This is a question for all fans around the world. Which Queen hits aside from 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'We Will Rock You', and 'We Are The Champions', had the biggest impact in your own countries back when they were released, and which ones still receive a lot of airplay today? Here in the States from instance, most radio stations play most Queen hits from 'Killer Queen' to 'Under Pressure', but it's very rare to hear Queen hits after the 'Hot Space' album. When I used to live in Colombia, about 2 or 3 singles of each album were played on the radio. 'You Don't Fool Me' was perhaps the last big hit Queen had there. |
*the Time Guardian* 18.01.2004 17:37 |
I think they play "A Kind of Magic", "Too Much Love Will Kill You" and "I Want to Break Free" pretty much. I've also heard "The Great Pretender" many times |
Penis - Vagina 18.01.2004 17:46 |
Great topic! Here in Kansas, in addition to those three I still hear: You're My Best Friend Fat Bottomed Girls Bicycle Race Crazy Little Thing (frequently) Play The Game Another One Bites The Dust (frequently) Under Pressure In the years between Under Pressure and the Wayne's World sing-along song, I heard when they were popular: Radio Ga Ga I Want To Break Free (saw the video twice on MTV too!) One Vision A Kind Of Magic I Want It All Innuendo (this was popular here for some reason though 'Headlong' was supposed to be the single, I never heard it) The Show Must Go On (couple times right after Freddie died) And that's it :( |
FriedChicken 18.01.2004 17:55 |
Unusual Queen songs I heard on the radio over here: Seven seas of rhye It's late No one but you Mother Love And the play Somebody to love from the tribute, and invisible man a lot |
Kuku 18.01.2004 19:17 |
In my mother country Love of My Life is listed as one of the top 10 ballads since the song came and for over 30 years.... This is also one song that I knew Queen by, save perhaps BoRhap. People who don't know Queen know LoML. |
[StArMaN] 18.01.2004 20:13 |
Common Queen/solo playlist in France : Radio gaga Kind of magic Great Pretender I want it all Show Must Go On WWRY (a lot, especially in clubs) Another on bites the dust (same as WWRY) |

Sonja 19.01.2004 12:59 |
I don't know, I hardly listen to the radio here in Germany and if I do there's just crap that makes you wanna smash the radio immediately! But I heard "Heaven For Everyone" playing in a store the other day, and "You Don't Fool Me" was playing in another store just a few days later. and in the service station I heard that "Living On My Own" was on the radio (if that counts). And last summer I heard "Bo Rhap" in a shop in Holland. But I saw the video for "A Winter's Tale" on a german music channel just last week!!! And this doesn't happen too often.... |
MexQueenFM 19.01.2004 13:11 |

Queen are loved in Lithuania and radiostations, who play classics, all the time play Queen. I'd say, every radiostation of that kind, plays Queen one or two times per day AT LEAST, so it's possible to hear Queen sound on radio very often :) |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 20.01.2004 09:56 |
In Brazil, recently, these are the most common ones. You could whistle one of them to most people and they'd know it: - Another one bites the dust - Under pressure - Crazy little thing called love - Radio ga ga - One year of love - I want to break free - A kind of magic - Love of my life - How can I go on (Barcelona never plays) - Somebody to love (tribute) - Bohemian Rhapsody - We will rock you - We are the champions - Who wants to live forever - The show must go on In the past, these had their time, too: - Heaven for everyone - You don't fool me - One vision - It's a hardlife - Play the game - Save me - I want it all - Too much love will kill you (Brian's) - Living on my own - I was born to love you (Freddie) - Made in heaven (Freddie) - Bicycle race - Flash - Spread your wings - Don't stop me now These I heard once or twice: - No one but you - Cool cat (this week!!!) - Innuendo - You're my best friend - Love kills Also, in late 1991, I drove the people in the local radio station crazy, untill the left me do my own radio tribute to Freddie. :D I remember that I played these, among others: - Ogre battle (of course, LOL) - I go crazy - Machines - Put out the fire - Love of my life (studio) - Don't stop me now (background to the end of the program) Cheers, Ogre- |

Other popular songs are: Innuendo, I Want To Break Free, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I Want It All, Radio Ga Ga. Two Queen songs are involved in a tv commercial right now: Don't Stop Me Now and It's a Beautiful Day. |

Arnaldo, they really love Queen in Brazil, don't they? I had the impression, too, they're really huge there! But I didn't know they get so much airplay... WOW!!! Brazil rocks! |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 20.01.2004 21:07 |
LOL, Mex, I LOVE this part of your sig: "There are two rules to success in life: 1. Don't tell people everything you know." And Sonja, you're right, they're still big here. Even though, their current fame is "just a shadow of HOW HUGE IT used to be" :) And thanks for the compliments on us rocking :) Germany also hocks, I mean, rocks! :D Cheers, Ogre- |

Post Hot Space still played in the USA that I've heard in the past two years... One Vision, I Want It All, and Headlong. And Driven By You if that counts. Sad. Real fucking sad. It's also a result of the product the band released afterwards (discounting Innuendo and MIH) |
MercuryArts 21.01.2004 11:42 |
Here in Philly I hear them on the radio spairingly. Bo Rhap, WWRY/WATC, YMBF, AOBTD,CLTCL & Pressure get the most airplay. KQ is in there as well. Other songs to air semiregularly, others rarely but have been heard through the years; KYA, TYMD, IL, FBG,BR, Somebody, PTG NYLT, Mustapha, Y & I, Jesus. Anything from, HS, Works, AKOM, Miracle, Innuendo, MIH was only played when it was new. BL hasn't aired since probablly late 1982!! Radio, and IWTBF came and went in 84, OV in Dec. 85. Magic barely made it into Sept. 86 I heard Pain is so... as a single at that time, it was trashed. IWIA was on for a little while. I also heard IM & the title track when it was released. Headlong made the most noise when it came out. It was in heave daily rotation into the spring of 91. ICLWY was in & out fast even though the DJ's loved it. I never heard anything from MIH ever. |
Robin 21.01.2004 11:48 |
Here in the Cleveland area they play Bo Rhap, Somebody to Love, WWRY/Chapmpions and Under Pressure. The "lite rock" stations will play Killer Queen, Another One Bites, UP and Crazy. That's it unless the classic rock station is doing a special album side or some such thing, which often does not include Queen anyway. |
Penis - Vagina 21.01.2004 13:57 |
MercuryArts, Philly sounds like a good place to be. I'd probably faint from astonishment if I heard Mustapha, You & I, or Jesus on the radio. |

Slightly off topic, had a bit of a Queen day today. 'Your my Best Friend' came on radio 2 this morning. 'One vision' apparantly also on radio and my friend informed me that she did a dance to it. A teacher mentioned something about being under pressure and the class sang. Must be something in the water. |

Years ago I was listening to a station that played more songs (also more Queen songs) than nearly any station I've ever heard. They followed a respectable rule playing rare songs rarely. So they played sometimes songs like Need Your Loving, Teo Torriate, Scandal, Back Chat, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Sheer Heart Attack, The World We Created, Sweet Lady, Mustapha, If You Can't Beat Them, also solo songs like Business, Let's Turn It On, etc... And of course the full GH-set. They played pop-rock classics, and when they played a rare Queen song between two other pop-rock classics I always felt, that's where those Queen songs belong to. Nowadays I listen to radio less frequently, but recently I've heard "Princes Of The Universe". A Kind Of Magic, Radio Gaga, I Was Born To Love You are frequently played/requested pop-classics over here and "I Want To Break Free" was maybe the most frequently aired song in the country, at least it surely was 2-3 years ago when it reached top 1-2 at two different major radio-station over here. |
Sebastian 23.01.2004 16:56 |
'Princes' is very famous in Colombia. 'A Kind Of Magic' and 'Flash' too. 'Love Of My Life' also is extremely popular, but interestinly enough everybody I've talked to knows the "piano" version but not the live one, which was the single :) |
iGSM 24.01.2004 07:51 |
Well driving home from Perth today and I turned on the radio...well fuck me dead if 'The Miracle' isn't playing. I was so intoxicated with the Queen playing I punched my hand through a window. Yes, I did a Deaky. *Dramatisation: May not have happened* |
Mr Coolest Cat 24.01.2004 08:00 |
Our local radio station, Mansfield 103.2 FM, play at least 5 Queen songs everyday, and not just hit singles, but the most played ones are You're my best friend and A kind of magic. |
Mrs.Taylor 27.01.2004 16:22 |
Following on from Uglyduckling's post - BBC Radio 2 (particularly at breakfast) staples are:- You're My Best Friend No One But You Crazy Little Thing Called Love I Want to Break Free |
