I am looking for queen-interviews where they talk about John Lennon or mention him. Can anyone help me? I know Freddie was a huge fan, Brian a huge fan and Roger a fan at least.
One of Brian's fav songs is Jealous Guy by John Lennon.
Roger Taylor said somewhere he would have liked to work with John Lennon - it was after 1980 when he said that, and he had already been killed.
Roger asked a question about John Lennon during 'An Audience with Elton John' in 1997.
And then of course Freddie wrote the song...
Lennon is a genius living in every pore...
A debate I've been having with a number of people is whether Lennon is seen as a cult hero purely because he is dead?
Let me explain both Lennon & McCartney individually and collectivly have written many classic songs but its well over 20 years since Lennon was tragically shot. In the last 20 years since Lennons death McCartney has become the Gradaddy of POP almost Cliff's successor. He's been Knighted, headlined Part at the Palace and not really done anything controversial whereas before Lennon died he had just been deported from Japan for carrying coccaine and was seen as a bit of a bad boy.
The point I'm making is if it had been McCartney who had been shot would we be viewing him as some sort of god like cult hero now rather than Lenon in other words "Would he have been so hot if he was not dead?"

I'm not going to comment on that one. That'd be even sadder if Paul had died instead

Rich Tea: No, Lennon wouldn't have the cult-status he has now, if he hadn't been killed, but I highly doubt Paul would be idolized in the same way. Lennon was a very personal artist, and a more intimate one, expressive and a person people identifies to, more then McCartney who makes songs about Fixing a hole and Ob-la-di-ob-la-da.

"more then McCartney who makes songs about Fixing a hole and Ob-la-di-ob-la-da. "
Don't forget Helter Skelter, Band On The Run and Eleanor Rigby... Hey com'on, Paul made kinda cheesy songs, but some of them are true rock anthems: Let It Be, Hey Jude, Martha My Dear, My Love, For No One, etc... Don't disregard him only because a bunch of silly love songs
However I agree that if Paul was dead, he could never reach Lennnon myth status. Lennon's work was more introspective, fragile and sincere than Paul, and that's way many people tend to like Lennon over Paul.
That's exactly my point, spepper.
I was just using some of the most obvious examples, nothing more. Paul had a bigger distance to his fans, and not sharing his heart and soul like Lennon did.
"In 1996 (or 99?) he said that Beatles was the band that inspired him to be a musician"
Big deal... Over the last 40 years, I'm sure about 10 million people have said that same thing. Everyone in or close to the genre (not counting those who are ignorant) in *some* way has been influenced by The Beatles.
Pertaining to if McCartney had been shot...I say I wish John hadn't been killed and George were free of cancer and alive. Both had so much more music left to produce, same with Freddie. I miss all of them. I always wonder what "could have been" had they lived.
