested in getting Back To The Light.
> But I heard that his voice is much better now
Certainly "now" he hasn't got the best voice. In 1997-1998 he did sing very nice. But compare No One But You in Another World Tour with the version he and Roger (falsely called 'Queen') performed at Amsterdam
"In All dead, All Dead, Brian's voice is beautiful. I think his voice is great for ballads, but just ok for rock."
Totally agreed...he has a mellow voice which is perfect for ballads and classic rock but maybe not heavy rock like Freddie could achieve so well.
Take Driven By You....I think he sings SASS much better!!
