I was just wondering if the original Bicycle Race Poster(you know, the naked ladies) that came with the album would be worth anything? Please be honest. My mom bought it and the album too, off of an old man at a Peddler's mall for like $25 for me, I feel like we were cheating him. It's in very very good condition.
I've been trying to scare my mom by telling her Im going to hang it on my wall (by the way i am a heterosexual female). She doesn't seem to care though.
According to Queen Picture Hall, the UK version with poster is worth $13 and they don't even have a listing for the U.S. version. link
Can't find any going for big bucks on Ebay either. I'm no expert but I'd say it's probably not as rare & pricey as you might think.
Still a neat thing to have though :)
The poster can viewed at my site theczone (link. Go to the Queen section and click on the Queen In Detail link under pictures. Or use the drop down menus. Check out Jazz - the poster is there.
Also check out my new videos by Roger on the Queen On Video section. SOme very interesting videos.
lol I got that poster for $5 at a record shop, I got it w/o the album that it was with (that would have been $9 but I already had the album).
I also embarassed quite a few male friends of mine with that picture in the Jazz booklet.
I picked up the Jazz LP at a garage sale for 25 cents. When I got it home I discovered it had the poster inside!!!
I also have another copy of the album with the mail in slip they later put in the jacket after they pulled the poster.
I'm waiting for the 'oh, I've got the UK, USA, and Japan vinyls and Cds with the little poster. It's my favorite LP' post.
Me, I had it on the wall with a picture of a Playboy bunny sitting on a bike. Then I moved out of my dumpy college apt and left them both on the wall.
Would love a 'then and now' pic of all those gals in the same poses and outfits. Well, then again, maybe not.
Thats what i was telling my mom, that those ladies are probably all old and wrinkly now so why even think about them that way? Kinda like looking in an old cookbook and the pictures of food and you're like "that looks so good". When really that actual dish of food was probably eaten and digested and crapped out and turned into methane gas and could now indirectly be a part of us somehow. ok maybe thats too much thought.
Ooh, I love it when everyone starts talking about my favourite Queen album!
I've got about four vinyl copies (including the picture disc) from different countries plus five different versions on CD (soon to be SIX after the Japanese paper-sleeved version comes out next month!). I was working in the record business when Jazz came out and the US almost banned the album due to the "free pornography" discreetly inserted in the packaging. (I live in the Bible Belt so now you know why!) I thought Queen were being "cheeky" and very daring to do that. (Anyone remember the original cover of Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix? Now THAT was wayyyy ahead of its time!!)
Hendrix was pissed off with that cover!
He never agreed to it. He said the women looked ugly the way they shot it and I have to agree.
But it was indeed ahead of it's time.
They sure were! :-)
The Blind Faith album cover comes to mind too -- the naked pre-pube girl holding an airplane and looking like a female version of Jimmy Page....
